(FOS 2015) Sign Up for Capture the Flag

[Marcus Evan]

Standing not too far from the carving station, Marcus holds a clipboard in one hand and a cup of toothpicks in the other. Anyone that looks closely will see that the toothpicks are the fancy restaurant ones that have different colored frills of cellophane on one end. They might also notice similarly colored handkerchiefs sticking out of the elemental's back pocket. The summer courtier will explain the rules to everyone as they sign up and answer any questions they might have. However, he also lets them know that they have plenty of time to grab another drink or a bite to eat before he calls the teams together to start the game.

Capture the Flag
Unlike most games of CtF, each team will not have their own "territory", but will hide an opposing teams flag anywhere within the hollow. The object of the game is to find your team's flag and throw it into the fire pit. The first team to succeed wins. There are no rules forbidding the use of any contracts or tokens, however a pledge must be sworn by all players that they will not intentionally cause serious bodily harm to any of their opponents. That being said, a few scrapes and bruises should probably be expected.

Teams will be selected once I have a final count of all participants, so please sign up ASAP. You can always just pop in to sign your character up in this scene and then go back to continue your conversation in another one before the game starts. Sign ups will end on Sunday so I can start the game on Monday. Just to give you an idea of what you will be signing up for... Once the game starts, hiding a flag will be accomplished with teamwork rolls of Intelligence + Larceny or Stealth. The number of successes will determine the target number for the opposing team finding its flag with teamwork rolls of Wits + Investigation or Survival. After that, your team will need to choose someone to sneak(Dexterity + Stealth) or race(Stamina + Athletics) back to the fire pit. Each player will be required to swear a pledge not to cause Lethal damage and to forfeit 1 Glamour to the winners. Bashing damage is allowed. In addition to the Glamour gained from the pledge, there will also be an additional IC benefit which will be revealed at the end of the scene.

As Tally walks up to the spot where the clipboard is, she nods her head in greeting to Marcus before she adds her name to the list. She's fairly excited about this and can't wait for the game to begin.

Once she is done with the clipboard, she steps away for others to sign up. She sticks close as she is certain that Marcus will explain things once the game is about to begin.

Ramona joins Tally, walking over to Marcus next to the carving station. She takes a long pull from her beer, then signs up for capture the flag. The Summer court is so small right now, there's kind of an obligation. Feast of Strength, showing off, etc.

Rostam follows Ramona to the table and signs his name on the sheet.

Here goes nothing...

[Coco]

Eagerly, Coco pranced over to Marcus to sign up, the call of glory sounding faintly in her ears, suppressing the voices of doubt and melancholy once more. This would be a game that she would win, and win easily, at that! Finally, her chance to show her true worth had come!

The Pledge would be easily, and gladly, sworn.

[Nathan Griffin]

He walked up to the station, looking as if he was having trouble controlling his exhilaration. As he signed his tongue flickered through his lips, so quick it was almost invisible. There was no mistaking his golden eyes, though, or that sharp wide smile across his face. The Beast was hungry.

[Gregory]

Gregory too joins the crowd around the station to add his mark to the sign-up sheet. He wonders with some excitement which team he might be put on and how his skills will be put to the test. He agrees to pledge not to harm others and to grant his Glamour to the winners. Already stretched for the supernatural energies by his Hedge deal, he can only hope that his team will win the pot.

Rick makes his way over to add his own name to the sign-up sheet. And, through sheer force of habit, finds himself turning the pledge over in his head for a second or two to analyze it. It was more reflex than anything, really, he'd trust Marcus with his life any day after all. And after agreeing to it he moves a short way off to do a few light stretches while waiting.

A certain ex-personal trainer had certainly impressed the importance of them on him.

[Milo Chernobog]

Milo silently made his way over to the sign up station. He was curious how the game would go, and like last spring figured participation was the best way to find out.

Marcus holds a fistful of the fancy toothpicks with the colored ends hidden within his hand. As each player swears the pledge, he tells them to pull one of the picks out of his grasp. Those who draw the same colors will be teammates and will need to quickly decide who will lead each team's attempt to hide an opposing team's flag. Tally, Coco, and Milo all draw yellow toothpicks, while Ramona, Rostam, and Rick each pull blue ones. Nathan and Gregory both choose red picks, which matches the last one left in Marcus' hand.

"Alright! It looks like we have our three teams. Each group will have thirty minutes to hide another team's flag. Any team taking longer than that will be penalized with a later start time. Once the flags are hidden, we will all meet back at the fire pit and wait for the signal to start looking for them. Once you find your team's flag, you have to make it back to the pit and throw it into the fire. If another team notices you heading back to the fire pit, they are allowed to try and stop you with any means at their disposal... within reason. This is all in good fun, so no need to break any bones, alright?"

Marcus looks around to make sure everyone understands the game before handing out the flags.

"Right, then. Let's get started!"

What do we do now?

After a brief bit of meet and greet, each team member may make up to 3 rolls for an Extended attempt to hide the flag using either Intelligence+Larceny or Intelligence+Stealth. Normal Teamwork rules apply, so be sure all assistants roll their dice pools before the primary actor.
