Rooftop (Not Quite) Routine

[Briar Rose]

"Art nerd too~" she adds with a laugh, "And in that vien," she said, face serious. "Everything can be art." Briar Rose says trying to hold on the serious cast to her face, but with her head held high, her smile easily becomes real.

Though she can't help but ask, "Anata wa Nihongo o wakarimasu ka?" wondering if he'd noticed the kanji on her jacket.

"I have a knife. And I do as Jon Snow says about the pointy end, but that's about it. For when I can't, y'know." she claws her hand again. "I'm down, It's been a while since I really stretched. So, might be a bit. Eh." her clawed hand goes all so-so.

She wonders if Kaze will get a gentle smack on the write from Tyche it was a awkwardly phrased, but well.

"Less myself and more other things."" she answers in kind, wondering what they'd make of it.

As Briar Rose and the others spoke of meetings, Tyche offered little. She wasn't there to really comment on the goings on and chose only to listen.

Then she and Kaze spoke about teachings and, though the words were masked, they could only relay so much without edging too close to a breach.

"Oooookay," she said as she rose, dusting the dirt and grime haphazardly off her ass, "Let's save the talk about what we can teach each other for the right place, yeah? I'm all for having fun, but, if you all want to talk about, uh... work, do it at work. And no. Awkward phrasing don't make it better."

Then a finger gun to Kaze.

"Especially you, big guy," she says, "Use that big, sexy brain of yours, m'kay? 'Cause that can really be my only warning."

It was known Kaze was already on his way to judgement. Seemed the lovable Apostate needed a reminder that he was on ice until the deed was done. He couldn't afford it getting thinner, but she'd cut him a little slack. This time. Unless he decided to act out.

"And to answer your question," she says, trying to offer some levity in the wake of her having to put on her Guardian pants, "I've been called a basic bitch."

To find harmony with the world around you one must understand it. It was a philosophy." Didn't he listen when they used to talk? Surely she's mentioned her mentor before.

Then Tyche interjects. The Arrow stares at Kaze, clearly thinking this is all his fault. But then she bristles obviously, with a step towards Kaze, then a pause and one away.

Sexy? What does she mean by that? Not that it... matters. I don't care.

Then confusion. "Basic bitch? What for?"

Kaze smiles at Rose's self identification as an art nerd, "That's neat. It's on my list to...'let go' and lighten up; get better at expressing myself with the stuff that I always just focused on using practically, you know? If I were going to branch out from being a jock, I think I'd be into dance."


He nods, "I speak and read a little Japanese." He adds in Japanese, "Watashi no rikai wa hinjakudesu. Haha kara mananda. Okinawa de benkyō suru tame ni benkyō shimashita."


He looks a little confused at the last comment, but also frowns, as if realizing on some level that Rose's vague comment is a standard of observing secrecy that he has been falling short of meeting in comparison.


Kaze smiles, happy at Tyche's interest in a self defense class by Phoenyx. Then he looks crestfallen when she calls him on his 'loose lips'! "Oh. Man. I didn't even think. Man. He's right. I totally should take a vow of silence." He says, looking depressed.


He looks up and manages a wan smile, "No. You're nice. Thanks. I've had a lot worse, and...I still have a lot of bad habits I have to change."

Kaze has the language merit for Japanese. He is speaking the dialect of the southern island, Okinawa. Does Rose have a regional accent?

"What? All starbucks and bubble gum?" she asks with an arched brow. Her own mind flying back to that horrible place, high school. Those roving, hungry hyenas, popular girls, and she always a new girl, arty nerd.

"Wait, you know all those styles? Like I know the famous stuff from TV, looks awesome, but I can't do it." offering a grin at Phoenyx.

And her smile stays as she nods along with Kaze, "Sugoi! Nihon ni itta koto ga nai. Ikitai. Demo..." she shrugs, "Hikōki o kau yoyū ga nakatta."

"Could always replace your bad habits with other bad habits." she says, and takes another swig, "But you should do dance, it's an art form yeah, but it's also a work out. Works different muscles then other workouts."

Sadly no, Briar Rose speaks like someone who's learned in an American class room.

Pheonyx was adorable when it came to Kaze, but Tyche refrained from smirking. Again.

At the Arrow's question, Tyche gave a half-shrug.

"Something about lattes and leggings?" she ventured, "I dunno. I wasn't really paying attention. I prefer cold-brew anyway, but the occasional vanilla soy latte does the brain good."

Then a full shrug to Kaze as he mumbles around all depressed like.

"Don't worry about it, you were close to the line. You didn't cross it," she said, "Think of this a penny for your thoughts."

Then a snort. That joke never got old. Ever.

"Thanks, bub," she said as Kaze offers his compliment, "Though, to be fair, you haven't seen me have to really work."

"God no," she offers Rose, "but I'm probably more like them than I'd like to admit? Drew the line at buying a beetle though."

