And sometimes that means getting Nothing isn't bad. Or maybe Barton got it. If only there was a way to manipulate sound, yo, and Hear Things. If. Only. A missed opportunity isn't a total loss. It's a learning experience. Next time.

That's Hollywood. True story. Ever listen to police scanner? It's mostly cops checking in and calling tow trucks.
"I'm pretty stoked, though? I mean, it's better than covering that Tomato Taste Off. I got all the, you know, 'human interest'," finger quotes, "Stuff for a while." Insert awkward pause. "I mean... you know. I don't want to make it sound like it's super great that Bad Things are happening, just... " A wry grin and a shrug was offered. "Tomatoes."
Eating events? They're the traffic ticket quotas of news coverage.
"Ummm." Eyes flickered past Just Barton. "I hate to ask the obvious? Please tell me It didn't happen again."

People, maybe they saw something? Maybe. First that alley though. Any traces left could be useful to the Guardians. Hopefully who or whatever is doing this has left. This many people...that'd be bad...and dangerous.
Barton thanks his lucky stars that he's in Sacramento. Once, he might have been in LA. But, the cops in LA get hounded by TMZ agents as much as they hound celebrities. You get rank and they are immediately offering you a little something to tip them off to this and that.

Barton glances backwards towards the alleyway, “Yeah. This time, a Jane Doe. Prostitute, probably.” What does a suburban couple have in common with a prostitute? “This time though, we gotta contend with a couple of activists.”
At that, he pauses, shouting towards a Pastor and his congregation who are quietly praying. “Please stay clear of the evidence tape, ladies and gentlemen!”
Back to Star, “So, yeah. Pretty much the same. Got called in anonymously this morning.”
July notices a lot of things of interest: activists who distrust the police, the body and the CSI truck, Molina staring at the crime-scene as though it would tell him anything. While Arthur doesn't find anything of note.
However, people notice Arthur looking rather intently at the alleyway.
A white-guy in a predominantly black-neighborhood? Of course he'll be watched for anything suspicious. And the way he is looking at that murder scene, is mighty suspicious.
Noticing the distrustful protesters July headed over, making sure to keep Arthur in his sights. If he remembered anything from his days as a cop it was that the community always had opinions or insights into a case, though it was debatable how useful all the information could be.
Upon reaching them he casually walked up to one and asked, "What happened. Why are you protesting?"

Arthur takes in a breath before calling to the other police officer named by the Guardians. "Excuse me Officer Molina?" Speaking clearly Arthur makes sure he is heard by those close by. Because why not. Time to act.

Forget the activists. Activists gonna... activate? Whatever.
"I thought the last one, you guys figured the, uh, perp," That's right. Drop that word like a pro. All pro now. "That the perp had cased the premises? If the victim was a hooker at someone else's house, that's a little off, right? Unless... unless she was a regular?"
There are always patterns. There have to be, if the point of origin is the same. No matter how random or not-linked a person may try to make something, they're always limited. By themselves. Pick a name from a phone book at random? Where'd the phone book come from? Was it opened with the right hand or left? Patterns.
Brows furrowed, and bluish eyes flickered past Barton. Don't ask. The first time, ask. The next time, wait for an invitation -- but establish interest.
"Of course the phone call was, ummmm. Like, there weren't any clues there?"
Molina's eyes lift ever so slowly, regarding Arthur icily. Thankfully, there's nothing truly initiating in the stare; just a sense of annoyance. He's still hunched over, with his hands in his pockets. The detective's badge sits on his hip and his tie is askew. Molina looks as though he hasn't slept in a few nights. Detective Molina is the poster child for obsessive.
He waits for Arthur to continue.
Some of the protesters sneer in derision at July, writing him off immediately after seeing him. The one he asks, especially just looks at the man and walks off. The Reverend nearby states, “We're protesting the violence in our streets.”
Barton however shrugs and glances back over there, “Right now the only thing we've found linking the two are similar scrawls in the victim's blood on the walls of the alleyway where she was murdered. We're trying to identify the Jane Doe right now and confirm her identification before we try to find how further they could be linked. But yeah. How can an upper-middle-class couple be connected to a prostitute?”
That's the million dollar question.
July's eyebrow raised as some of the protesters walked away. Not out of surprise really, he knew that he looked exactly like what a cop would look like, and that put some people off. Turning to the Reverend he asked, "did anyone see anything? Maybe before the police got here?" He tried not to sound like a cop for one moment, but he probably sounded just like a detective asking questions.

Do all detectives become Arrows or Guardians when they Awaken? Something to ask around about later. Officer Molina needs a drink then a good bed, a really good bed.
"Is there any chance this incident is related to the businesses nearby? I'd like to raise this area up instead of letting it fall." Brutal murder as an incident? Easy to pretend when you grew up around people who couldn't care less about the downtrodden.
