Aw, man.

Pop Quiz: Should a Guardian of the Veil and slash or magician be good at skulking? Hiding? Probably. Jack of All Trades, competent at none. It was on the To-Do list. Learn to skulk. Honestly. Somewhere above Learn To Ride A Unicycle and somewhere below... well, whatever else he'd spent his time on.

Probably should have put that above Learn to Prune Bonsais.

But it wasn't the end of the world. Maybe just the end of the light. Features screwed up in visible distaste as the Angel touched the Darkness, weaving from the coldest, deadest Tower ever. Ewwww. Shadows thickened and darkened around him, hopefully compensating for his Covertile Dysfunction.

July knew the importance of following them but he didn't want to trigger the novice's unseen senses, so he tried to do things the old fashion way. They were already jittery enough and he didn't want to spooky thwm. Note to self: look into Prime at some point.

He looked down at himself and realized he hadn't planned on sneaking around and stupidly hadn't dressed for it either. While his cabalmates did their best ninja impressions July did his best impression of a lumbering giant, obvious and completely conspicuous. He knew that if they saw, which they most certainly would, the chase would be on.

Cold darkness, moves and undulates at Star's fingertips. There's no such thing as complete darkness anymore, what with Light Pollution, reflections, and the stars and moon over head. Not unless he sits in the bowels of the earth, but there is enough to slither and snake around him like smoke given will and form.

Dark Shadows falls to complete darkness per mechanics of spell.

Avis is nothing but an unheard shadow trailing after the trio. So is Star and as they move in tandem, they can hear harsh-whispering become words they can hear.

“Hurry up, who knows when they'll be back.”

“Did they all peace out?”

“Fuck if I know. But with everyone fucked because of dillweed's death...”

But, it happens like in the movies and it would have been comical if everyone wasn't on edge. A twig beneath the lawman's feet snaps and the sound of it is louder than a gun-shot.

The young man, who was gearing up to heft the girls over the fence catches his breath and snaps his attention at the three approaching Magi. The other two catch their friend's look and turn, slowly towards the threats; no recognition fluttering across their faces. It's that very moment where a choice is being made, fight or flight; question or run.

While there were many variations upon the "Oh shit!" face, Avis was finding that the finer points of it were lost in the dark. So, only having a phantom idea of what was really going on, she stopped moving, put her hands up, fingers splayed carefully and said:

"Easy, now. We want to talk."

Maybe, just this once, that would actually help...

They are barely a step above Hedge Witches but in the Dark, none of the threats can see the fear that burns in three pairs of eyes. They've been here, at this University – some of them for years – and they expect certain things.

One reaches over to their friend, urging them to go.

But, false-bravado wins because it is the three of them or none of them.

“You Rhoda's people?” The ash-blond hair accuses through clenched teeth.

Two ships pass in the night, neither one knowing where the other is going.

This was what happened when your Intel was several months old.

Thankfully, however, Avis knew enough: Rhoda wasn't a member of the Consilium. That made her and her people Outlaws, just like the kids before them. Except the kids were before them, and for now, talking. That made a big difference.

"Easy. Like, I said, we want to talk. We want to make the persecution stop," she replied softly, cautiously moving forwards, hands still held up. "We stand for knowledge and growth, not beatings and hate. What about you?"

They were on a damn college campus. Hopefully, those three would agree.

Avis spoke up, but July's eyes were watching. What would they do. Would the guns come out? The boy's whisper catches his interest and he looked for any cues that they were going to run.
