The faint chiming in her ears grew. At first a distant buzz, growing louder into an annoyance.

And then she pushed one last time.

Her Will strikes a wall. A wall she cannot climb. A cold, clammy wall that digs into her very muscles like a stitch or sudden back breaking twinge.

Aurora has Stamina 3. She is over her Spell Tolerance. Spell Casting is at -3 unless Aurora drops three of her current spells. Spell Casting fails.

Stained glass butterflies surround Tuesday, each pane on their tiny wings glows a verity of iridescent hues, while showing glimpses of what was, what is, and what will be. When vulgar magic is cast, the fluttering cascade doesn't last, they shatter. Falling into dull, colorless dust before vanishing completely.

Subtle or Gross, that was the question. Lingering in mind longer then it aught, but not long enough to place them in jeopardy - she hopes.

Tuesday relaxes the almost call upon the Gross, and reaches where she's more comfortable with.

Tuesday edges closer to the wall, placing a hand on the adjoining one. The one Tuesday hoped the guard-dudes were coming from.

Weaving a spell of misfortune into being. The static in her ears nearly causes her to falter, as dose tge oily grip if the Abyss, but she overcomes it, rubbing her sliver dragon's head, swallowing down blood and bile, imperfect blue glyph sparks come into being traveling the length of the wall.

Maybe some plaster is loose. Or a wire, or maybe there's some rotten wood. Something anything that might cause the guard-dude to just go away.

Prioritize steps to achieve max results with minimum work.

Highest priority: Keeping nosy guards away.

The best lies have an element of truth.

Nosy guards had heard something. But now they would hear something else. Something that ideally would push them away from the basement and back to the security of their forced card games.

As her spell bloomed and clicked, the orange dust sparkles revealing the imago, the sound of a rabid animal's hissing growl of warning began. Growing louder with each step of the guards toward the three mages.

Because while security guards might be prepped to face intruders or wanna be ghost hunters or even maybe ghosts themselves ... rabid cornered animals in dark corridors with lots of small hidey holes where usually a entirely different area of expertise.

Those required cages or animal control personnel. All of which, hopefully, were not down in basements on nosy guards.

The sweet, fragrant smells of roses mixed with lilacs emanate from her as she casts magic. The scent intensifies, bordering on intoxicating, when Life magic is cast. When Aurora casts Vulgar magic, the scent takes a nasty turn, to the putrid, nauseating odor of a rotting corpse. The stronger the magic, the more those around want to retch at the smell.

Fuck! She screams in her head, knowing she pushed too much.

She would have to lay off casting every five seconds.

So she focuses herself, shedding layers to relieve some of that wall.

Taking a deep breath, she asks once again, placing a hand against the wall and leaning into it,

“I need your help to find the path you seek. Can you give me a direction?” her voice soft.

Tuesday wrestles with her Imago; battles with it; sublimates it slowly into a blue glyph that floats away from her and seeps into the wall. Briefly, something glitters metallic at the end of the corridor, hidden by snaking pipes. Her muscles ache. Her spine shivers and something like a heavy stone settles in her stomach.

Sand is wrestling with her own casting, too. A shiver runs through her, but rather than cause a distraction the feeling spurs the Mighty to a moment of clarity and her spell clicks in place. An orange hued glyph bursts into existence, shimmers like a butterfly and flaps lazily around her head.

As per House Rules a 3-Dot spell is counted as Vulgar requiring a Paradox roll be included in the casting. I've included it above this time. Please be mindful of Paradox and Spell Limits

    <<The path was there>>

The spirit, intoning dolefully, appears to turn and gesture with... A limb? A pseudopod? Chains? An arrangement of large dust fragments? Its hard to to tell, given the distorted view the Shaman has of the entity. At least its moving back down the tunnel. Not one for words, the spirit says nothing till it reaches a spot far down the tunnel where it simply stops dead and hangs, suspended in the air with all the finality of a rock.

<<Here. The path was lost here. Confused>>

No wonder. The spot should have been a corner. A nice, simple, corner where the tunnel bent helpfully in only two directions. There are two other passages connected to the spot: one looks newer; one passage looks older and decidedly off centre. Piping, wiring, snakes and whorls, making the spot look like it was created by cowboy builders in a hurry.

The newer looking passage is marred by a flickering light. The older passage, off centre, oddly angled and sloping down, seems to leer evilly in a curious red/black monochrome. The local Resonance spikes in confusion, so strong they can all taste it like foul air.

