The Domain of Sacramento has a Hunter problem.

After the disruptions caused by Erica Brady and lately by the Belial's Brood incursion, Hunters have descended upon the city like a migrating herd following sources of food and water.

The Kindred do not know where they are.

The Kindred do not know who they are.

The Kindred do not know their intentions.

The Kindred must find them and quickly. Some have already begun...

And here is another legwork thread for tracking down... Hunters. Because they don't exactly advertise themselves either.

Merits such as Allies, Contacts, and some forms of Status will be handy here. Simply pounding the street looking for a break will only get you so far...

So far Cayce Lokio and deltadream have indicated interest.

Neighborhood watch groups popping up with militant attitudes.

Gangs growing and taking to the streets.

Enhancements of policing, whispers in the force about 'places you don't go' growing into murmurs about 'maybe we need to go there, clean up the shit'.

Churches, holding vigils about terrors in the night.

Strange crimes. Odd situations. Poor cover-ups.

These were all things that Lina Moretti watched for as she monitored for risks to the Masquerade to pass on to the Reeve. And so it was that the young Dragon made calls to her people. Ol' Tony always had his ear to the ground; Johnny Law knew a thing or two about a thing or two, and she was working nightly to get others going. News reports would help her, too, to provide context - everything had to be put together in its own way, and the fastest way to do that was to have eyes and ears everywhere.

She had her printouts and her notes, and this night she sat in Elysium, going over everything she had come up with thus far. Maybe everything was okay, but a good detective didn't sit on her laurels and wait for information to show up. Social engineering. See something? Say something.

Proactivity and planning. That was how you got ahead of an issue. The right question could go miles.

Lina Moretti is plugged into the city and it sings to her. Pity she may not quite know the language or the type of song Sacramento is singing right now - but at least its singing, right?

Johnny Law is grumbling (from frustration) about how much resources and influence a new Gang "Strike Team" is getting. Clearly this is a long standing bug up his arse, but it now appears that this "Strike Team" is all over the place. And on his back. Maybe its something or maybe he's just made an enemy on the force. Who knows?

Ol' Tony (he of the limp, love of food, and talking Lina into Torpor). This time they meet up "for a night on the town" which translated to Lina wasting an entire night in a series of disreputable clubs and bars with Ol' Tony stuck to her like a malingering smell. Teasing all he said out of his mindless data dump took a few more nights are careful reflection.

Ol' Tony knows of the Gang Strike Team as well. Enough to steer clear; enough to lie low. Too much gang activity lately and the cops will bring the "Strike Team" out, brush it off, and let it go. So far he knows the Strike Team is focussed on South Sacramento, Florin, and Elk Grove. He suspects that Yusuf and his Crew might be behind that (being that Yusuf keeps a tight ship, talks to anyone, and hangs about in North Sacramento). He lets something slip about the firebombing of the Old Maitland Junkyard - and how the family operators were a rogue crew, so go figure, they pissed off someone or kicked off something... Elk Grove, man. Elk Grove.

Speaking of Yusuf. Ronnie G, a local petty crim, has been seen with Yusuf recently. Ronnie G has gone off with the kooks recently too. Used to be okay, for a hopeless hustler, if you get my meaning. Now he panders to the crazy crowd as some kind of salesman dude. Funny thing is, he is doing a roaring trade...

Of course, the Strike Team won't be looking into the party drug set. Not with the likes of Bruce Harcourt offering hush money. If he wants to run drug filled orgies in the tunnels under Old Sacramento, and in the sewers, then more power to him. Ol' Tony still has no clue as to why they need the guns and knives, though.

Researching the news proves difficult. Traditional media shies away from the time of information Lina needs. And the scream feeds requires patiently wading through intellectual garbage. There is only so much gutter trash one can plough through and Sacramento has plenty. An abduction racket in Citrus Heights, Roseville and the northern reaches of the city seems a possible lead (multiple sightings of a yellow van) and an ongoing hysteria of an albino alligator in the sewers seem to be the only leads.

If in doubt, get it all out. Up on a whiteboard, in the notes, get it where she could see the global picture and where others could look. This problem wasn't just some little thing. The Masquerade was at risk, and nobody could solve that alone. She'd need help. Similarly, a Domain full of hitters couldn't do shit if they couldn't see the bigger picture. It was going to take teamwork and thoughtful application of investigation and force to get this done.

