Frats and Sororities are facets of college life. On the one hand, they give lonely, isolated college kids a sense of belonging, a ready-made network, and a group of friends. Not too dissimilar from the Night Societies that prowl through the world. On the other hand, they provide echo-chambers, yes-men, singular modes of vision that lead to narrow minded thought. Also, not too dissimilar from the Night Societies.

In the van, the Veiled Threats see their targeted house. Spring is in the air, carrying with it the sweet scent of new grass and pollen that will drive allergies wild. This house is quiet, freshly manicured lawns and bereft of red-party cups.

    Apparently the party is elsewhere.

A black drape of mourning dresses the front door and sways gently in the breeze.

Another fraternity down the road is the source of hoots and hollering tonight, releasing the stress of another class-week along with the anticipation of on-coming graduation.

Nearby, a shrub shuffles in the breeze.

Two shirts are almost as useful as a towel.

That's not in Hitchhiker's, but it's True. Especially for a night like this one. Like a mullet, it's all business and all party. When it's time for business, pull off the upper shirt and voila: Stealthy Black. Then take the top shirt and...

    "Urrrrgh."

He shifted in the van's seat, trying to find a position where it didn't hurt. Everything's Fun 'n Games until there's a little Backlash. Sprinkle in having to re-work an Imago and there's the perfect recipe for Sore 'n Cranky. Long fingers coaxed a stick of gum from a bit of foil and made it disappear. Cinnamon, yo.

"Did someone die? That door thing. Anyway. We could still roll up and run 'Grandma's Ring'. Or go check that."

A chin that only Bruce Campbell, and maybe Avis, could love jutted down the street.

As July sat back in the van, relaxed and waiting, his guns pressed heavy against him. Would he need them today? The black on the door made him think someone must have died. Would another? Regardless he was ready with his shield and sight.

What the hell did 'Grandma's Ring' mean? He decided to ask fate for some help. Why make a snap decision alone when you can seek out the golden threads to guide you. His connection didn't feel strong, but he felt it connect. He asked for something in his destiny to help them decide if the party was worth checking out.

Vice: Color drains from Avis and her facial features seem indistinct and grainy, as though her identity is growing less defined.
Virtue: Colors appear more vibrant and everything seems to become grander in scale.

Avis wasn't dressed like someone that would be at a party. Black sweats, black hoody, and a pony tail pulled through the back of a baseball cap completed her stakeout/kidnapping look. Not she imagined anyone would get to see it. That was why there were sitting in a van, after all, and not trying to infiltrate the party again.

Or...that's what she had planned on. That probably was a mistake.

"Well look, he's gotta stumble home drunk sometime, right? I mean, even if that's not tonight, we're willing to be patient aren't we?"

As July knows, chance and flukes are the results of convergences. Happy accidents that might also throw a wrinkle into plans, because no plan survives contact. Contingencies, however, do. It doesn't take long for the Threats to realize that a monkey wrench has been tossed into their plan already.

In the darkness, doing an apparently terrible job of hiding, are a couple of students; eyes trained on the building with clear intent.

One, the apparent leader of the trio, is a young student girl – ash blonde hair, a runner's physic, skinny jeans and a black jacket. The others another girl and a guy, the girl with a jacket hoodie over her head but strands of hair piling out and the other a guy with a sharp profile.

Focusing on the trio, realization dawns that the threats aren't the only magic in the air. There's more magic nearby: hasty, cobbled together, uncloaked, and unrefined.

They don't pay any attention to the van and the hooded girl glances at a phone. The leader immediately dives on the light to stifle it.

Eventually, they too begin moving towards the house.

    "Is that Asp?"

He leaned forward, looking at the trio and focusing on the blond runner.

"Huh. Okay, no. Dang, they're moving..."
Right as he was getting ready to Peep them. Feel that? Fingers idly scratched an arm. Three's not a great number. Well, okay, it's great if there's three of Them and Seven of us. But three on three? "Come on."

Sometimes there's no time to Plan and you just gotta jump in. Eyes found Avis, then July, and the Angel opened the van and hopped out.

Fate could be both frustrating and intriguing. Would July have noticed the three new suspects were it not for fate? Did his actions influence their actions in some unknown way that changed everyone's destiny in the are?. They were answers he would never truly have, but that wasn't important now.

Looking to Star it was clear the man had also noticed the students, so July checked his guns and joined the Angel outside of the van. No words were needed. It was clear they were winging it now.

"Asp might not be able to sneak worth shit, but she was bulkier than that," Avis replied to Star before he hopped out of the van. Not that she honestly thought he had mistaken the leader for their errant cabal mate, but it never hurt to make sure you were on the same page. Hence we she whispered, "let's shadow them," to Star and July before she set off across the street to sneak after the nefarious trio.

Casitive What roll would you like to Shadow/Stealth after the three college magi?

Body language of harsh-whispers come from the trio, as they stop by the fence and look up. The young man, with them meshes his fingers together and offers the hands so that the girls can hop the fence. They hesitate, they don't look as though they make it a habit of breaking into houses owned by the university – which is the obvious thing they look like they are doing.

Colleges are like cities in a miniature and this includes the general bubble feeling, where the outside world, other cities, don't apply or matter. Islands within Islands.

Watching body language, estimating line of sight, moving around fenced off compounds, all were things she had done before, and Avis found herself slipping back into those habits as comfortably as anything else that she did...