And the security guards. They heard the growls. The noise slowed them, certainly. Their conversation, distorted and amplified by Sand's still active spell, at least give the mages warning. One might be calling it in; the other, braver, angrier soul is checking it out.

He almost reaches the corner, grumbling loudly.

    The spirit, floating, suddenly utters

    <<We see the path>>

Moves to the old passage with its queer slow and position... And winks into full physical view.

Down the corridor from which the mages have come, a fuse box - poorly placed and overheated - suddenly explodes dramatically and plunges the whole basement into darkness.

Tuesday, unlike someone who has studied Mind cannot have two mental conversations at once, but that dosen't stop her mind from traveling down two lines of thought at once.

    Thought number one is 'shit'
Thought number two is 'i think this is my fault'

Gathering her will and reaching across the abyss to the Gross strains of Time, only to bite back bile as the oil slick of the abyss threads itself into her weave.

That compounded with the heavy stone already in her gut causes her bright cyan glyph to shatter.

Leaving them lost in the blackness.

Aurora was in full Spirit mode. She was not paying attention to what Sand and Tuesday were doing, only putting her trust in them to keep them all safe while she did her thing.

And as such, eyes follow whatever gestured in the direction, and as the Spirit moves, so does she. But first, she grabs one of the tools that she could use to break a wall, or bash a face in. Carrying it with her.

When it stops, she will as well. Studying it and its movements. This was not the direction she wanted to be going, but she had a job.

Well, it’s confusion was understandable. This section had changed.

But why? Was it to hide something? Or to purposefully mess with the Spirits that inhabited this place?

When it moves once again, she hesitates.

And before she can decide, the lights suddenly going out decides for her.

She stops dead, not moving. Her heart pounding in her ears.

Fuck! She was pretty sure they had flashlights, both her group, and the one that belonged to the voices.

So what now? She breathes and tries to focus on the sounds.

Cursing wouldn't help but it did not lessen the desire to do so upon hearing the commitment of one half of the guards being brave.

    Time for step two.
    A monster appears.
    Darkness occurs sans spell.

Cursing wouldn't help but it did not lessen the desire to so upon seeing the monster.

    Fuck it.

"Fuck!" At least it was said quietly, even if emphatically?

Step plan is thrown out the window even as guesses were made.

"Please tell me that was the spirit you were talking too?" she mutters to her companions as she quickly sheds her Sight in exchange for the ability to just ... well, see.

Reaching out she taps each of her companions, offering her hand. "We're going after it..."

The group can hear the two guards curse and grumble as they fumble around in the black. Clearly, having the whole area drop into darkness is not new to them, but it sure is annoying. One is valuable and angry; the other (the one who called it in, perhaps) more rationale - clearly those animals must have gnawed through some cabling and everyone knows how damn fragile the wiring is down here at the best of times...

In the confusion, the mages slip away.

Slip away under Sand's gentle ushering and down the off-centre passage (still lit, dimly, in its malevolent red light). Sand's eyes, adjusted, see crisply and clearly where Aurora's and Tuesday's do not.

This old, yet new, passage is strange as it curves away and around. The reddish glow does not flicker from the lights, which hiss, flicker, hum and bubble, as they pass. In the half light, the piping appears slick like pumping veins and some sections of wall seem remarkably... damp.

They catch up the spirt, now in full and solid reality. They can even smell it: dust and burned plastic, shorting wires and old newspaper.

<<We will find the others now. It was foolish to wander off alone. We will walk the path. It is what we do now. Walk the path. Guard the Ways. This has been the way since Mr. Pargeter was eaten by the Duke and his essence consumed. Why have you followed us?>>

    Aurora remembered that name.

The spirit twisted around rather than turn, its bulk rippling in a way that inorganic stone should not.

They had reached a T Junction. Something was coming (shriek of wheels, clank of gears, splatter of feet, beat of drum) - far off yet, but getting closer.

    Sand is best.

Being lead through the darkness by the Obrimos, made Tuesday realize that. Forces. Kinda cool. And maybe she should buckle down and try and get over her Soul's inherent difficultly in learning the Arcanum.

Then comes the t-fork. And the smell and the talking.

The name niggles something in the back if her mind. Aurora prolly said it when they debriefed after the first Bismark trip. So. The Shaman prolly knew more then fumbling questions could get them now. Especially with the...whatever it was comin' up on them.

So. Tuesday true to form. Opens her mouth to spew what might or might not be BS.

"It's dangerous to walk the path alone so we follow." and hopefully have a guide to whatever the fuck was at the centre of the basement from hell. Not that this trip as been hellish...yet. It was that yet that made her mark it as you know Basement From Hell.