So Lina Moretti wrote with a black whiteboard pen, leaving spaces for photographs and additions.

All pieces. All would need to be looked into. It was a real bummer that her guy in Sac PD didn't know more, but Tony had come the fuck through. That guy was going to get a bonus in his Christmas card, come hell or high water. The Sac PD was a serious danger, but a serious opportunity, so long as the Kindred kept their leads low and connected Hunter activity to gang activity. Moretti didn't usually solve her problems with direct violence; why do that when it wasn't too hard to get the police to do it for her in the name of the law?

She'd need to beat the streets. But some more research could be done here and now. Who the fuck was Bruce Harcourt? Easy websites like pipl.com and other investigative channels often could provide a piece. She knew he was a rich guy. Parties. Connections, perhaps, to police officers.

Time to get the ball rolling. She glanced around the Elysium, then set to it with her phone. First, she snapped a photograph of the Board. Then, she got to looking into Harcourt's internet presence. It occurred to her that her browser history was probably pretty magical to the outside eye.

Bruce Harcourt. Disgraced movie producer of... terrible movies. Faded - or is that jaded? - adult entertainment star of yesteryear. So bad (or just plain dumb) that he got kicked out of the L.A. scene and the San Francisco scene.

Bruce Harcourt: clearly a fashionista in his own mind (excepting of course his terrible taste in clothing, uncanny valley orthodontics, and horrible tans).

AVENUES FOR IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION (PRIORITIES):

1) Surveillance of Bruce Harcourt. Potential infiltration of his circle. Lower risk due to being further from Strike Team.

2) Investigation of Ronnie G and his ring of crazies. Long-term investigation of boss Yusuf and his actions.

3) Political examination of funding and support for Gang Strike Team.

4) Investigation of abduction racket.

5) Sewer.

Yes, those were the avenues for the moment. Lina thought about what her best way in was in each scenario. She was pretty, but she wasn't pornographer pretty. Yet she had a certain streetwise vibe about her that did work, and her connection to her humanity was strong enough that she could doll herself up and stun as needed. She needed some help. Certain things, she could do on her own, but Hunters were rarely handled best on one's own.

She thought about it. A boy with social skills and a talent for minds. A stunning beauty, most likely possessed of much allure. People who could blend in.

Verne. van Valen.

And then there was the nerds needed to look at the politics and the background of what was going into the Strike Team.

Simmons.

They'd be going in different directions, but Lina knew they needed to start together and put together as much shit on this whiteboard as they could, now.

She had been there when the warning was given. It was time to find out for herself.

If Lina had been asking for Rebecca's help so soon, she imagined it was important. The woman didn't exactly seem capricious. Walking into Elysium she immediately saw the whiteboard that Lina had on display. Carefully she looked it over, trying to find out where she could help. "Let me see what I can find," she said to Lina.

Immediately her eyes caught the word "drugs". She figured they had to be coming from somewhere, so she reached out to her friends in the medical world to find out if some drugs had been going missing and if so where. Maybe even if some potential victims had showed up in the morgue.

She then turned to her understanding of politics to determine if she knew where the funding and support of the Gang Strike Team would be coming from.

Finally she reached out to her contacts in the police and emts to find out what they knew. Maybe they knew of deaths related to these orgies. Or maybe they would know if any of the people on Lina's whiteboard had any recent history they should know about.

Vague summons were the best summons. Still, Lina dropping mention of the First was enough for Clara to force an effort if only out of self-interest.Clara arrived at the Nox and was quietly ushered to Elysium. She found a whiteboard that had the sort of scrabbling that made JFK conspiracies look tame by comparison. She blinked at the sheer volume of it. "What's an albino alligator got to do with the First." It wasn't a question. Clara got the distinct impression she was about to get hazed.

Still, the text from Lina had sparked a dormant thought in Clara's mind about the Tribulation Militia. Immediate curiosity needed satisfaction. She fished out her phone and started to scan the alerts she'd placed for weird news that might link back to the cult. She offered the Doctor a cursory greeting and, upon seeing Lina, would ask "What's this about specifically?" She said with only the most cursory of glances from her phone.
