(Pets) No Bark in the Park

McKinley park was a big and beautiful park. Usually at any given time, people were out walking their dogs or children were playing in the park. But, it was mid-week and mid-morning, and other than a few die-hard runners, hardly anyone was there. To anyone familiar with the park, this would be very strange and almost foreign. Particularly, there were no dogs about. But, for the many pets, even those not so famed by the news, there were signs on any open poster area. When pets went missing, people were not apt to let their children freely run a muck on the playgrounds.

As for the rose garden, it was also still. But, the roses were in full bloom and positively beautiful...except for one thing. There were signs up in a few different areas and behind them fresh piles of disturbed ground. There were many ways to enter the garden, but one distinct entrance.

Piling back into and out of Evelynn 's station wagon was a hassle but seeing McKinley park again made it worth it. The place was pretty. Well that, and finally feeling like their on the tracks of the Franken-faced pet-napper. As they approach the rose garden, the elemental shares a look with the Chimera; Beccs. They were finally getting somewhere. But Mhairi had a feeling like the women would do something rash and run off alone to confront the Franken-faced douche.

In accordance with the others in her 'party' she followed them into the rose garden.

"So-ah so how are-ah we gonna-uh-proceed?" Mhairi asks.

Evelynn clambered out of the car after Mhairi, her nerves jangling. Going to find the pets was all well and good, but what was she going to do, exactly, if they found the scary man who took them? Her hands were clutching at her book, her knuckles going white with the pressure, while they walked into the park.

"I... I dunno," she answered Mhairi's question softly. "Are we gonna go into the Hedge, or look around here, or...?"

Hank stepped out and looked at his two fellow sleuths. "Maybe we should look around first? We wouldn't want to go somewhere different," he said, avoiding any 'strange' words just in case, "and miss something here." With that said Hank looked around for anything out of the ordinary for a rose garden.

Alex spends half an hour wandering the park, not sure exactly what he's looking for. The weird emptiness and silence has him on edge... Then he notices the garden filled with... his distant cousins? Roses. Thorns. Hedges? He decides to take a closer look. As he approaches the gate he notices the other group. They must have gotten a tip as well...

"Hey, guys? How did it go at the zoo? Looks like you found a lead if you're here... Someone at the dog pound told me that something sketchy may be going on in this park."

With nothing but a locations to go off of and some brief scheduling with his partner, Charles had shown up at the park more or less at the same time as Alex. Since neither of them knew exactly WHAT they were looking for, they fell into similar patterns. That is to say, simply wandering the park. But having expected this much, the Blightbent felt he could pull some double duty with this as well, at least until one of them found their next lead. So he showed up in a tank-top and shorts, counting himself as one of the few joggers of McKinley Park for the time being. As he made his circuit and kept an eye out for whatever might exist, he did note just how many missing animal signs there were up. He knew his fellow Summer Courtier had said this was a reoccuring issue, but seeing all the missing posters up really helped him realize how much of an epidemic this was.

Another thing that he soon noticed was when a station wagon pulled up and offloaded a group of Changelings from its cabin. And it just so happened he knew every one of them. Well, all but one. The Elemental came up on them just in time to hear his green-skinned comrade get done speaking to them.

"Alex, and you had me thinking you were alone up until we bumped into each other. I would offer refreshments, but I wasn't aware there was a picnic happening today. Who's the stray?"

At the gate of the garden, a few bushes looked matted down right by a column on the side. The poor buds were crushed under the weight of someone's foot and several other flowers were missing petals along the tops of the bushes as Hank could surmise.

You can discuss this IC on how you'll ultimately proceed. If you decide to go through the gate, please make the appropriate roll at that point, or spend the WP.

"Looking-ah-around seems like-ah good place to start." Mhairi agreed.

Alex shows up and Mhairi has to wonder where Keith had gone. Maybe he'd drifted along with the winds as other will o' the wisps were prone to do. "Muggle side I-ah-I mean." says the elemental to Evelynn and Hank. Then to Alex. "Yeah our-ah-our pet-napper. Is a Frankenstein wannabe douche bag." she says with a slight growl. "Our-ah-our lintel says-ah that he-ah came here and-ah disappeared. So-ah-so thinking thorny get-a-way. But-uh maybe he left a clue or-ah something behind...."

Then she noticed the blightbent.

"Hello. Charles. Her name in Beccs. She's not-ah-a stray. She'd the lady who told us about the pet-nappings. And just how-ah-how did you-ah get involved in this?" she asks with an arched brow, crossed arms and a jutted hip.

"Keith got some kind of important call and had to take off, but Charles was already at the pound looking to do volunteer work. We talked with an employee there and got a lead. Two guys adopted a Havanese... that's a fancy small breed of dog... from the pound a few days ago." Alex consults his notebook... "The one who did all the talking and the paperwork was a clean-cut white guy... brown hair, blue eyes, beard... dressed in some kind of hipster business wear, a suit with short pants like you might see a model in GQ wearing. His partner stayed outside, hid his face with a hoodie. They drove off in a Prius. The staff aren't allowed to give personal info about adoptions, but they were clearly weirded out. And the dog was originally brought to the shelter after being found in this park. They say a lot of animals have gone missing here..."

Hank found it peculiar that the flowers were missing the petals, thinking to himself what it could possibly mean. As he thought though, Alex and Charles approached. He offered both of them a nod of his head. Listening to Mhairi and Alex speak Hank added, "all roads lead to here it seems. Can't be a coincidence. It also looks like someone trampled down bushes over there," he said, pointing to the bush disruption.
