Have you ever heard of dog owners who come to resemble their pets? Shodan is like that, but with computers. Like a computer, he cannot ignore a piece of data that is clearly there - instead, he'll obsessively analyze it from every angle until he gets it right. Meaning he lags behind. Stalls, even. Missing out on the pleasant distractions of lights, colors and textures.

And then, finally, slipping in his grasp there it is - no random background noise but a code... probably. And Phoenyx's voice in the distance? Unsettling, yeah. Whatever is causing the communication distortions in this place clearly knows what it's doing.

When they reach the VIP area proper, Shodan will seek out a table in a corner. Bonus points if it's a vantage point with visible entrances or exits. The Libertine might be no soldier, but he's seen enough action movies to gain some rudimentary knowledge of tactics.

It was sorely tempting just to light the whole fucking thing on fire.

Don't want to assume I'm just out home and dry, but Phoenyx is running at this point.

Phoenyx has Life Armour at 2, so 1Armour+1Defence +Higher of Wits&Dex is 4 so 6 dice removed leaves 3 Lethal. Ouch.

Kaze twists in the air, if this even really is air, trying to land in the least damaging way! He finds it challenging with not knowing what is real and what isn't, but the impact certainly feels very real!

    2019-11-02 14:36:27 Kaze rolls 9 to mitigate bashing falling damage (Dex 5 + Athletics 2 + Life Armor 2) (10 Again) 10, 7, 6, 5, 1, 7, 9, 1, 9, 3 3 successes

Does he actually apply any defenses or just roll them in the pool? He also has 1 point of Kung Fu armor vs bashing damage, and has his padded leather jacket for 1 armor vs bashing to add to the 2 armor for the Life Mage Armor, so if he is subtracting armor straight off the top, that would be -4?

No, by RAW (nwod core book, page 179), fall damage is automatic, dex + ath is rolled and successes are substracted. I could allow mage armor and kungfu to substract from the pool. In this case, Kaze still ends taking 6 bashing (12 base - (3 rolled + 2 from life armor + 1 from kung fu))
A jacket wouldn't sensibly protecting from a fall, indeed, if I were strictly adhering to the rules, the fall would be lengthier than 30 yards, by RAW I'd have to consider the damage lethal (which I'm not going to do, though)

    Shodan:
The Enigma takes your mind elsewhere, to a place where you can barely pay any attention to your surroundings. It is a code, that much is certain. As it stands, brute-forcing it seems unrealistic.
D̶̯̫̜̗̥̲̩̻̄ͧ͘ò̹̗̩̘̼̰̺͒̌̓ņ̴̻̙̟͔ͮ̂ͯ'̢̣̝̰̮̮̲̹̜̘̆t͗ͣ ̧̛͕̹͈̳̠̩ Dude, are you listening to me? You're spacing out", you hear the echo of your companion's voice, but he's nowhere to be found.
    ̤̞̖̥̣̊̚͘͢
And then you snap back to the the hallway; where the corridor gets larger, a small lobby has been carved from the available space. Red Lights dangle from the ceiling, their suffused shine lends the room an intimate atmosphere. Here and there, a few velvet chairs lean against the walls.
Half emptied bottles of alcohol and burning candles lie atop the small tables, radiating their fragrance into the room. A feminine laughter reaches you, catching you by surprise. But when you turn around, you're alone.

Kaze: You don't know how lengthy was the fall. Every muscle in your body aches, and you're sure you must have heard your shoulder pop. On the bright side, you're still alive. Sleepers must have softened your landing with their bodies, and judging by how the mass of flesh beneath you writhes, they too must have felt the fall.
You find yourself in some sort of cellar. Something old, given how moldy the walls are; nevertheless, even with your augmented sight there's little you can discern.

Phoenyx: Mangled flesh, your wounds pulsate with blood. It hurts. It takes some effort, but you make it to the end of the hallway before the meat-grinder catches up to you. A single mote of light beckons, offering your salvation in the form of the flickering button of an elevator. You don't even touch its surface, that the steel maws open with a click. Will you take the gamble?

    Shodan

Focused on the mysterious signal, Shodan experiences a bit of 'lost time', so his transition from the noisy club to... whatever Silent Hill-themed crap this is is a bit startling. Despite that (or maybe because of that), the Prime Mover quickly retreats into science and reason.

First, he dissolves two glyphs hovering around him. They're both redundant right now, as Shodan's presence was clearly discovered, and there's barely any sound to influence. Now that the immediate distraction was out of the way, a moment of planning was in order. First, what are these phenomena he is experiencing? Logic dictates that they are magical, and that they can be either spatial (i.e. he is transported between physical places or dimensions) or mental (i.e. his mind is influenced to confuse him and cut communications with the rest of the team).

For the moment, Shodan decides that mind manipulation is the more likely method (the fact that he can still hear his 'friend' seems to support that thesis). He's not drugged, and hallucinogenic agents in gaseous form are not a thing. Dosage, the visions' complexity... no, this is spellwork. Techne targeting them specifically. And yes, he thought them, because there's no reason to assume Kaze and Phoenyx do not experience anything similar.

The thing is, he sees no glyphs. Which doesn't mean they are not there - Shodan focuses his Supernal Vision in search of any cloaked spells. When the laughter reaches him, the Libertine's ears reflexively try to catch the sound's origin point, and the rest of his senses attempt to notice any discrepancies around. if this really is a hallucination, then forcing your mind to notice that might be the first step towards unraveling it.

Oh, and he also tries to protect himself with a Mind cantrip, but no matter how hard he tries, it just doesn't come to him and amounts to little more than wasted energy.

Shodan: When it comes to "magic", logic is often thrown out of the window. Try as you might however, you just can't find any sign of the supernal at work. Instead, you're getting that feeling, the one you experience every-time you hazardously craft an imago that is then besieged and corrupted by non-existence. The same feeling you once experienced by witnessing the Sentinel's terrifying nimbus.
The carefully arranged strands of mana unravel under your fingertips, dissolving into the tapestry.
You hear that feminine laugh, again, behind you, again. You turn around, but you can't find anything other than a passing flicker of shadow; one of the neon lights in the hallway to your left has fizzled and is now blinking itself out of existence.
Then footsteps, high heels coming your way.

Sensing cloaked spells is a reflexive action prompted by the caster of the cloak (ie: if there were cloaked spells around, I would have prompted the roll). For actively scouring for glyphs in an area you've identified as a probable nexus of mystic energy, you need to throw scrutiny and score a number of successes equal to twice the potency of the cloaked spell. Alternatively, for concealed sources without prime 2, you'd need to score a number of scrutiny successes equal to potency (if you have supernal vision). The only exception are prime 3+ cloaking effects that cannot be detected without a mage sight spell of a potency higher than the concealing spell, and even then, you won't be able to read the actual resonance until the spell has expired. All in all, those kind of spells are undetectable especially if they're cloaked with prime 2. Nevertheless, in this instance, Shodan just doesn't have the time to throw 4-5 scrutiny rolls around, especially since the room is fairly large, and scrutiny rolls on the same object are capped

When your magic fails you and you can see nothing that could pull the threads of the trap obviously woven, what can you do? You can make sure you're back against a wall (stab attacks is something he'd prefer to avoid if he can't even see the enemy) and... wait.

So, Shodan waits. Without much hope, he tries to face the origin point of the laughter, bracing himself for the encounter.
