That rang a bell. A faint bell. Did Avis remember? Wide eyes and open hands punctuated a Totally Harmless expression. They probably weren't needed. Some people just don't have to work hard to look harmless, yo.

It doesn't take a master of psychology to realize that the trio of students don't get what the hell Avis is talking about. “We stand for not getting our asses beat. Like we have been for years.” There's a vague accusation lingering in the background of the lead-girl's voice. They remain completely unaware of the greater world and that includes the greater Awakened world.
Without the network of Awakened or the network of anything, these people have been charged with doing everything themselves; including protecting themselves. College campuses are certainly their own little towns, betimes isolated from the rest of the city.
Despite the bravado, there's an underlying fear July can feel in them. Coiled and ready to run away; because running is natural and running keeps them breathing and out of the infirmary.
“We don't know who you are. We thought we felt people like you before.” Her teeth clench, “But you didn't help us then and you say you are gonna help us now? After we and others have been the ones getting our asses beat because we ain't gonna fall in line with these assholes?”
The other girl nudges the lead-girl into quiet. The other girl's eyes pleading to run from these strange people.

It was fucking tragic. Here these kids were, at College, but they were too traumatized by the violence, both physical and ideological, to really understand what was happening to them. They were too beat down to recognize that they were experiencing just another manifestation of oppression, just another corner of their cage, just another chain in the tapestry of bondage and subjugation.
Hopefully, their scars didn't harden them entirely to awakening fully to the Truth.
"The fight is larger than just this campus. But what's important is that we're here, now, and that together we all can make this stop. We can't support you, though, or you support us, if we don't talk. Get on the same page. So let's go somewhere else. Your choice, or ours, and we can share information."

His eyes were focused. If they ran, would he shoot or give chase? He felt his guns heavy, wishing to reach out to exert authority, but instead he held his hands palm out in a sign of nonaggression. We may not trust each other, but it seems we all have the same enemy and that's what matters." The enemy of your stranger is you enemy? They weren't his enemy, yet, but it was close enough for July.
“Talk? Where were you a year ago? Or three?” The lead-girl accuses via clenched teeth, her throat tightened. Bravery comes even in the face of immense fear. These people could just be more of Them. A word used when the noun was never taught and the vocabulary never shows up on SAT exams.
“We don't care about the quote larger world. This is our world. This is our home.”
A glance up towards the darkened Frat house.
“Either help us do what we came here to do or get out of our way.”

Honestly?
A year or three ago they'd probably been circle jerking to Another Trial For Striker. Entitlement and indignation is sooooooo annoying, yo, but that doesn't mean it's not always unwarranted.
"Hey. Well. We're here now, maybe. And I only, like, say maybe because we have no clue about," here come the finger quotes, "'What you came here to do'."
Brrrrr. So. Ominous.
"So I'll make you a deal. Tell us the plan? Then we'll either help or bounce. If we help, you can decide if we, like, got any credibility. Figure that's a win-win for you, right?"

Avis nodded, agreeing to what Star proposed, though a frown crested her features. This was going to be difficult. Stubbornness and ignorance were never a pleasant combination, but in a war of opposing ideologies it was lethal. Hopefully they would be able to convince them to stand down when the time came....
They were young, and as teenagers and college kids usually are they viewed their world as much bigger and more important than it really was. If only they realized how vast the real world was, they'd feel insignificant in comparison. His face was serious as they requested help, and before he could respond Star had stepped in. He looked at his cabalmate sideways, keeping his body focused at the kids, but when he finished July added, "what he said." Maybe this would lead to new and unlikely allies.
“They,” explains the girl, who still hasn't given a name, “lost some of their bigwigs. A couple of professors who had extra curricular of their own. And unlike any respectable professor, they weren't fucking their students in the normal way.” She shrugs, “They just up and died one day. The Resistance thought it's a good start and we're not gonna look a gift-horse in the mouth.”
There's more than just these little baby magi around. That's the big take-away here.
“We're gonna go in and kidnap Mark. The Frat President.” Mark is the mark. It's almost ironic.
Honestly, the girl would make a good Guardian. “We need information and how much they know about the Resistance so we can counter and take them out.” Are they ready to kill though? Or just make it so the Banishers can't hurt them? It's hard to say.
The trio probably haven't asked themselves that.

Nature? It abhors a vacuum.
Sometimes violently. Filling a vacuum isn't always grass slowly growing back over salted earth. Sometimes it's a deafening sonic boom. Most people know what a sonic boom is, but they don't really know What It Is. And these three? The sonic boom filling the vacuum of Edgemont and Williams.
"Is that what you call yourselves? The Resistance?" Long fingers fanned out in a 'Pause' gesture. "I'm not, like, cracking on it. Just making sure. Tell you what. I think that's a baller plan. We're in. We've got questions for Marky Mark about the Funky Bunch, too."
Sounds about right.
"So. Ball's in your court. Tell us how we can help slash what you want us to do."
Like the way Plucky Chick thinks, yo. Heck of a month for possible Guardians.
