Anima attempting to be unanimated as possible, quietly walks up to Papilio leaning in close he whispers
"Hey Papi, we have business to continue later. Mirror on the wall and all."
He smiles and chuckles slightly at his own joke, before nodding to Winter.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Prime Movers number the most in number and seniority, is it safe to assume your path has a nominee in mind?"
Okay, seems everyone's back to their corners of the room and there's no hard feelings. Shodan looks relieved and happy at the same time, content to see a score or so mages, livening up the halls of the Circle. Blessed be Rose's pink hair and Star's quesadillas, for they all bring life and, well... color to the imposing space.
It feels almost like home now.
Winter will note that Shodan focuses mostly on the Hierarch (although it's not like the mage attempts to hide it). He studies the Moros curiously.
"Isn't a Herald the person who makes official business known to cabals within Consilium and who we send to negotiate with those outside of it?" Seemingly a non sequitur, but you just wait for a couple of seconds "I can't help but notice that there are no cabals right now. And it's not like relations with our neighbors need maintaining" Hierarchy foster the Lie. Although a Herald will be appointed, most likely - mages do so love power, or the appearance of it - if Shodan can make them think on why they need one instead of just accepting it as an axiom, everyone wins, right?
Briar Rose stifles a snort. It might have taken her a second or more, wild eyes search and snared by the other bodies present, but she'd been looking and then, everyone's all, have you seen Morgan, had these guys been doing a Barney's Have you met Ted compilation on youtube recently? And trying it on Feathers? Or on her? Did either of them seem that desperate?
"Nooooo, I haven't seen a Morgan in Sacramento. Nope." she bites her lips, eyes dancing as she watches Arnie duck down and plant her feet in. Resolute in her avoidance. Briar is totally gonna have to change out the corvid feathers on Arnie's pressy for ostrich ones. Maybe lightly dust it all with sand. Locally sourced, right from the river bed.
A beat, watching Arnie, watching the rest, listening to people, "Soooo, has the Shaman already been picked ?" she asks, hearing them context clues, "Since I think I have to be directed to them for the whole, hey I'm looking for the moving here and have actually already done that, part of the newbie intro package. Or, is me just being here good enough?" she asks.
Campanella watched the gathering as... he was ignored. Fair enough, sometimes it was enough for the Awakened simply to gather and converse. To act as a community instead of working on their individual pursuits. The Awakened of Sacramento had been squeezed for so long: pressured by conflict and circumstance; perhaps it was better to simply let them talk for once...
Shodan brings up a point. Campanella turns to him.
"In many Consilia that is so. You'll find that the Charter of our Consilium here recognises both Cabals and individual mages. It had to - as you have seen for yourself our changing population makes holding together a group very hard. A Herald would help getting news and information out when, or if, it becomes important."
And then he paused.
"A Herald would also be a point of contact for new mages as they arrive. A Herald would also vet those new arrivals and ensure they get connected with their Path and their Order. Questions I am sure Briar, over there, would have liked answered before she set foot in the Circle."
Campanella added the last with a quiet smile and a nod in Briar Rose direction. He turned his attention to her:
"I am given to understand magus Anima has claimed that position. Speak with him if you are on the Path of Ecstasy; also seek out Aurora, she is on the same Path."
Turning back to Shodan his smile grew more serious.
"Having a Herald will help bring some order back to our fellowship and help any new arrivals settle more easily. As for our neighbours - that is what I'm worried about. Our Consilium does not have a particularly good relationship with the Golden Consilium of San Francisco Bay; at least one of my predecessors was a plant from that Consilium and I have no idea how things stand now... now that hostilities with the Seers seems to have calmed down."

All the words. People from here, places are there, heralds do stuff, and bad things are out there. Yeah, all the typical Concilium business.
"And the Mastigos?" Eyes watched those assembled for the piece of information most relevant to him. "Who represents my folks on this new council?"
So far it sounded like it was just him, and lone wolves were not his thing by any stretch of the imagination. One would not be far off to say he was averse to the idea of being or even interacting with one. Ever.
As she listens to flow of conversation, some important, some not so much, her eyes widen slightly.
Was that Star?! Talk about a face she never thought she’d see again. But as he seems content to eat his food and be quiet, she simply offers a smile and nod.
Wait, appoint a Herald? It made sense; it could help Campy. Though their numbers were still small.
“Doesn’t appear top heavy to me, I helped rewrite the Lex some time ago.” So she was all for structure.
Blue eyes look to Winter as he speaks, “Do we know who’s stepping up?” were there names in a hat already?
Glancing to Shodan, “Glad to know you what the position entails. No Cabals doesn’t mean a Herald is not needed, Cabals form all the time. And last I was here, our neighbors were not the friendliest, so having someone with a good head on their shoulders and able to help maintain any civility with them is great.” She points out.
As Campy mentioned her being a Shaman, she offers a little wave to Briar Rose.
“If there are questions on the Lex and Cabals, I can help clear it up if needed. I know it can be a lot to read and understand.” Offers the Shaman.
In short, they need a new janitor. The Hierarch has taken it on himself to disperse the news in a somewhat edulcorated fashion, respectability and all, making things look a bit more sophisticated than their essence.
But things were what they were, and in a Consilium like Sacramento, official positions were nothing more than a burden.
"I'll put my name forward", is his brief reply to Aurora's question. "Some Paths shouldn't have more than a member, I reckon. In that case, they get a seat by default", he shrugs.
See, Shodan?
What you need a Herald for is... this. Explaining who is who. What is what. Why water is wet and... wait, no.
What you really need a Herald for is to tell everyone to shut the heck up about the whole Councilor deal until the next official meeting. Since. You know. Path meetings. And harshing the questionable buzz of this leisurely socializing. But, hey.
Chaos is a ladder.
Aurora gets his best deer-in-headlights impression, hand frozen in mid lift, and mid-chew. She's still hot enough that her attention is like a spotlight, and he's the cockroach looking for somewhere to skitter with the lights turned on. He traded her a smile and nod, feeling a degree of relief that's all that was expected.
Also?
What the heck was a 'Prime Mover'? Had Amazon gotten into personal relocation business?
Phoenyx watches the myriad of conversations unfold. New members finding paths and places. Older ones holding to business. It was starting to feel more than a little overcrowded to her. She didn't envy the person being a Herald. Sounded too much like keeping track of everyone to her.... And that would mean chatting to everyone about nothing. Or perhaps something.
The talk of cabals send another ache through her chest, though the Arrow's face remained stoic. The Aegis had only lasted a few months before breaking in drips and drabs - first Weavebreaker, then Alastor, then Kaze. She sighed lightly.
Winter said something that catches her ear. "Except for the Acanthus, it seems that every path has at least two members at this time," She offers to the Sentinel. The "until some people move on" was left for extrapolation - it seemed inevitable around here. "Though we will have to convene and arrange the representative of the Mighty."
Campanella turns to Pixel and then looks over to where Anima and Papilio have gathered. He raises an eyebrow as strands of their conversation drift across the room. He turns back to the new Mastigos.
"Papilio is on your Path, though I don't know if he has expressed a wish to be a Councillor. Speak with him."
He turned his attention to the rest of the group, especially Winter Star Phoenyx and left Pixel with his options open.
"Then it appears I misspoke and got ahead of myself. Hubris affects us all," he added with a sigh.
"The next meeting shall be much more Official."
