"Tough Guy it is," Jerry Game said quietly. He scratched at his check, fidgeted with his nose and turned on his heel. The young man's face settled into seriousness: a particularly strange look given his apparent youth - it was a look that was both jaded and sad; a look seared into the folds of his face from one too many bad experience.
"Yeah. Okay. I can put in $1500 right now. Cash."

StatusCross inclines his head when Kenneth moves to hiss into his ear. If he were living, the proximity, the sound of that voice, would make his skin crawl.
A nod of understanding. And then, in response to Mr. Game's own offer: "$1,750."
He looks from Radzinksy to Game and back again, a small, spiteful smile touching his lips.

Jerry Game stares. Fingers on one hand twitch. He attempts to cover this by pinching his nose, as if in thought, and fiddling with an ear. Despite his efforts, the movement looks just like it is: fake. A damp sheen is beginning to manifest on the young man's face.
He looks over at Radzinksy, then Cross, then back to Radzinsky.
"$2000!"
There is an edge to his voice, a thread of panic and tension that cracks it. The hunchback notices it too, and is thrilled by it. One of his goons steps back, a sense of disgust pulsing briefly from the thug.

Cynthia raised an eyebrow. Jerry was a jumpy man, that she quickly gathered. The fact he seems to be cracking from the pressure of bidding so soon? That was not expected.
The Haunt leaned over closer towards the young man, sweating and panicking. "You sure you go that much on you? You don't sound so sure..." She said with a slight smirk. The toxic stench of chemicals started to drift towards him. Surround him like the menacing, taunting tone of the hooded goth.

ObfuscateGilroy cracked his neck as he turned around. The nauseating snap like a fragile spine being broken. He looked askance at the Game, like a mangy dog deciding if he could thinking whether he could steal a bone.
The man's panic though, that concerned him. Perhaps because it felt somewhat familiar. Why would he be afraid of losing the bidding? Unless he was doing someone bidding. Could they be dealing with a ghoul? Or something else? The book had already attracted a fair number of supernatural creatures.
And what would a servant of some unknown party do if they lost the chance at buying?
Kenneth tensed, his eyes darting to Robert, the smell of smoke a constant reminder of death. Cross had already laid out thier plan if things went sideways.
Violence.

Status"Jerry. This isn't the time to bluff," Cross growls, adding to Cynthia's verbal jab. He's already standing beside the Breather and he leans in close to say it. Something in his posture, his tone of voice, gives him an aura of menace.
And then he reaches into his jacket, hand lingering there for a long moment...
Before extracting an over-stuffed envelope.
"$2,000 right here. Cash on hand. Ready to walk," he says. Eyes now firmly on Radzinsky. Though he's still standing a little too close to Game for comfort.

"I can make that. And more!" Jerry Game says again, struggling against the stench and Cross's suddenly intimidating stance. The effect is not good for the young man. With his schooled air of boredom shot, and gagging from Cynthia's stench, he does not present a strong face against Cross's casual professionalism. A more skilled negotiator might have been able to work the situation, but Game does not have that skill. Yet.
It is enough for Radzinsky.
"Eh. Heh heh. I'll go with your offer," the hunchback says to the burned man. He focusses his intention on the Haunt's making it clear that the deal is done. "We do the exchange here, now. And go our separate ways."
Jerry Game can only stare, at first in shock, then in annoyance, then with sullen rage, as the hunchback ignores him. The whiff of brimstone about him gets stronger.

ObfuscateGilroy’s nose twitched derisively at Game, like a rat finding the cheese. Then it twitched again. And again.
Something was wrong. Without his heightened sense he might not have even noticed the smell of sulfur. Or at least this close to Cross would have assumed it was part of the Burned Man’s curse. A manifestation of flaming hell that the man carried with him every where. Except…
It was coming from the wrong direction. The scent of the 16th element was coming not from Robert but from Game.
Kenneth’s nostrils flared again before he retracted the blood power his senses. He had a feeling something was about to happen. With Game getting angry, the smell of rotting eggs, and his previous evaluation of possible events; Kenneth was now pretty sure they were dealing with something more than a mortal. Whether mortal servant or night creature, he and his family were at risk. For all he knew Jerry could be one of the Nosferatu and he just hadn't noticed the curse because it overlapped so much with Robert's. Even so, there was little way to explain before violence potentially erupted.
He leaned in, facing the horribly scarred face, hoping to catch Robert’s eye.
“I smell brimstone,” he hissed with the urgency of a coiled snake. An obvious statement given the man's curse. But if he could catch the man's eye, the worm's glassy orbs darted fervently towards Jerry before coming back to Robert. "I'll start the car," he finished in a half whisper that all could hear.
With that he began to walk towards the vehicle. Hoping the exchange could be made, and they on their way before Game erupted with raging hellfire.

StatusCross listens to what Gilroy has to say and nods his assent. He's caught a whiff of that odd scent as well. And doesn't like it. He cuts his eyes at Cynthia, hoping she follows Kenneth's lead.
Though he'll be damned if he shows that he's nervous.
"Good. Let's do this then," Cross replies to Radzinsky. "I'd like to get going," he adds, giving Game a hard look.
With that, he approaches the hunchback, looking to make the exchange. Careful to keep the strange young man in his sights.

New IdentityThere was an odd feeling of satisfaction to seeing Jerry lose his cool. Cynthia smiled and stepped back. The veil of smells seemed to let up. She did not quite make out the first half of what was said by Gilroy, but the second part and look she got was really all she needed to know.
"Pleasure doing business." She said to the hunchback. She followed after the Fanged Worm to the car. She did glance back at Jerry one last time, looking slightly puzzled. Wonder who your boss is...