The Japanese is ignored. They weren't showing signs of being secretive and she doubted Kaze would be bold enough to try and talk about Mage stuff in another language. She also had a feeling Rose would check him if that was the case. So far she was being the most careful of the three.

Which is interesting.

There was a chuckle at the dance comment though. Something about seeing Kaze in a leotard seemed hilarious.

Her admonishment done, Phoenyx looks from Kaze to the others, looking a little disgruntled.

I wonder how hard THAT vow would be to stick to...

She shakes her head at Rose's question. "Most arts incorporate some of the movements into their style, and some give names to the techniques from the animals they are taken from. I have a few techniques I specialise in. When I do the class I can show you, if you like."

Seeing the way Tyche was with Kaze was making all these... feelings happen again. Like when she wanted to be with Kaze the first time. But then he lied, and kept changing. He was becoming who he wanted to be, but that... that was someone that wouldn't be the person she wanted. It wasn't fair. But it wouldn't be fair, a small part of her brain reminded her, so stop him being who he was for her sake.

Kaze nods sympathetically to Briar Rose, "Zan'nen'na."


Then he seems to realize that he's been speaking in a language that the others might not understand, rudely leaving them out of the conversation.

"Sorry," He says looking at Tyche and Phoenyx. "I was just saying, I learned Japanese from my Mom. Her dad, my grandfather was from Okinawa, which is one of the Japan islands, sort of. I mean, the Okinawans tend to think they're kind of their own thing." He shakes his head ruefully, "Anyway I lived there for a while to get better. I'm still not great." He confesses.


He looks at Briar Rose. "If you want to go, you totally should; I'd love to help...with a ticket I mean. I've heard a tour group is the best way to go for the first time." He says. "I only went to Okinawa, and really didn't see the kind of stuff you might think of when you think about Japan."


Kaze laughs out loud at her--apparently?--tongue in cheek suggestion! "Like, replace talking too much with...being all grumpy and giving everyone the cold shoulder all the time? Or take up smoking, so my mouth is too full to talk, and no one wants to come near me anyway?" He chuckles.


He pauses at her encouragement about dance. "Actually, no. I mean, you know how Jackie Chan learned all his moves training in the Chinese Opera? I guess I'd do something like that, take the Kung Fu I know and learn how to do it for show, like in action movies. That'd be fun, I think. I remember hearing one of the 'John Wick' guys saying that action scenes can tell stories just as much as the acting, speaking in movies, if the same level of effort is put into them."

Kaze would definitely be interested in Kanji character(s) on Briar Rose, is there a description somewhere? I missed it!

Kaze smiles, "He can be taught, huh?" He says like he's quoting something. "I hope so, Penny. I am really trying, which is kind of embarrassing to admit."


He notices Phoenyx seeming disgruntled, but doesn't have a clue why. He watches her a moment and then smiles at her without saying anything, possibly a little wistfulness in the expression.

"That would be interesting, I'd love to see you move, but I'd have to be careful to make sure that a self defence class didn't turn into figure drawing." says the artist with a snort, "Not gonna lie, I would like to watch you move for some anatomy studies."

Briar Rose gives a small shrug, paired with a smile and says "Shouganai."

Nodding along with Kaze's story, "You're good, and it's nice to know I can keep in practice easily enough." She smiles, "I'll figure it out. I'd want to handle the touristy things, and the cool places and sights the locals know. I sorta, kinda know someone up in Fukuoka, so if I ever go, I might be able to work something out there."

"Hmm, movement, dance, expression. Checks out," comes a tease.

"Good to know," she nods at the Guardian, though she does remember, that 'at the Guardian' part.

"You'll get it, and just get some Mad-Eye Moody in your thoughts, and this stuff gets a bit easier."

Tyche tilted her head at the disgruntled Arrow.

"You doing okay?" she asked. Pheonyx had appreciated directness before, would she do so again when she was the subject?

She looked at Kaze.

"Neat. Can't relate though," she offers, "My parents were American as far as I know, but, uh... that's all I could tell ya."

Pointing a thumb at herself she mouths the words 'Foster kid' before a little eyebrow wiggle to signal she wasn't, like, uptight about it or anything.

Before she can toss out an action star joke though, Sacramento's newest Guardian catches that wistful expression. Then she can't help but glance back Pheonyx.

Talk about tension.

And baaaack to Kaze.

Can you two just make out already?

Would it help them in the long run? No. Probably not, but, hey, who knows? It'd make this a Lot. Less. Awkward. Then again... nah. That'd mean Rose and her were third-wheeling super hard.

Then a laugh as Briar Rose adds some much needed levity while Tyche's ass once more finds purchase on the dirty roof.

"Constant Vigilance!" Tyche proclaims as she points to the sky, bringing the little Potter reference to a more satisfying close. For her anyway.
