(Herald) Meeting With Pryde

[Zodiac]

She sat in her office as she awaited the newcomer, typing away rather casually at her computer as she worked on a little bit of absent research, practicing a little code-breaking here and there. The office itself wasn't particularly fancy - in fact it seemed almost sparce - containing a desk, three chairs (one of which she occupied) and a filing cabinet. There was an almost musty smell about the room, though it wouldn't take much to determine why. Old scrolls were the decoration in the room, as well as a couple of artifacts that sat atop the filing cabinet and desk, clearly being quite carefully preserved, as though done by a professional.

Aside from the few decorations and the monitor, a landline, pen, notepad and cellphone sat atop the desk, along with a very generic looking lamp, which illuminated the keyboard that Zodiac worked with.

Not one to show up unprepared, even if it was just a meeting to get Recognized in the most basic manner and ensure that the Consilium knew of her at the very least, Pryde reflexively wove into her eyes the filter of Fate, bringing into her vision frosted strings connecting various obvious and not-so-obvious objects and people in a web not unlike those seen in police procedurals of either murder boards in the precinct or conspiracy boards by culprits. Then, she entered the building, found the office she was looking for (having arranged it with the woman at the phone number that was split between two literally riddled locations), and knocked on the door.

Has the cat found the rat, then? Pryde ponders, dressed in a somewhat baggy, denim-vested, rolled-up long-plaid-sleeved blouse, almost matching blue jeans, and some black flats for comfort as she waits to be let in.

"Come in," she greeted from her seat, continuing to work for a moment before saving it and adjusting comfortably in her seat. She was pleased. She was pleased that she'd finally been able to riddle a newcomer, and more that the newcomer had accomplished the task. But the riddle wasn't fully resolved, yet. There was still one last riddle to sort out.

And so, with dark hair down around her face, and a charcoal suit jacket, with the whites of the shirt beneath just peeking out, sat one of the Heralds of Sacramento, awaiting the newcomer.

Welp, here we go~, the young woman thinks as she takes a breath, exhales, and enters the office space.

"Uh, hi!" Pryde says as she peeks then slides into the room, closing the door behind her without turning away. She glances at the woman (Hmmm, maybe a bit underdressed to give a first impression... Eff it!), then looks around the office to try to get a good idea of this Herald's personality.

The Enchantress meanders slowly across the room as she looks, taking a leisurely route to get to a chair as she asks casually, "Sooooo... What all does a girl got to do to get herself Recognized around here, hm?" Best not to give a name yet, need to ensure that we both don't Sleep and are part of the Pentacle...

"Well, I would imagine that identifying themselves would assist," she began absently, "it's hard to Recognize someone you've never met when you don't even have a name. Of course, they may also have a little challenge to resolve," Zodiac added with a pleasant enough smile. "Please, make yourself comfortable."

The woman was prompt, at the very least, which she appreciated. And careful, which was also an asset. Light blue eyes carefully scanned the woman, pulling pieces of information from her in much the same way the other pulled information from the room, though she had her Attainment to aid her. Casual for a meeting, suggesting either comfort or a lack of preparedness - her speech indicated that it wasn't the former, or that she simply wasn't used to being around people. Not taking a seat or directly approaching the chair hinted at either caution or some kind of fear... or, perhaps, anxiousness?

Anxiousness would, of course, account for her speech pattern and the meandering... how best to put her at ease? "Are you a fan of old things?" she inquired, gesturing to the scroll nearest the newcomer. "I found that whilst on a dig in Europe. It's barely decipherable anymore, but it's one of the first things I was ever able to restore. Too small to be placed in a museum..." Perhaps genial conversation?

"True, but one can never be too cautious in a new city," the Acanthus responds. "Who all's Awake, how they Awoke, what truths they believe in..."

"My truth is in the number four or five, regardless how you see history. And~," she makes real eye contact for the first time since she arrived, saying with a sparkle in her eye, "I go by Pryde."

Looking at the indicated scroll, the mystagogue continues after a pause, "For certain things, nothing is too small for a museum. I appreciate old things as there are plenty of truths to be learned from even the most studied of things. However, I'm also particularly fond of electronics and other modern innovations."

[Zodiac]

"I assure you, this in particular was too small for a museum," she responded with a shake of her head. "But you've one last riddle to resolve before you gain my name..."

A little twitch of the lips was granted to the woman, and there was an entertained bit of mischief in the Herald's eyes. "You've all the information required to figure it out, though. So... what is my name, Miss Pryde?"

She was just sitting down when she was prompted to guess this woman's name. "... Huh..?" Pryde says quite eloquently... if today were Opposite Day, anyway.

She looks around this Herald's office for clues. Riddle? Name..? Old books, tiny scrolls, purportedly too small for a museum... Perhaps she's not aware that they're common places for mystagogues to meet if not also stow our goods, or else that scroll ain't magical in nature...

Focus, Alana, focus!

The Enchantress suddenly recalls that there was one other riddle, one that had nothing to do with the locations of the split phone number. Pulling it out of her purse, she re-reads it.

A light bulb goes off in the mystagogue's head. Her eyes and mouth betray a visible "oh!" before pondering, eyes sparkling, ~Wait a minute~... Horse comes after Snake in the Chinese Zodiac..! The cat must've just been a red herring to fit with rats... So that'd make her, what, 31 or 43..? Unless rat is meant to signify her Order instead of her sign...

With a smirk, Pryde asks, "Do you wish me to say it out loud, or would saying that I'm a Libra suffice to prove I know your name?"

There was a moment of delight clearly written on the Herald's face as she chuckled. "Well, of course it's important to have it said, you know." Oh she loved riddles! Riddles were such fun! And the fact that someone had solved a riddle, simple as it was? That pleased her still more. Still, it was an educated individual to pick up on the cat... at least Pryde knew what she was, then. The outcast. The outsider. Fooled by a trickster... though really it was more that she'd been riddled by the Sphinx than tricked.

Pryde's brow furrows and lips purse slightly, both for a brief moment before neutralizing themselves.

"Fine then, Zodiac," she replies, drawing out the name with a hint of annoyance.

Funnily, the main reason I phrased it the way I did originally was because I didn't want to repeat the name twice in the same post within one paragraph of the other... ^_^;
