John could feel the power around them, they were in ground zero he could feel at the edges look at the source and try and figure out what happened. Was it a trap, was it planned, he needed more information wanted an answer for all the madness. Even as CW sucker punched who might have been the leader the heavy thud of a hit making him flinch in sympathy. Then Gerrit's works echoed and stretched the pitch shifting as he was sure the Paradise twisted them.

    3 successes

He was hoping enough had gotten out before being incited again, "I don't think that's going to help get them out Gerrit." Maybe it was better to keep the damage contained then spilling it out into the streets but he didn't have time to think about a full analysis on it. His instincts were to try and stop them from trampling each other first. everything else was secondary.

He was honestly shocked the woman hadn't left out onto the streets, wait, did she? Was this person actually her or was she a denizen of Paradise already. He swallowed hard he needed to find out what happened but her horror was shared with him. Real or not she was offering to help and it needed to happen either way. "We have to get him out of here, they'll kill him."

Two of the men look up from their attack at Gerrit's and they seem to see it too. His words bring to life mirage's of the infectious Paradise seeping from the other books. Maybe even the whole store. One goes to the shelves and starts ripping open covers. The other takes a burning tomb from the table and starts spreading the fire abroad in the store.

The third eyes his attacker, unwilling to move past them while being threatened.

The woman in the pencil skirt darts forward and tries to pull the owner up, but in his blindness he struggles and fights back so she can't get a grip.

    Mien:
Leathery scars, bruises and scaly scabs cover the whole hairless body. There is a certain symmetry to the disfigurements, the color of the visible skin ranging from pale pink to purple and dark red. Lately patches of dark blue and black - frostbite - have appeared on his skin and some of the scabs have frozen over and crystalized.
His right hand shows a copper-coloured, wilted and flaky scar, engulfing most of his palm and the inside of his wrist. Next to frostbite and bruised scars it adds a third layer of wounds bore by the Ogre.

    Mantle:
Contrast seem to grow slightly more stark around Gerrit, the crisp clearness of a winter morning. Sometimes the sound of ice forming or breaking can be heard in a short, brisk snap. When using Contracts a subtle, biting cold can be felt around Gerrit - pins and needles prick both the Onyx and those close to him.

    Crown:
Solid, thick panes of clear ice symmetrically arranged around his head with fern frost at the base.

They'll burn down the whole place..

At least he bought some time for them to get out, get away from that ink that tried to drag them back. But hadn't he just put a copy of the book into his backpack? That was like carrying his Keeper around, just inviting him to take him back whenever. I have to. We have to close the way. "And it's away from the others." Gerrit mumbled as he worked his way through the chaos, towards the owner
You did this, shit for brains. You just had to whip out your fairy magic and make things worse.
trying not to look at the people he passed or shoved out of the way. If his father was among them he wouldn't want to run into him. Because he was an extension of It, the Ogre was sure of that by now.

    Useless.

    You're useless.

But he couldn't. His mind always went back to the book like a tongue repeatedly poking an aching tooth: what if it was just waiting for the right opportunity to take him back?

    Colonel Worm

    Mask
Worm is tall, whip thin, and corded with muscle. He's got more than a few scars. His eyes are blue and wild. His dirty blond hair is often greasy and worn short in the front, longer in the back—what some may call a mullet. There's always a mischievous smile on his lips. His wardrobe is extensive and totally crazy, filled with second-hand costumery and bizarre outfits scavenged from thrift-bins. The clothes reflect his attitude: Colonel Worm loves to make a scene and leave a lasting impression, for better or worse.

    Mien
Worm's mien is quintessential Goblin: he is taller, thinner, and more scarred. His skin is a bright red and his eyes a glaucous white (with no discernible pupils). What little hair he has is also white. His ears and nose are pointed and his hands and feet are approximately doubled in size. His muscles stand out like lengths of rope beneath his skin.

The sharpened blade of battle awareness fades as his opponents seem too busy destroying property to fight back.

Worm feels the words starting to bubble up again. The words, the Black, the Green, the Red, the terror.

    No. Have to keep moving.

The dude he'd hit is just kind of standing there. So the Colonel brushes right by him without a second look.

Where the lady and Gerrit have failed, maybe the Goblin will succeed.

He bends over and grabs the shop owner roughly, trying to haul him up.

    Lift, 4 successes

Got get him and get out. Got to get away. Figure out what's going on. How to stop it. How to stop the Black. And the Colors.

The man holds up his hands defensively as if expecting another attack. Instead Worm just rushes past.

