Night and with it a chill cool as though the air was struggling to hold onto the last vestiges of winter with all their might.

Night, out where Roseville and Sacramento blurred imperceptibly into one. Rail yards loom in the gloom, forcing the roads to twist back on themselves as if they encounter an impenetrable barrier. Housing estates rise to snare the unwary and lead the seeker astray. The freeway that hurtles by, elevated, is its own world: rushing ever forward to destinations far beyond the city. If this part of town is seen at all, it will flash by as a pool of night and the shadowed mass of heavy industry.

This makes getting to the gas works difficult requiring forward planning and dexterity when using the infernal Sat-Nat device.

And there is the gas works, taking up a large and forsaken lot of land between the urbanity of Atkinson Street and the wilderness of dry creek. There is the great drum of the gas works proper, surrounded by a three dimensional warren of platforms, stairwells, pipes and chain-link fences. Machinery lies idle like sleeping titans and a great mechanical mass slumbers over a large pond at the southern end of the complex, whose depths can only be guessed at.

Only a few lights gleam feebly against the dark. It would almost be depressingly lonely, if the gates were not open. And as inviting as the jaws of Cerberus.

[Mable Wood]

Mable had volunteered to check the trees in the area of the gas works. That way no one else from the office would be here day or night. Less danger to in mortals. She waiting in the chilled air for the others. She hoped she had gotten the time and place right. Her promise to her new Prince was she would give her all to protect the domain. So here she was. Her blond hair was pulled back with a black knitted cap over it. Her dead skin pale in the night covered by a black tshirt, sweatshirt and jeans. Black military style boots were on her feet. Over all she felt a bit gangsta, or at least an overdramatic rendition of it. Her eyes reflected the smile which curved at her lips. She sank into a dark shadow and waited.

It took some navigating but eventually the location was reached. Still dressed as she had been at the area of dog fighting, she made her way deeper in on foot after leaving her vehicle some ways back.

Scanning the area she caught the last hint of Mable’s movement before the other woman was shrouded. Reigning in her beast, knowing that even this was the beginning, she approached, her hand lifted in greeting.

Unfortunately, the Reeve was not the first to arrive. Just arriving at the Gas Works had taken far more effort than Takeda had expected, and so she could feel the call of the demon road when she finally stepped from her vehicle and girded her swords through her belt. The call was answered, in turn, by the hellish intent pouring from the Reeve's sisters in arms, the truth of their soul, their sakki, almost making her tremble.

She prayed that, by the end of the night, her blades would be dripping with blood.

"Hello," she offered as she approached, with a slight bow given to the Duchess.

Twist accepts the greeting from Kreig with a small smile and a nod of the head.

Turning to the other women she expounds on the text that she had sent.

"Buster received permission to be in the city from this Karl individual. Buster seems unaware of the true Prince of the city. I do not know if Karl does and is merely attempting to seize a domain of his own despite this or if he too is ignorant. But either way, it cannot be tolerated."

"I propose that we seek information first before charging in. It is not my strong suit, but I do not think that we need an elaborate cover story to simply learn about this usurper."

Falling silent, she glances about the small group, a sign of opening the floor to other opinions on the matter.

After Mable's beast calmed a bit, she stepped out of the shadows to get closer to the group. The giant man was a bit intimidating and the Reeve always looked like she was gonna just jab a knife into someone. She knew Twist was a force to be reckoned with, at least if stories were true. She was glad they were on her side.

Mable smiled at the group. "Well, how do we want to go about gleaning information? If we just want to ask a few questions sweet and easy? Or do we want a show of force and strength?"

"The phrase is actually: 'Speak softly, carry a big stick," Takeda corrected Krieg, the stain of murder in her gaze adding an edge of almost overwhelming irony.

"Regardless," she continued, pleased that she had the opportunity to needle her rival so soon after arriving, "I believe that this is the best advice. Karl has a coterie. We are that coterie. We come seeking feeding grounds and refuge. We were turned away by the actual Prince. That should allow us to gain an audience, and if there is a threat then it shall be ended."

There was a part of Takeda that wanted to shiver at addressing the group in such a manner, when that group included the Duchess, but Takeda was Reeve, and the Duchess had not given orders. Thus, it was Takeda's duty to step in. If the others argued, well, then the night would get more interesting...

Twist thinks for a moment and then laughs, lowering her head toward Kreig, "My apologies." This is why Ish was Sheriff and she was Hound.

She was pleased that everyone seemed ready to solve the situation with the ending it deserved in her mind, but she did want to try something a little less drastic at first. So when Takeda spoke up, she nodded.

"Yes. I was thinking we would go in as a group seeking audience with this usurper and thus allow us to learn who he is as well as get information on his court size. This suggestion is a better refinement. It will also allow us to see if there is any reaction on their part to the news of a true Prince. If there is none there may be a chance we can grow our numbers so that this type of misstep does not happen again."

Well... maybe minus 1. The usurper Prince may still need to die.

"It is a simple plan and we should keep it that way- details will be where we get caught. The doors and corners."
