(The Dark) Burning Times

For Katya, the flesh is willing but the spirit is weak. Dress doffed, wrapped in her hands, the Gangrel stands by the window as if frozen. Flames frame the window; smoke crowds the warm air; beyond the casement lies a vision of hell and within it David Silver dances with a burning wretch. The Beast howls in her ear. Unconsciously, she takes several steps back...

Inside the inferno, David attempts to herd the wretch. It is hard to herd a person writhing in their death throes when one's Beast is desperately trying to bolt and leave its meat body behind. In a burning building. Only an iron will is holding things together as the house creaks and yowls. The flames take hold!

Can David Silver make a roll: Dexterity + Athletics -2. The flames are all over now. And he is Mekhet.

Outside, Robert Cross and Alessandra prepare a space for the burning man, flattening earth, kicking up soil and clearing away accumulated debris and other things that might get in the way.

Kenneth took Regan’s silence as a negative.

“Thank you, I will be fine” he said to Stamford as Alice took the knife. Kenneth had also brought a weapon but it was in his car and they needed to get moving. “Let’s go.”

He walked with the group, keeping his eyes and ears open. Approaching the burning farm house, the howl of pain was distinct. To Gilroy’s horror he saw there were two people inside. The person that had apparently set the fire and Silver doing who knew what.

He checked the perimeter for any other accomplices or lurking threats. Seeing none and that the others were starting to prepare a spot to care for the man David was trying to save. A thought occurred to him.

“No, keep the level where it is.” he replied to Alice. They already had plenty of Kindred present and he didn’t want to endanger others in the Family if it could be avoided.

“I’ll be right back,” he said. He was fairly certain now that there were no other threats in the immediate area and Cross had already confirmed the cars were safe.

Kenneth opened the trunk and grabbed the first aid he kept there. He about ran back immediately but paused. He rummaged through the back some more. Grabbing his knife and the several heavy blankets he kept in case he needed an ‘emergency’ haven. He left the body bag where it was for now. If they came to need it, he’d get it then.

The insect then scurried back to the group.

“Lady Stamford,” he said holding out the first aid kit “It’s rudimentary but if the person inside is Kine it could help.” Not that he was expecting a miracle. Even with experience in emergency medicine, burn victims could very easily die from shock, smoke inhalation, blood loss, or infection. An eye was cast to Robert.

One blanket he put down where they had cleared the terrain of debris. The others he held out to who ever would take them. “Use them to smother any fire that may have caught on Silver or the other person,” he suggested.

Madness...that was the only word to describe what Silver was doing. The ventrue fought with her near panicking wasp which struggled to force her to flee from the inferno that was once a farmhouse. The person inside was likely insane to stay in the building after being the likely one to have set it.

She stood her ground a fairly safe distance away from the fire and kept an eye out for any additional trouble from other threats or waiting to assist people coming out of the burning structure. When Gilroy returned with supplies she took the medical kit and gave it a quick glance through noting which supplies it held and then handed it to her servant who had stepped forward without a word to collect it.

"Thank you, It should help if kine are involved," She said with a nod to the worm. Once that was said she continued her scan of the area.

[David Silver]

The flailing victim is a problem, a nuisance. They have information about what happened here, and he will not let it go to waste. Already the idea of a ventrue Brood dominating a victim into a suicidal assault comes to mind. But he needs proof. "Come! HERE!" David shouts, throwing his cloak over the person, pouring blood from his veins into his muscles, making them faster, quicker, surer. He was a Vampire, and he was going to use every trick of the blood to make this work. And then he was going to show everyone outside his courage.

He tries to catch the figure, but even with the quickened reflexes, the fire is too strong, too intense. And the flames are too close, too bright, too strong, and he must get away, he cannot stay. The Beast was right!
And David looses control, dropping the cloak and running to the window, ignroing his failure and ignoring his house, he must flee the Flames!

"Ave Satani!" Somewhere in the insane keening babble, the burning man utters one last coherent scream.

And then he falls into nothing. Into air and fiery vapours. He tumbles downward like a falling star and ends with a liquid thud, his burning bright shining the outlines of a carefully hidden trapdoor and tunnel...

But David Silver doesn't exactly see that.

The Beast screams. Fire burns! Frenzy follows.

Silver's howl joins that of the burning man.

David takes a total of 5 Aggravated damage from the fire (4 from the size and severity of the flames, +1 for Mekhet weakness).

The fleeing Beast - for that is all David Silver is right now - hurtles through the window like a burning missile.

Those by the window need to Resist Frenzy: Resolve + Composure, 3 success needed. No penalties - flaming Kindred should have been a reasonable assumption as a possible outcome.

[Robert Cross]

With his hearing pitched at that supernatural level available to all Kindred, Cross clearly hears the final pronouncement of the monster dying inside the house. If he could, given his dead flesh and the intense heat of the flames, he would shiver. The Brood... Not much scares the burned man, but the things he's heard, the stories that circulate about that Dark Sect...

There's no time for further consideration, though, because a frenzying David Silver has just come rocketing out of the flames. Cross struggles to contain the terror of his own beast through sheer force of will.

Inner-monster subdued, Cross moves to cut off Silver's escape. No need to have a raving Kindred on the loose after everything that's passed this evening. Memories of his recent adventure with Konrad replaying in his head. "Contain him!"

Cross will move to block David's escape if he can.

...and there it is. What a surprise, Victoria thought to herself as she watched the events unfold.

She had thought it was a horrible idea to burst into the structure when it was that far gone. The end result was so expected that she wasn't phased at all as the flaming mekhet flew from the structure, in fact she looked slightly bored and didn't appear to be effected in the least by a risk of frenzy herself. With a sigh Victoria snatched up the blanket and made her way toward the others with the intent to put the fire out if she wasn't too late and to use her powers to bring either David Silver out of frenzy or any others that may fly into it because of his continued actions.

"Grab him. Here, use this!" she said indicating the blanket.