Worm bodily lifts the struggling owner all by himself, pulling him away from the table of burning books. The hood falls away, revealing his face and blind eyes shining sight less in the redish glow of the flame and the moon.

Meanwhile the lantern bearer sees Gerrit grab a copy and he practically snarls like a rabid wolf.

"It must burn," he implores with fanatic belief.

He swings the lantern at the Stonebones, spilling oil in an attempt to set the Orge and escaping piece of Paradise on fire. However, the small flame doesn't catch.

Moon. The Contract of Lunacy, it made sense. It gave him a touchstone, a cornerstone to build his foundation. Deep shaking breaths, he just had to tell himself he'd lost temporary control of his faculties. He clung to that stone like a buoy as Gerrit and Worm pushed into the thick of it. He finally got a hold of himself when he saw the goblin lift the Owner up and John turned to the girl. "Take him, go!" He didn't know if there was a back entrance but the Owner could guide her hopefully. They had to run far from the source of Paradise as possible, run, run before they were swallowed whole.

His jaw set and a breath escaped as he gripped tighter, the words repeating in his head. He had to focus but thankfully he was trained for that, focus on the trails of the contract and see if he can't find the source. Was it someone or something? Was it curse or sabotage?

John's still looking around making sure he didn't miss/can't find the source. Let me know if you want a roll and what pool you'd like.

The shelves and the table are well on fire now. Liquid smoke spilling and pooling on the ceiling, making it into an infinitely black, starless, roiling sky almost purplish in the light of the flames. Smoke from the book. More Paradise to fall up in to. Sparks fall onto the floor that is covered in loose sheaves of paper whose words flicker and shift. Small bits begin to smolder where the embers fall, blackening the page like a spilled inkwell.

Most of the crowd that was tearing apart the books, finally leaves off to escape into the safety of the street.

Only the four violent ones remain. Two at the shelves, two at the table.

One of the men at the shelves and the man with his arms up both start coughing as they breath in the smoke. The other man at the shelves continues in his quest to set the store alight.

The Owner struggles against whatever his imagination thinks he is being gripped by as he screams himself hoarse.

The woman nods at John's words and then tries to assist Worm in dragging the owner out, though her lent strength doesn't do much in her panic.

    failure

Dreadlocks will assist Colonel Worm on his turn (though no bonus dice) and move with him (if he decides to move).

John can make a Wits+Comp to try and spot a source.

From this point on, Stam+Res must be rolled for smoke inhalation. Success can act as normal. Failure means the only action you can take is to move.

Something rushed by Gerrit and for one terrible moment he was sure that this something was his FatherKeeper, grown impatient and not willing to wait for the ink to get the job done. Startled he took a step back, only to be attacked by the man holding the lantern.
What's the matter? Fuck that loser up, teach him a lesson!

Gerrit breathed in to object, to deescalate the situation (although the lantern bearer was certainly right!) - but by doing so he just inhaled a lungful of smoke. Panic and the overwhelming sensations made him forget his training and for the moment he could only wheeze and cough as the ever-present taste of blood mixed with the burning books. He slowly dragged himself a bit away from the man trying to burn him, but not too far to leave the others behind.

That's a good way to be ditched by them and end up dead.

Why wasn't his father impeded by the smoke? Why was he still able to clearly mock him over all the commotion?
Of course: because he really was an agent of It.

    Breath, 1 success

Smoke is filling the room. Flames. Shapes flicker about him and breathing burns, hurts.

Worm has been here before. He's seen the fire destroy homes, occupants, their possessions.

He's heard the wailing of the villagers fleeing before his unit as they emerge from the jungle. The Green.

And from the Green into the Red. All folded up in the black, ready to come out again. To grab him. Take him back.

The Goblin suppresses a fit of laughter. Or a scream? It's not clear to Worm.

But he's got a task. He's got a mission. He has to fulfill it.

He calls on his agreement with Stone, specifically the clause of Grandiose Might. To provide him the added strength necessary to physically carry the shop owner out to safety.

    Stone 3, 1 success

Feels his body infused with added power. Attempts to haul the owner up and escort him, bodily, out of the flames.

    Lift, failure

But he hasn't properly set his footing and things don't work out. No choice but to try again.

    Lift, Subsequent attempt, 3 successes

Finally, he's able to haul the man along, the woman trailing after.

To the shopkeeper now, yelling over the chaos: "Is there another way out of here?"

Rolled a subsequent attempt to lift Mr. Manager (with the -1 penalty per WoD core pg. 129). However, if this isn't appropriate, please feel free to disregard or remove the second attempt from the post.
