(Red Right Hand) Take a Little Walk

Her tail lightly bopped Titania in the back of the head as she moved past the Telluric to scout the way forward. "Now's probably not the best time for that sort of talk, Starlight. Leave him alone, okay? Abe has a pledge with him." Emotionally traumatizing Samuel with Fetch revelations didn't seem like the best move while trying to traverse the Hedge. At least Sonnie thought so. The monkey Beast was more concerned with outward dangers, and they'd already wasted enough time on the Cabin of Scary Cat Moms. She wanted Sam focused on navigation.

"Well, maybe we can check up on your wife - girlfriend? - for you, Sam. When we get back, that is. Let you know how she's doing?" Seemed like a neighborly thing to do, and Sonnie felt bad for him. She didn't get to spend much time around others of her Seeming, and she felt a little protective of the peacock.

Going off the established trail to a a side path was, however, something of a surprise. Was reaching the Red Poppy Company for regular trade always going to be this involved and risky? She hoped they would set up in a more easily accessible location once matters were settled. Foraging into the thorns was not exactly going to be a fun time.

"Right... well, tally ho!"

Sonnie pushed forward the way Samuel indicated, keeping alert for dangers (and goblin fruits) while using her staff to beat back the more obtrusive parts of the underbrush.

According to Sonja, the stranger had been bound in a pledge with Sir. Abe. Although she wasn't aware of the exact lettering of the contract, she knew that this kind of agreement couldn't just bind outside parties. Whether Sam would be in cohort with their enemies, or was just unwittingly leading them to their doom, or was really the representative of a honest company, she couldn't know.
What she knew, was that no pledge could prevent his associates from hurting them, as a matter of fact, only Sam would bear the cost of breaking a contract, and given what had transpired, he probably had much more threatening things to worry about. Furthermore, she couldn't rule out the possibility that Sam was a mere pawn in the chess game the hobs of this Red Poppy Company were playing.
And so, she decided that she needed a more somber look, if anything to be able to discern a bit more of their Guide's past. The man had talked about his experience extensively, that was enough to fulfill her obligation with the Wyrd.
She focuses her sight on the back of the man, waiting for the Wyrd to flow her vision with images of the man's traumatic past. It wasn't respectful, but to paraphrase what the great Greek physician, Hippocrates once said: "Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures".

The Hedge and current events dissolve like a blistering film reel, flooding the sense for a brief vision.

The desperation of a husband whose wife is close to suffering another traumatic loss, a wealthy looking patron of the arts approaching after the performance. A offer to pay for her medical expenses, lest they lose another great artist to poverty.

The deal was clearly strange, but a moment of sacrifice ends in a body ripped asunder and broken into into something better, movement as delicate as to not break the surface of water and moonlight. But the love would always pull him back, much to Its endless frustration.

He hoped It kept Its promise, the panic as black as pitch that vengeance would befall them.

[Circe]

Samuel didn't know what a Fetch was? That was going to be unpleasant to explain. And probably cause distress. Not something you wanted in your guide through the Hedge. It was more pragmatic to tell him later, Abraham's Pledge with Samuel or not. Cruel but Circe did just declare herself a bad person to the talking cat.

Hopefully the Spring girls didn't push. Nor did Abraham. Circe was starting to dislike being the only Summer here.


"Internet," was her own suggestion, "Can check that fer a lot of stuff these days. Not in here but back on the mundy side, root." She points out a gnarly root to Titania as Circe steps over it, "Worry about it later ya know?"


As the path tightens Circe decides to secure and then shoulder the shotgun. Instead she has draws her pistol for the tighter confines. How did goats even find paths like this? And why were they always goat paths? Oh goodie, they had to got into the Thorns now. Wasn't that going to be fun.

At this point Circe sighs, "Oh what fun this will be. I know it won't be practical but," she draws the machete, "Slashing back will make me feel a whole lot better about Thorn divin'."


After a moment she decides to add, "And now I really wish I'd gotten some Hedge made armor."

Sonnie's hearing, enhanced as it was by Contract, had no issue picking up Abraham's whispered complaint. Which the Fairest apparently counted on. She glanced over her shoulder at him, her expression irritated. Did he expect her to answer as discreetly?

She gave a low hanging branch a solid thwack with her bo staff, snapping it aside to keep the path forward as clear as was convenient. Mostly this was for Titania's sake. The Bright One was going to have enough trouble as it was in those shoes.

After that, she drifted back to whisper to the Flowering Knight. "I meant look her up on Facebook. So no, I was not suggesting we break into her house and scare her and the kid. I'm just trying to keep Sam's mind off the scary possibilities Tits was bringing up. But thanks for the assumptions about my intentions. Again." She ended her whisper with an annoyed growl that was not as quiet as it could have been, and moved back to her scouting position. Her posture made it clear she considered the exchange over.

Samuel flinches at Sonnie's offer, "I appreciate the concern. Perhaps in time, if we do not remain strangers," he said carefully. He raises a hand in a placating gesture at Abraham, "I-it is no trouble." Eyes dart between them obviously trying to shut up the Telluric. "What is it? Would they be in danger?" His feathers rose momentarily before he schooled himself with a breath.

Please indicate when you are finished with the social portion of the Scene, and I will call for some extended rolls that will generate results in the next Thread.

Circe takes a couple of swings against the Thorns to see if mortal steel beat fae wood. For now it did. "Huh?" the elfin Fairest looks between Titania and Samuel, as she wasn't paying enough attention save for the word danger.


Danger? They were in the Hedge. It was kind of a given.
