Something foul burns Bird's nose. The smells of death and disease, his tongue is coated with the taste. Something died, and recently.

As Bird moves down the tunnel, following its gentle curves upward and inward the sound of shuffling, disjointed and shambling gets louder. And faster! Moving away from the approaching Bird.

[Bird]

The smell of death is everywhere. More disconcerting: the taste of disease. He's heading in the right direction. For better or worse.

The sound of flight up ahead confirms his suspicions. But also inspires caution. Bird's not about to walk into a trap. He does not increase his own speed. Simply follows the trail at a reasonable pace.

Again, he tries to look across the Gauntlet to check for signs of Rat activity. Again, he fails. Only the set of his tail speaks to his self-disgust.

[Bleeds Well]

No sign of a trap, instead his instincts give him clear insight into the current situation. Prey is making a made dash for escape. As he closes in on his quarry Bird makes out a distinct thud, and then a deafening silence. The only sound that remains is Bird's own heartbeat and breathing.

A resounding thump and then all is quiet.

Fa-ninna's prey has either been silenced with a single blow. Or, more likely, it has escaped through some door or hatch.

Bird advances in the darkness, nose to filthy ground, searching for the rat's escape route.

Bird follows his nose. The tunnel gets darker until the lack of light becomes a gravity blanket pressing down from all sides.

The stench of death and disease continues to grow stronger. Bird's nose bumps something soft and sticky.

His eyes opened to the darkness thanks to the gift of Night Sight, Bird sees the corpse before he reaches it.

Enhanced vision confirms what his wolf-nose has already told him: death. Rot.

There's a gaping hole in the corpse's chest that Bird sniffs at. Visually, he examines the wound with what little medical knowledge he has.

Was it made by a blade? A gun shot? Something...else?

Bird studies the gaping wound in the darkness. It's obvious that nothing entered the chest here, rather something came out. The edges of the wound are jagged tears, unclean, uneven.

It's an exit wound. With no entrance. A rat? Could be. A former host now left to rot, the vermin fled elsewhere.

But if that's the case, where's the Beshilu that once called this corpse home?

Bird sniffs at the oozing hole and then immediately around the body. Looking to pick up the scent of his prey again.

Bird sniffs and finds the trail with is. The trail leads back deeper into the unlit storm drains of the city. But something is the air catches his attention. A smell or the way the air moves... it's not easy to place. But something is definitely off. (occult roll to determine the source of unease)

Somewhere outside, a distance from the camp, Bleeds Well waits. And watches as a crowd forms around the storm drain exit.

A shadow in the darkness, the wolf freezes when something...changes. The scent of his prey is still in his nose, but something isn't right. What could it be...
