I'll go with that for now. I don't want to get bogged in rules variations here. Court is for socialising

It was nice to see Simmons' heat wasn't just a one-off.

Moretti took a seat, but waved off the offer to play. "I think I'll watch, but I'm certainly interested, Mr. Davis. It's nice to see what was played in days gone by." She gave Taft's reply a nod, then looks waaaay up, offering the big man a shake.

When there was a break in the lengthy explanation of the rules of the game, the little Daeva said, "Krieg, is it? Nice to meet ya. Lina Moretti, Grand Wyrm of the Ordo Dracul."

"Thank you for identifying it, Rebecca."

    "Good evening, Lawrence."
The Mekhet was ever the enigma. The Clan he was Sired into fit him like a shirt. He made a mental note to himself to speak with Taft in private, later on.

Krieg's brows rose sharply as Davis instructed him to "listen up." The word around the Domain about Davis proving to be credible. He made no attempt to conceal his surprise. "I will observe," he remarked sharply.

His gaze shifted to the bitter Dragon. "Hello Lina," he greeted in response. A black leather gloved hand arose to grip Lina's hand. Even through the leather, the chill of the grave - the Nosferatu's Curse - could be felt. "Hierophant of the Circle of the Crone."

Davis shuffles the cards in preparation of a new group of turns.

Those playing Faro, roll Wits + Academics to predict a winning bet.

Noting the sharpness in the giant's voice, Davis hoped his jovial instruction did not get misinterpreted. Then he heard the man introduce himself as the Hierophant of the Crone. Images of Baron Samedi dressed voodoo practitioners came to mind followed by the visage of Baron Cimitiere. Had Davis been alive he would have taken a hard swallow. Seeing that it wasn't, he betrayed only a momentary pause and continued dealing cards.

Krieg's statement unlocked torpored memories locked inside Davis's mind. His sire and his stories of fleeing the Haitian Revolution. And every encounter Davis had had with the Crone while residing in New Orleans.

Davis would watch the Hierophant carefully for tells. More so than anyone sitting at the table. Then Davis caught a smell from across the room. Sunbaked Catfish. She's here! Weeks of crawling around underground looking for signs and it is here I find Miss Weiss. I wish there was a way to summon her here indiscreetly. Davis glances across the room to notice she is occupied. It didn't matter, he couldn't leave the table and he wanted their discussion to be private. Elysium was all but that.

Rebecca's smile held firm, even as the two men's resolve to 'joke' over gambled favors wavered. "Oh I'm not dissuaded Priscus Taft. But since that's off the table, I might as well have some fun," she said, while thinking that having them both in her debt for insulting the system would have been far more fun.

Davis attempted to play off another lapse in tongue with some verbose word play, smiling over his own amusement. It would seem his greatest skill was talking his way in and out of trouble. 'In' seeming to happen far more often than 'out'.

Her eyes shifted to Lina as the woman turned down the game, for now. It seemed at a minimum the woman was interested in the old fashion card game, though she was clearly more interested in Krieg and Taft than Davis.

And then Krieg spoke, and an unusually familiar title came out of his mouth. "Why Mr. Krieg. I didn't realize we were so...intimate," she said with a playful smile. He was not of the First Estate, so she would not take offense. The man did have only one name after all. "You haven't even bought me dinner and yet we're on a first name basis? Who would have known."

As she awaited a response she placed a 'friendly' bet on the expected 'winning' card.

"Hierophant, eh... all right. Good to see the Circle is about."

Good to see them. Like she knew about them. Hopefully they all weren't psychopaths like her fucking Sire. Why the hell was he so cold? She realized her thoughts were tending toward high salinity. Was it John Davis and his insistence on trying to get people to gamble in boons? Was it the press of Beasts, weighing down her mind and stressing her out? As the Doc toyed with Krieg about Invictus first name stuff, she rubbed at the bridge of her nose. When the round finished, she stood up. She'd done what she set out to do here.

"All right. I'm gonna circulate and see what else is going on. I'll catch you all later. Enjoy the game."

Lina Moretti returns to the main thread.

Taft grins wryly at Davis, with rare and apparent enthusiasm. "Predicting fate, you say? You've convinced me." The Shadow observes the shuffling and dealing of the cards, doing his best to anticipate a likely result. If only he'd fed recently... perhaps he could gain a temporary edge from someone's card shark ancestor. He quirks a brow at Rebecca's pick, then nods to himself. "I'll bet the same as Madam Simmons. It would seem it will either be us or the dealer. Best of luck. Dealer."

A look is spared Kreig's way, as the man opts to simply observe. Taft wonders whether caution or pride governs that decision. "Perhaps the next hand, then?" The Skald would certainly add another layer of intrigue to the game.

And, despite himself, he decides that he is enjoying himself.

"Enjoy your evening, then, Ms. Moretti." He quickly scribbles his contact information on a napkin and offers it to her before she leaves.

"Evening then." He replied as Lina left the table.

"I must say, it is most refreshing to be back at this again. I do think next month I will bring the full set, chips and all. It will make for good practice for when I launch the Spirit."

Turning back to the game. "Congratulations winners. Place your bets for the next turn. Do remember the odds have decreased on the cards just played." Davis dealt another turn.

The Invictus woman's response raised the Acolyte's eyebrows. A teasing grin appeared upon his face. "Such controversy, indeed! Just imagine what the neighbors will think!" Rebecca's friendly demeanor certainly charmed him.

Lina's departure was swift. It left the Nosferatu a bit disappointed. He suspected it was more to do with others, not simply himself.

Davis mentioned something that caught his ears, "...launch the Spirit." "Could you elaborate on this Spirit?"

    Rebecca Simmons

"Good evening Ms. Moretti," Rebecca said as she watched the bitter woman wander away. Hopefully she would find someone to converse with.

They weren't gambling anything of real value, unless Rebecca showing off her skills was value enough. She gave Taft a friendly smile. "It would seem your trust in my prediction paid off, figuratively speaking." The number of remaining cards bounced around in her mind as she calculated the next most probable card. "I wonder if we can beat the house again?" she added, playfully eyeing Davis as she placed a much larger faux bet.

Krieg was very...interesting. He quickly followed her playful lead with a quip of his own. "The neighbors truly are wont to talk, aren't they? Though I seldom quiver at the thoughts of those who whisper in shadows," a smile still on her lips. Rebecca certainly could handle herself when it came to wars of words and gossip. Then again, Krieg didn't seem like the kind of man she'd be ashamed to have rumors swirling around about, regardless of any actual desires, or lack there of.

Hearing Krieg ask more about the Spirit, Rebecca focused her attention on Davis. "I too am curious about this Spirit you speak of." She had her suspicions what he could mean. Davis tended to be a man out-of-time and he used the word launch. Perhaps a gambling boat? Was that even legal in California? She was unsure off the top of her head, though she wasn't against the idea of less than legal endeavors.
