Varyx's Seer Glimpse

The night is dark, the heat thick and sultry, the air still and suffocating. The windows are open, but the breeze is so scant that the curtains don't move.

Varyx is stretched out on the bed, nude in what appears to be an attempt to escape the suffocating heat, but she knows better. He is coming. He will see her. He will want her. And she will have power.

There is a laptop open in front of her, resting on the pillows while she writes an article for tomorrow's news. It's false, of course, but it doesn't matter. People will pay attention to the report, and ignore the retraction that follows. They want to be offended and entertained, not right. Besides, twist the retraction in the right way, and even those who care about the "truth" will still be eating out of her hand, in the end. Her thoughts are elsewhere, though, following Him through the building, a smile appearing on her face once she realizes He is finished with the debate and is on His way upstairs to her.

She belongs to Him. That had been her choice - serve one of her new Hegemonic masters, or die. She had chosen to serve. In a manner of speaking. The choice had been made long ago, now, and it felt like service less every day.

He walks into the room, shedding His shirt as the door closed, and Varyx sits up from her position on the bed, her gaze following Him as He crosses the room towards her. She moves the laptop and shifts her position to welcome Him onto the bed with her, her arms opening for Him.

He groans and collapses forward onto the bed, his head coming to rest against her chest. Her fingers seek out the tension in His shoulders, nails raking through His hair while she whispers sweet things, dirty things, into His ear. Because He trusts her, now. She, the loyal, loving pet, would never betray Him. His humanity hasn't been shed entirely, and He, like anyone else with a beating heart, needs a confidante. He could not trust his fellows, back-stabbing and power-seeking as they were. It was easier, then, to believe that the powerless once-Pentacle mage was safe. It was easier to trust someone who hadn't the power to betray that trust.

Her magic soothes His worries, calms Him, relaxes Him, as much as her body does. And the spiders, they do eat.

And soon enough, he will belong to Her. And the world will be at Her feet.
