Kaze smiles as he feels Aurora's powerful spell overwhelm his own Life Shield; It's definitely a rush, like he remembers Phoenyx saying once recently.

He consciously clears his head, lets his senses come to the forefront of his focus, not drawing conclusions as to what he's seeing and hearing and feeling, but letting himself be wide open to it all, for any indication.

Anima casts his spell. The Imago in his mind is given voice. Threads of mana spiral, punch through the Gauntlet to the Shadow Realm. He feels rather than sees or hears the Entity stiffen and freeze in place. The effort is immense, testing his limits.

But his spell holds!

Phoenyx and Guru climb up into the attic unmolested.

The attic is shaped like a rough prism, framed by the roof. It is an ugly space that should have been used for storage but which had been converted - poorly - into a third bedroom and it shows. The bedroom suit is a crude mismatch of cheap furniture and an older style bed with a metal frame. The bedding is a mess and there is a decaying husk laying on it. Thick webs criss-cross the space and there are irregular sacs stuck to the walls and hanging - in oily, supple, suspension - from the ceiling.

The floor has been torn up. Chewed in some places and transformed into large, paper-like, nesting material.

Across from them, there is a hole in the wall that punches through to the outside world.

The air is cool but thick, almost aqueous in nature, and thick with silken particulates.

Nothing moves...

Till it does...

Shadows move and seemingly part as a human sized spider with a hideously human head simply dances into view and snaps at the Arrow. Phoenyx moves too slowly as the monstrosity lands a perfectly aimed and timed bite. After that the Mighty only feels fire!

Neither Guru or Phoenyx detected the spider-creature as it lay in wait.

The creature detected Phoenyx but completely missed Guru.

The creature got a surprise attack on Phoenyx. In addition to the thumping damage, Xadun can you roll for Phoenyx's Stamina + Gnosis to resist Toxic Bite

Guru will get a surprise attack on the creature!

Then we can switch to actual combat rounds for convenience.

It wasn't there until it was, fangs sinking into Phoenyx likely pumping some sort of paralytic into her so she couldn't move. He still had the Healing Pill in case of emergencies, thank god he had come prepared.


His heart beat in this chest, adrenaline surging into his brain causing time to slow as his pupils dilated taking in the scene rapidly. One breath in, shotgun snapping into position as his hips pivoted barrel swinging to keep Phoenyx out of the line of fire. Exhale. Fire. Thankfully Phoenyx had muffled the sound outside the house but those below could hear the clear report of the shotgun, a deafening thunder that was unmistakable. The shell ejected as his shot struck true.

There is only a winded gasp from Arrow as Phoenyx is jumped, followed by a sharp gasp as she feels the poison coursing through her before gritting her teeth.

She heard the shot before the word. But she wanted to get up there. Was someone hurt? Was Phoneyx or Guru injured?! She was working blind down here! She could toss a heal, but needed to know who needed it.

[Kaze]

Kaze hears movement, then the shot. Guru shooting not Phoenyx. That's not good, Phoenyx is fast and has the place soundproofed for shooting, and would be shooting if she could. He calms himself, his Body Control helping with the autonomic responses, his hands do not shake with adrenaline. He glances at Naga instead of up uselessly at the ceiling, checking Naga's expression, since she's possibly seeing what's happening up there. Everything seems to slow down and he experiences the familiar sensation of entering combat, preparing to adapt to what the enemy and his uncoordinated allies might do. He lets his mind register the panicky thought that Phoenyx might need him, might already be taken down and acknowledges the possibility while focusing on what's concreate, what he hears and sees and what he is going to do about it.

Total initiative is 9.
Die roll was 1; Dex is 6 from Honing the Form; Body Control enhanced reflexes add 2.

"Madison, your call." Kaze says, anticipating a rush to the bottleneck of the small opening in the ceiling, or people shooting at it while others are running into the same space.
