Cross nods his understanding to Greenberg. "A good point, Priscus. Allow me to clarify. Maybe it's not about the physical territory, say Citrus Heights, so much as operational territory: resources, strategic capacities, information networks, spheres of influence. More and more, the physical presence of an actor is being replaced by its capacity for mobilization. Remove what was once a powerful player on the stage of the city and that 'territory' or excess capacity is up for grabs." He shrugs, "I'm just saying that someone will take it in hand. What it comes down to is resources, whether one group ignores another's authority or not."

In response to Greenberg's second point, Cross simply glances to the Shadow Priscus, letting him answer for his intentions. Cross had been asked how this new development would change the domain. And he'd given his answer.

Regan's response is tangled and cryptic to the Burned Man, but it does present some interesting angles. The desires and motives of a few can create effects, ripples, beyond their intention, and those effects can in turn become the cause of other, larger, effects and actions in turn. Given a long enough timeline, and all Kindred have the potential for very long time-lines indeed, even the smallest actions can have outsized results.

But it's the Shadow's mention of the vigilante group that really grabs Cross's attention. He's been hearing about them from all quarters, it seems. "This Maze...What did she have to do with Brady? And what kind of information did you 'liberate,' if you don't mind me asking, Priscus?"

What Joseph found interesting about david was the way he spoke. It was as if he viewed the world in an entirely different way than the ones around him. Maybe it was being a part of the Ordo Dracul. Or maybe it was just the man in general.

Then Joseph turned and listened to Cross' additional characterization of it all. Nodding his head along Joseph said, "I can certainly agree that someone will step up. It's only a matter of time."

Before he can ask more directed questions though, the issue of a group stepping into the void of focus is brought up. "That's quite disturbing that the name would be brought up by the attacker." A Kine mentioning a Kindred's name was always disturbing. He was going to ask her connection to Brady, but Cross did it for him. Was there a connection between the two? He wasn't sure really, but it was worth asking the historian. "I'm certainly curious as well about the connection."

Resources. Scarcity. That's the engine that drives the economy, except their economy is not illustrated by dead presidents. It is illustrated by something far scarcer: living vitae within and without the kine. Everything Cross name-checks is just another tool towards leveraging and having vitae. It shows who has and who doesn't in their world and from there, how easily boons can be repaid. In a word: power.

Cross's comments are accepted with a small nod in his direction and followed by the question that Cross and then Greenberg pose, David answers, “I was following a lead, a warning left by the kidnapped member of my order, the one later diablerized by one of the Brady Twins. Buried with the warning was a set of blueprints and on those blueprints was 'K.M. Realty.'

One of those tools in their economy? Information.

Drawing his lips into a thin line, David adds, “The locations in the blueprints were important and one of them led to the location of Straiphen. It seems that Maze was an information broker and probably had her fingers in quite a few pies. But information flows both ways. That said, she's been gone longer than I've made Sacramento home. She's just a name to me.” That's only one of the conclusions David can draw but it's probably the most obvious. When one puts their name out there to get information, a bit of them is left in the flow. “In any case, it was a few different caches of information: particular Kindred, Brood, and the like. It was moved to the Archon's Theater.

Cross frowns as the soft-spoken man with a seemingly inexhaustible memory enumerates the varied information possessed by Kristen Maze. Perhaps this person had long since left the city, but their legacy, and the dangerous archives they'd assembled, could still pose a threat to the Domain in the wrong hands. At the very least, a dossier assembled on different Kindred could provide knowledge, and targets, to the so-called Volunteers.

"Very interesting, Priscus. And very strange, these connections. Thank you for the explanation." It's all Cross has to say at the moment. He's trying to piece all of this together. It might serve to notify the Reeve of this connection as soon as possible, and see if we can't get a look at the materials stored at Twist's property...

His scarred brows are knit together in thought as blue, unblinking eyes stare at the table in front of him.

David's tale was a reminder that the world did not start and stop when Joseph arrived in town. There was a history that could be learned by those in the know and David was a good place to learn it.

Joseph put his hand to his chin as he thought. "It makes me wonder how the vigilantes got this name and why they're looking for her. Is it for the blueprints? Do they know what Maze was? So many questions are attached to these vigilantes." He wondered what could be found in the cache of information, or if it was the only copy.

