For now, they were on the right path, but that path was also leading them to an unknown. It could be anyone, or anything at this point. The only thing that was certain was that it was on two legs and slowly going to intersect them on the path.
Whomever it was whistled as they approached, the song was probably known by some, others maybe not.

Dexterity"Ah, so it's whistling now," Coco muttered with violent anticipation under her breath. "I've already slain one kidnapper with a penchant for making such noise. It seems we're about to meet another."

Yep, this is gonna be fun....
Lynn kept well back from Ramona and Coco, giving them both room to fight. She didn't think that anybody who was wandering around whistleing, had anything to do with Mrs. Rosemary's disappearance, but maybe they could give them a clue as to what had happened.

Slain?
The word was enough to make the Fairest pause for a second. He didn't say anything as he once again began to move, but the space between him and Coco widened as the space between him and Ramona narrowed. It was in that moment he realized what he was likely about to do with the machete in his hands, and the thought was almost enough to cast the infernal thing aside. What stopped him was the knowledge that this was a part of his life now. They would never go away, and They were always looking for more souls to cast into the Briars and beyond.
Milo wasn't going back, and neither was Ms Rosemary.

Coco has killed people before. It's not a particularly shocking realization. Ramona's done her fair share of killing. More, some would say. She files it away, another data point in her mental profile for the Wasp, and continues to focus on the task at hand.
If they were close enough to hear this other being's footsteps, surely they were making enough noise to be heard in turn. Whoever is whistling, it's because they are unconcerned. That could be bad. "Let me go first," she suggests quietly to Coco. "If I get hit, at least you can follow up." The wasp is surely quick, but the ogress is certain that she is more sturdy. With a shield to hide behind to boot. If anyone needs to take a hit, it should be her.
Unless the Wasp objects, Ramona edges out in front, and proceeds swiftly along the trail. Maybe they can cut off the whistler, whoever they are. Get to the intersection first, have the better position.
If there are actions to be taken right now, Ramona would be on Full Defense for the moment.
As they rounded a corner toward a crossing, the one who was currently whistling came upon them.
Abruptly, the whistling stopped. He had a staff in his hand, at the end of it a small soft stopper. The staff was longer than his body, he stood only about 4ft 11in. Definitely shorter than the entire group at hand. His hat was beyond well worn, his clothes were certainly out of date and his hair was a long curly wreck. But he stopped suddenly and pointed the end of his staff at them, eyeballing them and studying the lot of Changelings. His head slightly bobbed forward, his curious little eyes trying to make out what was going on. The whistling ensued while he studied, but a different tune, very slow and possibly unrecognizable.

Lynn frowned in concentration, the tune sounded familiar but she couldn't quite place it. It wasn't until she sped it up in her mind that she recognized it.
Maybe he speaks in tunes? Worth a shot anyways.
Lynn pursed her lips and stepped forwards a bit, whistling a tune in return to the hob. After the first few bars of the lyrics, she stopped and nodded at him.
"Hello. We're looking for a friend of our that was kidnapped. Have you seen anybody pass through recently?"

DexterityCoco had thought about objecting, about demanding she take point, but it had been Ramona that had spotted the trail, so it was entirely logical that she should be the one to lead the way. Besides, it was a serviceable strategy, setting Ramona up as the most dangerous, important member of the party. She did, likely, appear to be more threatening, and she could likely withstand whatever it was that attacked them first, so if the enemy did fall prey to the misconception that Ramona was the greatest threat then Coco would have a perfect opportunity to step forward and settle the whole matter. Unless, of course, they were outnumbered. Then things would become more difficult.
Alas, as the whistler finally appeared, being outnumbered didn't appear to be on the list of pressing concerns.
"A large woman, with a large mouth, and spectacles," Coco supplied, before demanding, "now, be quick about your answer or make way."

An eyebrow quirked at the dwarf-like Hob in front of him. The staff was clearly brandished but was also not being smashed against his companions. For that reason Milo waited and watched the Hob and their surroundings. He only vaguely recognized the Hob's tune, and certainly didn't recognize Lynn's, so he watched for signs of trouble and trusted his companions to get the answers they needed.

Very little is exactly as it seems in the Hedge. When the hobgoblin is revealed, Ramona does not relax or seem put at ease. She continues to wait, patiently. To keep her senses open. To look and listen and feel for anything amiss. Danger, in front of them or anywhere around. She lets the others attempt communication. So far the creature had only whistled. Wouldn't it be silly if they had to whistle back?
