So he now had a pack. He hadn't expected to leave the Tur that night an Alpha but wasn't surprised that he had. Nevertheless it brought new responsibilities that he hadn't anticipated and now he would have to be more organised than ever.

It was late night at the dog park and Chuck squatted down, his laptop balanced precariously on top of his backpack, as he checked on a few things. No interesting news articles had come up since he'd left the hotel and the stock ticker showed nothing unusual. He glanced at the time in the corner. The others should begin arriving soon.

    For Odentin

Aryana approached the park, still mulling over her new position. She, unlike Chuck, had hoped to leave the park an Alpha. Especially after her conversation with Skull-splitter. Instead, she had left a Beta, a second in command. That alone didn't bother her much; she was fine with playing second fiddle to a stronger leader. What did bother her was that Chuck might not be a stronger leader. He had acted the part, last time. But it might not be the same a second time.

The Beta nodded at the Alpha when she reached him. She was wearing her Dedicated clothes today - you never knew when she might have to shift, and she didn't have any clothing stashes dropped around town - a combat jacket, jeans, boots, a black t-shirt. Even if people hadn't know she was Uratha, they would have seen it written across her everything: she was ready for a fight.

The twilight clouds swirled in their own particular way, and Jacqueline found herself laying in the slightly damp grass, hair strewn about haphazardly, sketching the skyscape. With a small collection of charcoal pencils, her handy sketchbook, and a miniature flashlight poised to reflect perfectly on her surface. With an air of absolute calm, the artist scanned the bulges and swirls of nocturnal cumulus and imagined that behind every patch of cloud lurked yet another spirit. After all, they lived in living and unliving things, represented esoteric concepts. There could be hundreds in the sky and one might not know it. So in her drawing a thousand eyes were hidden in the folds and spirals of a starless night.

    You're late...

    Whatever... Gimme another five minutes

Good example for your pack. Showing up late to the first meeting

Fine, fine... What are you, my mom?

In a bit of morbid realization, she did not know if her mother was still around... She had not seen the woman in three years. She couldn't bear it honestly. She was no longer the little girl anymore. The curse bore on her as much as anyone.

This is no time to be sad! You're supposed to be inspiring! How dare you wallow in sadness! Buck up!

Rising from her comfortable patch of grass, she began to ran in the direction of the meeting place, some quarter mile away along the dog park. She was getting better at running, especially compared to her last big run, but was hardly an expert. Sauntering in on a meeting between the Alpha and Beta, she grinned sheepishly, "Sorry, about that, lost track of time watching the clouds. I didn't miss much, did I?"

Simon was almost right behind chuck and sat down next to him. "Never thought it would'ave be this quick to get a pack of this size together." he had been worrying that they would have to scrounge for unbound werewolves to pad our their pack. Still, he hoped that they would at least manage to band together without to much problems. They didn't need to like each other, just be able to work with each other.

    the rest of the pack arrived then. He raised an eyebrow at the fact that aryanna was dressed like she was going for war while this was just a normal discussion with the pack. But each uratha had it's own quirks he guessed;
"Nah, you haven't missed anything." He reassured jacqueline.

He then just waited for the alpha to start talking

As the others appproached Chuck quickly closed his laptop and slid it into his back pack. It was time. Aryana looked more fierce than before and he wonderd briefly if she would challenge his leadership again. It was one thing to secure the Alpha position, it was entirely another to maintain it. He knew she would be watching him for any sign of weakness but resolved not to let that distract him from his duty.

Simon he knew well enough to be relaxed around and while Jacqueline's ever joyous outlook was endearing the wolf side of him was impaitient to see what benefit an artist would be to his pack.

"Welcome." He said pleasantly, smiling at each of them with a small amount of pride in the Uratha he had managed to assemble. "We have much to discuss. Firstly how shall we be known to the other packs? My suggestion would be something along the lines of 'Twilight Arbiter'. Jacqueline, you seem the creative type, take suggestions from everyone after the meeting and come up with something appropriate. Secondly I'd like to know what skills and abilities we have at our disposal and those you might think we are lacking. Remember this is my pack but it's also your pack, and you will only get out as much as you are willing to put in." He said looking around at those gathered and pausing to give them a chance to react before he continued.

