Another month has gone by in this strange new place. It isn't strange in any conventional sense, though. Not matching the first intuitions one might have assumed. A city is a city, beaches are beaches and the Lost are... well, the Lost. No, what was strange about this place is the effect it had on Quick. It is a place that tugs on strings he had assumed broken. He could write it off as just being tired - or bored - of running, but that wasn't really true. Something here had made him want to experience things again.

He blinked a few times. A convertible with the top down zipped past his window on the bus. They were slowing down again.

"Last stop."

The Elemental sighed. The AC on the bus was feeling nice. Now, he'd have to step out into the hot sun again. No matter. He'd soon be lost in his own head again. Easy to drown things out. Headphones helped too. His thoughts returned to anywhere but the present as he stood, idly swiping through his phone for a new song. He shoes touched pavement. What was it about that feeling that got his heart racing? He felt the need to move again. It tugged as his tendons like little pulses of electricity. He didn't fight it.

Two blocks later the sweat has started beading. So fucking hot here. His fault for doing cardio outdoors. As he ran in place for the 'walk' signal, two thoughts tussled in his head. First: he needed new sneakers. Second: why the fuck was this signal taking so long? Fuck it. He glanced right. No traffic. He swiped to a new song and kept jogging.

Tires screamed. Quick flung himself down towards the curb as a red pickup swerved to avoid him. He rolled onto his back and stared at nothing as he lay on the curb. He vaguely heard a door slam and feet racing towards him. He blinked a few times, willing the shock of what almost happened away.

"Oh my God! Are you ok!? I'm so sorry!"
He heard the man. Saw him. But more, he felt him. The white hot panic; the Fear. When his head cleared, he imagined he'd feel it too. But then, in that moment, it was the driver's emotions that mattered. Quick tugged at them and felt the void fill up again.
