The Funderland changing room smells perpetually of sweat. Management had come up with a solution once, long ago, to add lavender oil mist. First day on the job Frances had such a bad allergic reaction that a photo of her bright red face with its hives now graces the exit into the park. It had stayed for years, as Frances Rodrigeuz rose through the Funderland security team, eventually making head of night security. Every employee has a Frances story, from the time she helped unlock a bike lock with a pen for Management to the time she covered for the janitor after a birthday party so he could take care of his sick son. Frances was good people, and good hearted about it. She took jokes about her husky frame 'it's called obese honey' with a laugh, and a smile, and a backhanded compliment back that made you feel appreciated and cared for.
No one knows exactly when it happened. Many still deny that anything has "happened." Some say it was when she shifted back to day shift for the new year. Others dismiss it as coincidence, that it started when she took down the picture of her allergic reaction. Whenever it happened, everyone in security has now noticed.
Something is wrong with Frances.
She hasn't cracked a joke in weeks. She is constantly watching, constantly patrolling. She's caught more gate jumpers in January than in all of the summer of 2020. Management is thrilled that she's being efficient, but she's slowly cutting herself off. Worse, those who know her best are the night shift, and she has been avoiding them too.
Even worse is that the ones who had been helped by her are just...letting go. Giving her space. The more they reach out, the more she pushes away, and for many, they just don't try that hard.
Some aren't done though. Some have heard about this, and are doing something.
You are one of them.