A name? Aryana had a few ideas for names, but she'd throw that in afterwards. When Jacqui - apparently the name-decider - asked. Looking around, she noticed she was the only one ready for a fight. It didn't surprise her, what with her being the only combat expert present, but she'd probably have to talk to them about Dedicating a set of tough clothes to walk around in. It was always good to wear something like that. Hell, she might get herself a thicker coat to wear, just in case.

Looking at Chuck and squatting down, she nodded. "You know where my talents lie. The majority, anyway. I can fight. I can do some first aid, and I can probably jury-rig some quick pieces. I'm not exactly bad in a social situation, despite what you might have seen. I was practicing to be an Alpha, you know." She gave him a grin, with just an edge of possible threat. Or maybe they would just see that because she was a wolf. Who knew?

How curious. Jacqueline wasn't expecting to be assigned to design a name. No doubt the Twilight Arbiters had an intriguing ring to it, but seemed passive. Would watching the Shadow be enough? Looking between the current four of them, she could not be certain if they could lay a smackdown on either the pure or spirits. Perhaps that was just speaking from personal experience, as combat was not Jacqueline's forte. No, her specialty was talking to people, convincing them to see her point of view and impressing them into working alongside her. She wasn't dumb, but her intellect was focused in learning as much about spirits as she could and... Well. drawing them. Guarding the Gauntlet seemed more important than anything, since some spirits should remain in the Hisil. Hrm... Guarding.

Walking up towards Aryana and Will, the artist was all smiles and cheer this evening, requesting, "I had an idea for a name, but I'd rather hear yours first, if you have one. As for my qualities..." She taps her chin in contemplation, "I spent most of my time studying art and learning as much as I could about spirits, so I understand a great deal about the occult in general. You all may know I paint and draw for a living, but I'm fairly capable with my hands in general. I like to think I'm good with ritual magic, but I am still only an apprentice in the craft and must seek a ritemaster to learn under before I can truly grow. Otherwise, I can convince people fairly well? Every time I say that, it sounds so haughty." Folding her hands over her heart, she nods to the group, "I have also received basic training with firearms and Urshul Combat, but I am far from an expert. I generally prefer to fight from a distance anyway."

"Still, I'd prefer to solve things without resorting to violence, but I realize that the Pure cannot be reasoned with. I worry about what will happen then."

Let the artist come up with the name for the pack, sounded good to simon. He was pretty sure if they let him name the pack they would be confused for iron masters for as long as they existed. Though that might be a fun way to mess with people's heads.

He silently listened as the others where stating their good points and abilities. So muscle and a ritemaster and occultist. that could be handy to compliment his own scientific queries into the shadow and spirit world. About aryanna though, he didn't like it how she was threatening his friends on every single turn. He wasn't even alpha for a day and already she was making motions to go and gnaw on his throat. Didn't he even get a moment of him acting like an alpha without her looking over his shoulder eager to tear him down for a perceived weakness? she was ready to judge on a snap decision without knowing the facts. He didn't like it.

"So about me then. I'm a former chemistry mayor. A scientist and academic. Going to make sure to apply both of those skill sets to the world beyond the gauntlet. " He stated that with a bit of pride. Even though he didn't manage to complete his studies he still had a wealth of experience and knowledge in those crafts.
"I'm also fairly knowledgeable about the occult and the irraka boneshadows at our previous place made sure that I wasn't incapable of surviving in the wilds or the shadow. Just like jacqueline I'm not really much of a fighter, I know how to fight with claw and bare fists, or how to use a knife. But I prefer not fighting in the first place. Or if we have to make sure the other ones are down before they know what happened." He might sound like a bit of a coward or opportunist here. But who cared about how dishonorable the methods were if the results were good? Not simon.

he then looked towards chuck. "All of us went, now it's your turn."

