Eyes flick sideways to look at Emrys. Dude that's not how first impressions should start. As everything is handed over at the check point Arthur can't help but shake his head. Bringing the wand here was a mistake in general.
"Which ever makes more sense to Will." Totally not it for telling the officer they want to see the women's side.
"So fairly boring then? Or does routine never really get boring here?" An honest question from Arthur, so much control.

Woops.
Hands immediately slid into the pockets of his coat as he realized he mixed up Officer Jackson's name. This is why he didn't practice social sciences anymore.
"Let's start with the ladies." He said, trying to keep it as simple as possible. "Do you ever have trouble with the inmates? Like, fights or stand offs between them or them and you? How do you deal with those sorts of situations?"
Like two inmates dying in custody.
“Boring is good,” The corrections officer tells Arthur, “it means everyone is busy and things are copacetic. Excitement is bad. When there's excitement, inmates and officers end up in the infirmary. Despite what they,” A bop of the head towards the men in orange, “believe, we're here to protect them, even from themselves. I like boring.” The Officer concludes stoically. He's right, too, after a fashion.
Jackson even seems to believe that.
Taking a turn, Jackson leads the pair through a heavy locked door and into the women's half of the facility. It's much like the men's with white-concrete walls, heavy doors, and imposing tables. But the people in orange are women.
Some are burly. Others have dead-eyes. Most of them begin catcalling Arthur with shouts of “Handsome!” Along with whistles. Another shout-asks if that's someone's lawyer and to hook her up with that. These women are not shrinking violets and maybe, making the slick-smiling man uncomfortable is a bit of a thrill.
“That's enough ladies!” Jackson's heavy voice bellows.
Answering Emrys' second question, Jackson says, “We've taken a lot of negotiations training. Restraint is a last resort, but we have to be ready for that too. If there's a fight in progress, we have to assure our own safety then try to break things up. Split-second decision making is key, here.”

Open questioning plays across Arthur's face as Officer Jackson explains why boring is good. Then recognition wins and Arthur nods. "Hadn't thought of that." Everyone one hanging around not causing problems does sound a lot safer.
The Theurgist absentmindedly looks around as Officer Jackson leads them into the women's half of the jail. Those eyes push Arthur back, eyes like those don't do good things. The catcalling though, that causes Arthur to pull back into himself as the group walks. Officer Jackson's booming voice pulls Arthur out and the Theurgist looks at Emrys before focusing on the path out of this place.

"That sounds like a lot of work with a lot of focus." Eyes stay on the path out of here. "How often do fights break out? You all seem to have this facility well controlled."
Step, step, step, are the doors closer yet?

Emrys nodded along with the officer, absently registering the catcalls. Arthur's discomfort came before his own, but then Arthur was the one being targeted.
"That's good when you have such a sensitive population." Emrys said looking from the officer to Arthur and back again. "What about self harm? Are the inmates in any danger from themselves? I heard a news report from a two years ago a pair of University students committed suicide or something. Do you know anything about where and how that went down?"
Eyes continued to study the guard as much as his surroundings.
“Yeah, that shit was weird,” a beat, remembering himself and looking at Emrys, “sorry.” As they walk, there's a couple of jail cells that are shown, rec-rooms, and the outside locations for the female sexes. “So, we had a couple. Man. Woman. They had their own cells. Visitors, the same two showed up to see them – lawyer-y type, you know?”
The larger man's mind moves through a memory. “So neither one show up for dinner. The men's side finds the guy first, dead, just dead. No sign of foul play, nothing. Not even a guy who jerked himself to death.”
Again, the corrections officer stops himself, “Sorry.”
“Then, about fifteen minutes later the women's section tells us that the girl's dead too. Same thing. No one can remember what their lawyer visitor looked like.”

A flicker of a grin passes over Arthur as the Officer slips and sounds human. Shoulders stay tucked as they are shown more of the women's facilities. Eyes flick to Officer Jackson followed by Arthur's head. "Why did they have their own cells?" Emrys had probably said something about why earlier.
Not remembering what they look like though? Mind can do that. I can do that. Well shit.
"Did the cameras catch anything?" Arthur doesn't bother to motion towards any of the cameras in line of sight. This is a prison. Cameras are going to be everywhere. Aw shit I can do that too.

"It's cool." Emrys said after the second apology. "It's not an easy thing to talk about, so if it's to much just say so and we can move to another topic."
His eyes took on their own apologetic glint before continuing.
"That being said, could we possibly see the cells they were being held in? It would help us to see the conditions they were in firsthand, make sure the problem wasn't with the institution when we do our write up."
Looking at Arthur funnily, the Officer answers, “Well, one is a man and the other was a woman.” It's pretty obvious from where he stands and he's a little surprised that Arthur didn't realize that gender segregation is a real thing in the corrections system. Clearing his throat he continues, “Cameras didn't catch anything. Especially since there's no cameras in the cells themselves. Lawyers left, went through security and when they didn't show we found them dead.”
He lets them fill in the blank.
“Yeah, sure. This way.”
