July leaned back in his chair and took another sip of his coffee. "I haven't been to the location and didn't do a long distance post-cog. It's the Raley's Supermarket located at [address]. If you wanted to check it out from what I understand her car was found in the middle row right in front of the entrance about five cars back on the left side. Eva said Carly left the house about 5 pm two days ago and the last call that actually got through was about 5:45 pm that same day. Any calls after that went straight to voicemail. Now obviously the car's not there anymore, Eva got it back to the house but left everything the way it was so maybe some of Carly's stuff is in the car."

At the mention of mapping out the location July added, "I didn't map it out, but, well. See I know I said the responding officer only made a simple report, but I actually got a lot of my info from a contact I have in the police department. He said a Detective Perrett was obsessing about the disappearances. Doing all this extra research after hours. Said all the snatches happened in locations without video cameras and in public areas, so I guess that's one thing in common. I got his number if you want it."

Looking to Truce July said, "Once I realized how big this case was I backed off to reach out to others. She hasn't given me any of her stuff but If you want to talk to her I can give you her address or phone number."

He took another sip of his coffee. "I'll be honest, I'm not sure what's going on, but when thirty-eight people go missing in our town I start to worry it's more than meets the eye, and the police don't exactly have the kind of knowledge or means that we do. If there's something supernatural going on then it's a major threat to the Consilium and I'd like to stop that. If it's not supernatural I'd want to stop it anyway."

"I mean, if Perrett's done legwork, we should totally see it." A nod bobbed at the others. Are you good? Want a drink? Over-enunciated words were mouthed silently at Truce . "To, you know."

Patterns. Because there usually are, yo. Not because life is an Acanthus manifesto, but because when people make choices? There are usually reasons. True story.

"You guys want, to, ummm." Hands went on hips. Split up? How... "Okay, how about this."

"Me and Truce will go see Perrett. Since Truce is a, uh, forensic psychologist. Maybe he can figure something out from the vics. Avis, you and, uh. You can check for Symp and, uh, the, uh, the dog, I dunno. Can find a sock to, uh. Get a scent."

Avis pulled a face and stared at Star for a good several seconds before shrugging and slumping further into her chair.

"Fine, whatever. We'll go deal with the vic's mom and try to get some sympathy while putting up with having to give sympathy. Though it'd be helpful if you have any of the other vics' addresses. If there's nothing intimate to find somewhere, then I'd at least like something to cross reference to confirm that something's stripped away the intimates everywhere."

Truce is uncertain whether to answer in the negative or affirmative to Star's subtle questions. He shakes his head gentle in a silent 'no', hoping to convey that he is fine.

A buddy system would work well though. And splitting up would save time and Avis is the ideal candidate to sort through the sympathy. "I agree. We can keep in contact as we uncover more information," he says, looking to Star.

To July he says, "If you could call ahead to Detective Perrett to let him know that civilian specialists are volunteering to assist him, I think that should suffice." Truce isn't sure how receptive he'll be to their use of Shadow Names but he supposes they could use the excuse that we wish to remain anonymous.

To Avis he says, "We'll try to get more information about the other victims to share once we reconvene." Or at least that's what he thinks Star is trying to say.

Flidais listened with attentive eyes falling on the other magi, the dog did much the same, just with far less comprehension.

"That makes sense. If we get a physical trail to follow at some point or something like that, an article to scent would come in handy." Flidais said in response to Star, assuming her name was now just 'uh' as in Stars mind.

"Well I can definitely call the guy and give him a heads up that people will be looking for him. Best way not to spook him. We seemed to get along last time I spoke to him so I'm sure he'll be pretty open to meeting and showing you what he's got so far. Hard for him to spend too much time on the case since he has his other workload as well." Cops will be cops and in this city that meant a caseload that would make people think of Lucille Ball and pies. July wasn't sure why the guy was so committed to the case, but then again, he hadn't asked.

"I can let the mom know you're coming as well," he said looking between Avis and Flidais. "She's surprisingly forthcoming about it all, which is good. Though maybe a little too forthcoming. Hopefully she has something you can use for a connection." Whether that's smells or sympathy.

A subtle hint of enthusiasm was punctuated with a nod-nod of the mop-mop.

"Like one of those tee-vee shows. Yeah, totally. Like that, uh, that show where they do the lies? Or, wait, no. Elementary. Dang. Does that make me Watson? Since your'e the psychologist? Am I Watson? Whatever. It's all good. This week, on See Ess Eye Supernal..." Or ~~Turner~~ Desirae and Hooch. Take your pick. "Okay. So. That's a plan? Everyone good? Let's do it."

A glance downward at the tuxedo.

"I, uh. I may, like, change. First."

"Sure. Cause if they have the magic to cleanse sympathy, they'd definitely leave a scent trail lying around," Avis deadpanned as she slid to her feet. "You have a car, right?" she added, turning to Flidais. "I really don't want my van to get all, I don't know, doggy. It's not a doggy style van."

Nothing Last Starfighter and the Incredible Shrink can't handle, thinks Truce with a soft smile.

"I think we'll have to both play Sherlock, since neither of us are army doctors," as far as he knew. "But I think we're good to go. I guess Missing Persons would be covered by the Sacramento Police Investigations Bureau. I'll meet up with you there, Star."

Truce pulls out his smartphone. Even though July can probably give them the detective's office location, Truce will be able to use a search engine for the address.
