    Ermac

Ermac stepped up to the Karaoke machine. The light reflected off his lens searching for a Metallica song. He shook his head going down the list, biting his lower lip, rather uncertain of what he could sing.

Then the lead in, his head nodding in sync the instrumentals.
"Guilty as charged but damn it, it ain't right," the I.T.brimos had paced back and forth with the display within his view.

"This can't be happening to me," Ermac stood with the mic in his hand, a fist punched skyward. He shouted with thunderous echo as if challenging the Exarchs directly, "Who made you God to say I'll take your life from you?"

The Theurge held out a hand before him, wriggling his fingers as if he actually was holding a flame. He very well could do it. It was just a bad idea. "I can feel the flame!"

As the music died down, he grinned, and placed the mic back where it belonged. Back to being the quiet geek.

Well shit, that was going to be rough to follow up but it didn't look like anyone else was stepping up.

The Enchanter went back up to the machine, scanning tracks by Van Halen. So many choices, but only one that felt like it was needed on a karaoke night. He pressed play and approached the mic, head bobbing like his predecessor's as the keyboard kicked in.

"I get up! And nothing gets me down!" It felt weird, to feel the passing of each second and be able to time your voice but still be completely unable to hit a note. Cracks and off key attempts at singing continued to characterize Emrys's singing style, despite his attempts to 'perfectly' time his singing. Fortunately he seemed to be enjoying himself at least, even if everyone else might avoid handing him a mic ever again.

"Jump!" A few minutes passed, and the word was repeated as the music faded. Emrys took a deep breathe, replaced the microphone and returned to his seat.

Laughter, a few fist pumps, and yells rang out to accompany the others.

Round two? Looks like people are getting into it. The song choices -- hilarious. Obrimos gotta do lightning, and Emrys' other options were probably singing about Panama or being Hot For Teacher.

Picture Emrys and Einstein. Just take a moment.

    Done?

Still. Laughing. Nobody's imagining her in her robe playing Sorting Hat with fresh faced Emrys Weasley.

When it was his turn, fingers flickered over the selections. Slowly. This song? Gotta think about it. Remember it. It's not on anyone's playlist. Too old school. Too slow. Too... something. Lounge. That's what it is. A lounge with a grey haired man at a Vegas piano.

    "Company, always on the run..."

The lyrics drifted out, gaining strength as the music strained. Good, not great, but you try anyway because Those Were The Rules.

Aw yeah. Avis could dig it. Ermac was fuckin' rockin' it, even if the glasses did get in the way of some serious head banging. The lightning theme was a bit cliche, maybe, but he felt it, and that meant she could feel it too. Fire of Will, that was what it was all about, for her. So, as the I.T.brimos made his way back to the couch, Avis stretched a fist out, offering a companionable bump with a smile.

Emrys...Emrys was harder to cheer for. Not because he was missing notes, or cause he was Emrys, but because of the song choice. She could have sworn Van Halen wasn't that damn pop-y, but maybe she was just fooled by name. Either way, Emrys was still giving it all he got, so he deserved the same in return. A slap of skin in high five form was offered as he left the stage.

Then Star was up, singing of conflict and honor. Not as the Arrow knew it, of course. It was the Lie wrapped in a myth, but she could understand the weariness in the lyrics, and in the singers voice. Odd, since she usually thought of Star as possessing a sort of humming energy, subtly dancing behind his eyes. Of course, such energy could be transformed into anything. Even a shroud which hid itself.

She met him halfway as he crossed from the stage, giving a shoulder bump as she headed to the mic, feeling inspired to take on whatever July had given her. She liked the title. Sounded like somethin' punk. That was why when the drums kicked off, a totally confused look crossed her face, and she fumbled the first lyrics. This was completely not what she was expecting, the disconnect between expectation and reality jarring her lyrics out of rhythm.

With a grunt, she cut off and just stood there for a moment, trying to get a feel for the song before the next chorus. And, once it came up, she began to belt into the microphone, the words rough and edging towards a growl. Also, towards the phlegm. Ironic, since apathy was the furthest thing from her mind. Especially not when she had to sing "I'm a mother". There was no way she could sing that calmly, or as bouncy as the original artist apparently did.

Each one stood and each one did their thing, followed by applause. Seeing Ermac singing Metallica was certainly an enjoyable experience. Hard rock always got a person in the mood to break things but he controlled that particular impulse tonight. No reason to kill the mood by pulling a Thor

And Emrys' song gave him flashbacks of his older brother's strange addiction to hair metal growing up. He didn't have many fond memories of childhood but that was certainly one of them, though Emrys' bad singing certainly put a damper on the enjoyment of the memory. Nevertheless July gave him applause as a friend should.

Now with Star's song, July couldn't remember ever hearing. Star certainly did a fine job singing it, but July had no memory to compare it to. Didn't mean he enjoyed it any less.

Finally, he thoroughly enjoy Avis's growling edgy version of Bitch. Of course Avis had to put her own spin on the song, though the fact she waited made July wonder if she had ever heard it before...which was convenient because July had only heard Crazy once or twice because of a former partner. He could remember the rhythm but not all the words. Thank god for the prompter. As the words came on the screen he sang, "I remember when. I remember, I remember when I lost my mind..."

If there was something July wasn't very good at, it was singing. It was especially clear when his drunk self tried to hit the high note at "does that make me crazy?"

Luckily the alcohol kept him from being truly ashamed of how bad he'd done as he walked back to his seat.

The grin grows as Ermac rocks some Metallica. Aw yeah fire and lightning. Arthur claps as his Ermac and then Emrys finish their songs. Good old Van Halen, ah well maybe Bad Company was a bad pick.

Nope definitely a good pick. Another round of applause as Star finishes off the song. An eyebrow raises as Avis's song kicks off and who's Meredith Brooks again? The grin returns as Avis dives into the song giving it a rougher edge that Arthur was growing to expect from the Mastigos. Head bobbing begins and sticks through all of Crazy. Even as July does his best but hey Officer's can't be expected to be singers. Rising as July finishes the song Arthur holds out a fist for a bump as he takes the stage.

Cycling through to the song, number two actually. Drunk karaoke guess what gets picked first. Hitting play the grin spreads just a bit more.

"Just a small town girl" Arthur plucks the mic from its stand. Then leans into the next verse. "Livin' in a lonely world"

A hand extends and sweeps across the stage, foot taping to the beat. "Strangers waiting. Up and down the boulevard"

Finishing at "Hold on to the feeeeeliiiiin'" Arthur holds onto the last word before letting the song fade. Taking a breath the mic gets placed back and he hops off the stage.

Passing a fist bump to Avis, Ermac sat in enjoyment of his Cabal. It was a chance to step away from their frequent troubles and enjoy living just for a night. "Awesome singing everyone!"

    Oh, that song.

Funny, it hadn't pinged when July had said it. But two seconds in, and there it is. Some lines are funny... some aren't. The ones that aren't? Make the smile go plastic-y. It's a good pick. The smile is real by the time it's over and fingers reached out to a small pale hand, pulling Avis down to the couch.

"You're my angel undercover," the words sang out softly around a grin.

Eventually, the grin became laughter as July tried to hit the high notes. That? Great idea. Next time someone was totally getting Mariah. Or Debbie Harry.

A shoulder leaned as Arthur began singing about trains.

    Everything starts somewhere.

Hands applauded as the singing wrapped up.

Good to wrap if anyone wants to tack final posts?
