& then Knot (followed by Banshee) step through. A hand lifts in (vain) attempt to halt/pause.

"Wait...." a sigh, the sentence conclusion issued to the Portal, "at least take a rope or something..."

"Whelp... let's see what they can discover I guess."

A lot most likely. But had they discussed it a little more, made a POA, a system... likely more. Frustrating. But not the end of the world, just ... a set back in efficiency.

Step closer, peering in, watching the scene. Looking for clues.

"It may be best to keep the portal open." Weavebreaker said to Sand. She was slowly becoming more certain that Knot was more of a liability, than an asset, in most situations.

"Could potentially try to create a pole or something, to keep in the portal." Weavebreaker shrugged.

"The big thing is going to be...knowing whether someone steps through...they can immediately come back." Weavebreaker wondered about a third possibility, if the circular flow had to be reversed on the ley line. Still, more information was needed before that test would be conducted.

[Knot]

Ah, that's better, Knot thinks as the tick tick tick of time resumes inside his mind. Always listen to the Acanthus. They know what they're talking about. Knot flashes a smile at Banshee, a silent appreciation for her taking him at his word.

When the man speaks, Knot begins to approach him at a slow walk. "Oh? Were we expected?" Knot asks as he studies the flow of time around man's pattern, and how it was affected. Knowing the nature of the person before them might be useful, but mostly he was doing it because he was curious.

The others? They could stay in that frozen moment for as long as they wanted, he guessed. From an outside perspective it might last only a moment

We might lose the good one", he obviously meant Langdon, "but on a long enough timeline we'll come ahead. They keep doing this stuff, sooner or later somebody will wind up in a bodybag"

Weavebreaker looked back to Sand. Her face scrunching as she thought. A rope...

Weavebreaker closed her eyes for a moment, focusing on the task at hand. She traced out the symbols in the air, as the glowing white pattern began to form. The image grew clear in her mind. Her will was made reality; drawn to the fallen from the supernal.

Mana coalesced, gaining a solid, yet pliable shape. The image in her mind, rope; and lots of it. It laid coiled in a pile at her feet.

Weavebreaker looked at it for a moment, before she knelt down and grabbed an end and some excess. She found the other end, wrapping one loop around her hand. She intentionally kept it loose. If there was a force that pulled, she didn't want to get drawn in with it. With that done, she tossed the one end into the portal.

Knot and Banshee

Despite the distance the man seems to deflate at Knot's words. "Ha they didn't tell you either? Makes sense I suppose." The blond man starts to slowly unroll the sleeves on his button down. Disheveled appearance clearly not something he wants to project. Rolled up sleeves, top three buttons undone. Wrinkled pants.

"Tell me, how long have I been in here? My phone died a while ago and that damn light never goes away." Calm, measured, but with a distinct undertone of fear. As Knot examines the man he can tell that the man isn't just a man, he's something more.

Behind the two mages a soft thump can be heard as something lands outside of where the portal was.

Back in Sacramento

The end of the rope is tossed and sails into the portal with ease. Nothing pulls and the rope remains slack. Looking through the portal shows that the rope landed on the other side as if the portal were nothing more than a boring ordinary window.

Knot and Banshee please roll for Perception (Wits+Comp). Per the Scrutiny rules 1 success is enough to tell that the person is not what he seems to be, but the mage doesn’t necessarily know what the subject really is. As the man appears to be a man overtly Knot's 1 success is enough to tell that he's more than just a human.

"Who's 'they'?" he asks the Stranger.

Once through the Portal and met by a man and not a monster, Banshee is flat footed. She knew that Doom was a possibility, but was she impatient to meet her's...?

Knot apparently thinks so with how his arm raises to bare her way.

"Depends on when you got here friend." she calls over the impassible barrier of Knot's arm, answering his question with a veiled question of her own. When had this man(?) come here, recently she assumes if he knew of a phone and it's capacity to tell time....though he could be a mirror monster. Something that was reading their surface thoughts to endear itself to them, wishing to be freed of this prison.

She gives an internal shutter of pure bliss, were it only so!

He decided he'd need a bit more of firepower. The ley line dissolved under his feet as he dismissed the spell. Pulling from the reaches of the Aether and Pandemonium at the tune of a long lost language, his sight was now augmented by the Supernal.

"Might as well enter and make sure those idiots don't hurt themselves", he shrugged, "once inside, I'll call Sand's mobile". He clutched the rope with one hand and his phone with another, took a deep breath and plunged forward.

After a few disorienting seconds spent staring at the blackness, his gaze soon travelled over the stranger, in order to decipher his nature

The man stops unrolling his other sleeve and just looks blankly at Knot for a moment. "They. Them. The People in charge. I'm not saying their names man. They're everywhere. Just putting in my time trying to prove myself." He returns to rolling down the second sleeve. "I don't know. I saw a brown haired guy looking around like a madman then saw him stare for a while between those trees." A wave towards the between that Winter steps through. "O another. Lot of people for this."

A dismissive wave at that. "Anyway, the guy disappeared and then a weird hole opened and I saw him hurrying through here. I stepped in to follow him and he slipped out somewhere over there." With a nod towards over there. An over there that Knot and Banshee both see glimmer and then reality flexes and a crack forms. Nothing as clean or as circular as the first one. This one is ugly and seems to leak a purple light. The Man doesn't notice it however, though Knot sees a crack in his demeanor, the guy is deeply scared.

"When he went in over there he disappeared and the way home disappeared also. So I've been waiting here for..." Winter can tell that the man is something more than just a human and that he is absolutely terrified on the inside. "Ah. I don't know. That's why I asked. My phone should have lasted at least two days at the charge I had it at."