I share some of those questions,” David says to the Nosferatu Priscus. And, certainly, the fact that Hunters are being so loud in their search for the Kindred says something too. Maybe the hunters are desperate or maybe the Kindred – like the now evacuated Brady Cadré – have been too loud as of late, causing the hunters to come to town. Did Brady leave them a mess to clean up on their way out? Questions to answer.

No problem, Sheriff. And,” David compliments, “you'd be a good Dragon if you chose to pursue our philosophy.” That said, the Mortician wonders if Robert Cross has given the Ordo Dracul thought as a place to grow. Mores the pity.

Looking over towards Greenberg, David asks, “Was there anything else to show me? I don't want to impose on your hospitality for too, too long.

As always, the questions outnumber the answers. Cross is too familiar with such situations to grow frustrated. Choose a line and follow it, see what turns up. If nothing does, choose another. Patience, endurance, and thoroughness. It's all you can do. Eventually the answers come. Or they don't. Just keep moving.

David's comment draws a surprised, and bemused, smile from Cross. This is a new one, being told he might make a good fit for the Ordo Dracul. No one's ever accused him of being particularly erudite. However, he's got other allegiances, other ideas, and from what he understands of their thinking, he's not sure the Order is his cup of tea. After all, Cross is interested in understanding and accepting his benighted state, not transcending it. But, he takes it as a compliment nonetheless, knowing that the Shadow is careful with his words. "Thank you, Priscus. I'll keep that in mind," he answers, gracious yet noncommittal.

When David turns to pose his question to Greenberg, Cross takes the opportunity to cast his eyes about the Annals once again. It truly is an impressive collection, even in it's initial stages. I'll have to come back on a quiet night, spend some time. The Domain of Sacramento, after all, has become his home. And knowing its history is a duty he is beginning to feel quite keenly.

Joseph nodded his head at the Priscus' statement. So many questions needed to be answered. Hopefully they wouldn't stay mysteries for long.

It was strange to hear David call Robert a good potential Dragon. Not necessarily because the burned man was a bad fit, but because it was so blatantly in front of Joseph, a known Invictus. Then again, he never suspected Robert was ever interested in the First Estate, so it didn't really change much.

At the question Joseph said, "Oh no you're not imposing at all. This is all I wanted to show you. That is, unless Sheriff Cross had any part of the Necropolis he wanted to show you." As he turned to look to Robert he smiled. No expectations of course, but he imagined the burned man may enjoy the opportunity to talk about security...or at least the aspects he could reveal without affecting the safety of the Necropolis.

If Robert has no place to show I'm fine closing soon.

Cross' acceptance is met only with a short nod of David's head with nothing more needing to be said on the point. Besides, in mixed company it's best to be simple and precise rather than the opposite. It seems like Cross would appreciate that in any case.

It's a great collection,” David reiterates off of Greenberg's comments, dull brown eyes dancing around him to underscore the compliment. Already, the Shadow Dragon's posture shifts, readying himself to be escorted from the Necropolis and it's expansive annals; feet preparing to slide beneath the gangly figure of a man. “I'm glad I'm not imposing.” Stealing a glance towards the Sheriff of the Necropolis, David listens for the Burned Man's answer before assuming that before long, he'll meet the fresh air of the above ground soon.

I'm ready to wrap up here, too!

Would you like me to pull out Jack's plans for the catacombs? Maybe show him what areas have been brought up to spec, what we're still working on? That way he can have a clear idea of what he's looking at when we do our walk through?

Cross isn't sure whether it's Greenberg's curse or something altogether more mundane, and insidious, that fosters mistrust in him. Either way, there would be no tour tonight.

He offers his Priscus an apologetic smile, looking between him and Regan, "Unfortunately, I have to be going myself, to attend to some other business before the night is through. I hope you'll forgive me." Adding: "Another time?" to the Shadow. His offer is a matter a politeness, he has no intention of fulfilling it. At least not as of now. Of course, he doesn't make that apparent.

"Thank you again for the background on Rhayna and Brady, Priscus Regan," and with that, he turns his attention back to Greenberg, "And thank you again for inviting me along, Priscus Greenberg, this has all been very enlightening."

Cross will wait until one of his betters stands, effectively dismissing him, before following them out.

Good to wrap as well. Thanks for the fun!
