Defining a Relationship

[Maeve]

Maeve grins, "A free pinch? Wherever I want?" Her azure eyes take a good look over him. There is something in her beast that longs for her to attack, take whatever it is she wants. Of course, if she were going to be naughty, she knows exactly the course of action she'd take, but she's being good tonight. She isn't really ready to go further than kisses and maybe mild groping. Slow. She wants slow.


She stands up herself and reaches up her hand to his face, pinching his cheek, "Whoops." She pretends to be surprised by her own action and then she leans over to kiss his cheek where she pinched him. And being that close, so much within the warmth of his grasp, she can't help but get up onto her tip toes and kiss him full on the lips. It isn't fair just how good it feels to do so. Her arms wrap around his neck and she presses herself up flush against him. Before she can get too feisty, however, she pulls back, smiles at him and then rests her head on his shoulder, basking in the warmth of the embrace. This is right.

For a brief moment Conner wonders if Maeve would push things, the predator's paranoia snarling at him to move away out of arm's reach. But he holds his ground, and his trust is rewarded by a single pinch on the cheek. "Ow!" He barks out, more out of reflex than actual pain. "I didn't say you had to use super str...mmmmm..." The first kiss on the cheek distracts him, the second one on his lips prompts a contended murmur into her. And so the dance continues; the press of fabric and warm skin, wondering who will break away first. It's Maeve this time, graciously ending the kiss and giving Conner space to breathe. He reaches around her back and begins stroking Maeve's hair, the rhythm of her stolen heartbeat stirring that dormant protective instinct. He just stands there, letting the head scratches and caresses sooth and stoke without the expectation of anything more. "Thank you, Maeve." He almost says something else, but something stops him. ​Why? Why can't you say the next best thing? Isn't she worth that to you? Maybe...but Maeve wanted to take things slow, so he'd take it slow. Let the gentle firmness of their embrace say what words couldn't just yet.

Maeve takes a few deep breaths, trying to take in all of the senses of this moment. His fingers running through her curly, blue hair, the warmth of the embrace, the scent of him. He thanks her and she gives him a little squeeze, "Right back at you." she says quietly, a little smile on her lips.

And again, she takes in another silent breath. So much has gone wrong since she's gotten to Sacramento and letting herself be vulnerable like this for the sake of cutesy romancy things is a little scary. But, maybe this is just the right kind of scary, the scary that leads to great things if you just ride the wave. Maybe.