Chuck listened intently to each of them and nodded at Simon as he prompted him. He looked around at his ensemble again. "Jury-rigging Aryana? Weapons? Equipment? That sort of thing?" He wondered what sort of thing she was doing to practice being an Alpha then considered that he should probably work on his physical prowess if he wanted to retain his position and that her comment did hold some validity after all.

He looked at Jacqueline, "As he has said, Simon and I have also spent much of our time studying spirits. I come from a business background with some political influences and have found some success in the herd's way of doing business when brokering deals with the spirits. Strategy and tactics are where I see my strengths and when we discuss how we are going to handle combat Aryana, I hope your practical experience will be able to guide our tactics. The rest of you will need to come to terms with the fact that we will all need to be ready to fight." He looked between Jacqueline and Simon seriously hoping they realized how vulnerable their pack was.

His gaze rested on Jacqueline and took on a condescending expression. "I can convince people fairly well?" he said mimicking her words and emphasizing the inflection at the end that made it sound like a question. He raised an eyebrow "Convince me. Please." he said genuinely. "Convince me why fighting from a distance is better, when it has been proven that an attacker can cover 20 feet in the same time it takes you to draw your firearm and discharge it." he challenged the meek young girl.

Jacqueline's stomach fell to the floor at the challenge. The recent admission from Simon of his own general lack of combat only confirmed that this pack was not as offensive as she would desire. While this could be interpreted as a good thing, not rushing into battle like a blood-hungry Rahu, but still the pure were a threat and in terms of offensive, there was nothing like a good set of claws. Clearly she had not shown enough confidence, for Chuck was now challenging her authority, or perhaps lack thereof, in the combat venue. Stupid, stupid! Stop being so hesitant

She wasn't aware of the proof of a melee combatant's superiority, but it made logical sense. A moderately swift fellow with a knife can overtake a gunman in a second or two and drawing a weapon takes about that much time, so within a proper window, the knife-wielder has the advantage. There are always a lot of factors to consider, but those were merely periphery, something important to note, but the importance was to defend the point of the mind over the body, of intellect and pre-planning above a mindless attack.

Drawing herself up to full height, Jacqueline's eyes grew determined as she responded, "An attacker in a charge has all their time and energy invested in this attack, a single strike, whether it be by knife, klaive, or claw. The defender has many options to use depending on the situation. A tactical withdrawl while drawing your firearm allows for key extra seconds to draw and discharge. Additionally, the defender has the option of cover to move around to slow an attacker's momentum. Additionally, there are many maneuvers that have been developed to deflect blows with an open hand and allow enough time to fire into center mass." Letting out a breath, her mind was abuzz with the adrenaline of thought, the golden moments where she had to defend herself that moved like quicksilver along her tongue. The defiance of personality was making itself shown and while she wasn't aggressive, there was an aura of confidence in everything she said.

"But most importantly, in this world where a Gauru can rip your arm off with a single swipe, it's important for the firearms specialist to fight intelligently and be prepared at all times. We are bound by the law, but in a situation where Pure are lurking and we must go on the offensive, the intelligent must set the stage of combat. Using ones environment with natural and artificial traps as well as creating ways to inconvenience a furious attacker. The front lines of the pure are zealous fighters, blinded by hate. We have the advantage of our minds. Also, we have each other, a pack who can overwhelm greater foes with teamwork. We cannot create a hypothetical without the pack. None of us are so foolish to fight the pure alone."

Letting that last note simmer, Jacqueline felt that her rationale was justified and she made a good case and while the world of werewolves was an even more dangerous world than the world of knife-nuts, there were always ways to overcome a superior foe. "One more thing... Aegis of the Gauntlet should be our pack name. Many of our members work with the spirits and when they impede on the Gurihal, everyone can be in danger. While some of us may not be in the mindset of being defenders, I find it more appropriate than aggressors."
