"Talk? <<snicker>> You want us to... talk. Did you think slaying an Elder Beast would go unnoticed? We heard. We are coming. Like a snake coiling about prey we will starve this place. You threw down the challenge, not us. Why would we not come to be tested?"
She cackled, quiet and cracked.
"Many will fall but those who rise will be better for it. We will get you eventually. The Dark always wins. Or you could just... run."

Slaying an Elder Beast? When did they do that? Did someone or a group of someones slay someone and no one told her?
“You and whoever you are talking about are quite delusional.” Was she Venture and it was part of their ‘madness’? You know, the ‘madness’ that no one really like to talk about but totally knew it was there.
“And running isn’t really our thing. So you gonna tell us why she was so important?” her free hand, the one not resting on her gun, points to Josephine. “Cause we don’t really have a use or need for her, but you guys seem a little obsessed with her. Was it her amazing sense of fashion? Or did she win some weird drawing to be chained to a wall and worshiped? Curious minds want to know.” Plus Ale wanted to know if they should just ash the Ventrue now or not.
Still on edge, Ale pushes the blood into her body, strengthening it in case of an attack.

Really, Cross doesn't care. To him, it's all nonsense. Posturing.
Alessandra and Longstreet are playing their parts well. Cross can't help but wonder what, exactly, Alice is up to. But he's too focused on the exchange to check up on her just now.
Instead, when the Reeve points to Sterling, the Burned Man shifts his position, and his knife hand. The blade rising toward Josephine's throat. Just enough to show his intention.
Give us what we want or I'll saw this miserable bitch's head right off.
This conversation just took a turn for the awkward. What kind of "Elder Beast" was the Fur Coat talking about? Did she mean an ancient vampire or something else entirely? Longstreet's heard that some demons can take physical form in addition to possessions, but that was way out of his expertise. He looked to the other two, but if they were as surprised as he was, their poker faces hid it well. That means that either:
a) the Fur Coat is simply mistaken, and someone else had slain the "Beast" or it was not slain at all.
b) the vampires of this Domain are way more badass than he first thought.
In any case, she needs a little incentive to start talking sense, and that's where hurting the former Reeve steps in.
"No soup for you, lady. When I said "talk" I meant it as in "talk sense". Humor us with some context. Me? I love me some good story, so why don't you keep me and my firends occupied with one and we don't have to think of a good reason why we shouldn't make shishkebabs out of Little Miss Altar Girl here. Because I can't guarantee we find any."

After another circuit and sensing nothing from her keen ears or her honed sense of danger, Alice crouches behind a bush or shrub or grass of some sort, and flicks her cell open, having felt it buzz earlier.
The text to speech app works and Alice gains Ale's message.
She honestly thought that this was something obvious, and exactly what she'd been doing, but dutifully, Alice whispers back at her app and send off the requested text to Robert.
Once that's sent off, Alice slips her cell back into her pocket and continues on her self-and now ordered task.

"You... You mean you don't know?"
A peal of laughter from the Fur Coat. A desperate sound but one that held a sudden sense of gloating.
"Oh you precious, precious, blind... things! The Lizard King was devoured and destroyed while he slept. He who had fashioned this hunting ground in the first place. He was a paragon. An example to us and to any with, you know, eyes to see! - just as she is an example to follow, too."
Wracked with a giggle, she gazed adoringly across the dimly lit chamber.
"She's perfect. What was human. What was weak. Its all been washed away. Only the animal remains. Pure and unsullied. You haven't even seen her kill. Its an... An... education. Why would you destroy beauty like that?"
"You rise in rebellion against the Lizard King while he slept. Tore apart his haven and took his personal hunting ground. His last followers were too cowardly to do what was necessary. Too scared to enact justice and much too in love with their pathetic eternity to stay and fight. Oh we heard about them - Brady and the others."
He face grew hard again.
"But we. We/ Are not. We are coming."
She smiled.
Up above, Alice Hart Saber Sloth detects the vague sounds of vehicles drawing closer.

Her head bobs back and forth, “We this and we that. What you are is a traitor, an unwelcome parasite that has disrupted a peaceful Domain. And I could give two shits about Brady and whatever you or your groupies think about her. She’s gone, turned into ash somewhere and not a concern.” or so she had been told.
So Josephine was an example to follow? Perfect? She offers an education when she kills? Well, so can they.
“So she’s perfect?” a chuckle following her words, “I’m sorry, but she isn’t. She’s a traitor, like you, to the true King of this area and his land.” This girl was clearly diluted by whatever she believed, as were most Brood.
Without turning her head she speaks to Robert, “Lets see how perfect she is as a pile of ash shall we. How much it will be to ash such a, what did you call her? A beauty?” Her eyes not leaving the Brood woman, looking for a reaction, for her to cry out for them not to, maybe offer more information for the Ventrues unlife.
She had never been in a fight with the Ventrue, but if the woman spoke the truth, and more Brood were coming, they could easily unstake her. Which would give them another enemy to fight, one that would probably be in a hunger frenzy. And that was a very dangerous Kindred, one that could kill them, and pose a Masquerade Breach.

The fucking Lizard King? Christ, this Jim Morrison bullshit is tedious. And the only lesson to be learned from Sterling, as far as Cross can see, is: Don't let the Brood make you into an Example. Seems like a shit deal.
But then there's a name that Cross recognizes: Brady. Rhayna's boss. What the actual fuck is going on here?
No time to think about that now. Because he's got a part to play. Picking up on Alessandra's cue, the Burned Man swings into action. In one fluid motion, he's grabbed a handful of Sterling's hair, wrenching her head up and back, exposing her throat. The knife is already firmly pressed to flesh there, just beneath the chin.
When he speaks, he's not looking at the Reeve. No, his flat blue eyes are on their prisoner. Boring holes through her.
"Just say the word." We'll see how perfect she is without a fucking head.
And now they were getting to the part when the fanatic reveals the Big Secret and mocks them for not knowing it all along. It was okay in his book - if the Fur Coat wanted to hide fear behind layers of sarcasm and hollow threats, that's her funeral. It won't matter in the long run, but if she didn't decide to stay silent, can't she just say it all at once. It would save everybody the trouble.
Maybe they should rough her up a little, just to wipe that smug smile off her face.
But it seems the other two have a different idea. Cross is ready to saw their torpid captive's head off, while Ale abandoned the rational and nice facade in favor of threats, no, promises of violence.
"See what you did? You've pissed off the boss and the guy with a knife! Didn't mom tell you not to piss off people with knives? But here's an idea: you tell us more about this King of yours and throw some of your friend's addresses to sweeten the deal, and maybe, just maybe we don't go all Texas Chainsaw Massacre here. So, how's it gonna be?" As he spoke, Robert was circling around the Fur Coat, with the last words being accentuated by a finger trailing along her spine, up to her neck. Not a pleasant feeling.

Just as soon as her first text left, she heard of another reason that she'd have to send another off.
Still in the bushes, Alice crouches lower, hoping-praying that it was enough cover for whatever was on the approach.
Then a second prayer offered up that they - if they were kindred, that they hadn't heightened their own hearing and couldn't hear her whispered words as she sends off another app granted talk to text to Robert Cross and Alessandra .
