Genuine surprise, right here. Is that uncommon knowledge? Sure, okay, it was probably in a book being read for the sole purpose of picking out themes for magic trucks, but. It's not like it would have been in Vanity Fair.
"Uh. You're not one of those people that only reads Instagram, are you?"
He follows... barely. What gives, yo? Things getting sticky or just trouble concentrating? Because getting stuck here? Yikes.

They move... at slightly faster than a walk.
Briar Rose bounds through the space.
Star flows, occasionally coming to rest and having to push off with a foot.
The Escher structure spirals around them, each stairway leading to a landing or a platform. On each landing / platform there are two portal doorways. Gothic statuary and baroque balustrades add to the impression of age.
On the first landing they find two inactive portals - dark, blasted, ruined.
On the second landing they find two active portals. Carved blocks using Atlantean script indicate where the portal's lead, as the portals themselves give no clue: beyond the portal frame is a yellow glow and an oily membrane, not unlike the surface of a bubble stretched taunt.
The right portal declares: TOMB OF EXARCH.
The left portal declares: CITY OF CITIES.

If the portals represented Obelisks, were the blasted ones destroyed?
Clearly the prudent course of action is to cop a squat and study these things. Peep the supernal goggles and see what made them tick. Maybe get some deets from the res about their origins -- or intended purpose. Better yet? Do all of them, like a carefully drawn map at the beginning of a hedge maze.
