A Tactical Briefing

It was a few minutes until the set time of seven o'clock that night, Asp found when she checked her cell phone's clock. The weather was clear, if cold, and winter's darkness had set in.

Asp waited in the nave of their Westminster Abbey, one leg idly bouncing as she sat on a pew and waited for everyone to arrive. She'd brought no food or drinks - instead, resting next to her on the wooden bench was her big, black purse full of tricks and fun. She had let the people who absolutely needed to be here know that that was expected of them. The rest? They could come or go as they saw fit.

The Veiled Threats and Panthera Nox were deployed against the Banishers already. That meant Asp, Avis and Mace were in the fray already. It was time now to see what the defunct Archangels and the new recruits could do. After all, there were plenty of targets needing to be assessed and eliminated in this campaign against Banisher U.

Was it a test?

Of course it was.

Two law-breakers and two rookies. All four had reasons to care, reasons to want to prove themselves to Order and Consilium - and opportunity was a-knockin'.

This scene is not mandatory for everyone. Whisper , Teeramus , Cryotic and Windmill - your characters are specifically informed that they are expected to be here as this briefing is for their assignment. The remaining Adamantine Arrow are more than welcome to attend.

Weavebreaker stepped inside with the hood pulled over her head and a backpack slung over her shoulder. She too had the proverbial bag of goodies, but they were just clothes and a bottle of excedrin . She wore dark aviators, knowing this morning when she awoke with traces of a headache that a migraine was looming around the corner. Hours later, whether from stress, allergies, or dehydration; it sucked.

Weavebreaker paused seeing Asp. Her hand drifted up to the sunglasses, sliding them up upon her head and beneath the hoodie. "Heya." She said with a nod of her head. "How are you?" With a soft shrug of her shoulder, she slowly slung the backpack down onto another pew. She tilted her head sharply to one side and then to another, trying to crack her neck in place and ease her headache. It probably wasn't the culprit, but it was an old habit of her's when her head hurt.

Striker strode into the Circle with a smile on his face. His name may have been mud to the Consillium mages, but he wouldn't be hitting the Banishers with his name now would he. He wore new denim jeans, a black polo T-shirt and new boots that hadn't had all their matt finish scuffed to oblivion yet. His multitool and knife were, as always, attached to his belt.

As he saw Asp and Weave he lifted his chin in greeting. "Howdy." he said casually as he took a seat.

A faint rumble outside announced the arrival of Level in his van. He clomped in, wearing his usual uniform of faded denim, plaid and steel-shod boots. His wig came along for the ride too, being the only thing on his person that actually suggested his real age. With him was his toolbox, which by weight alone could probaby function as an improvised club. Within lay sufficent tools to recreate the south korean action sequence of your choice, or pehaps a small stalinist interrogation. He put it down on one of the pews at the back and walked over to see who else made up the Sacramento Arrows other than Asp and Apollo. "Hey." he said to those clustered amongst the pews."I'm Level, new arrival." was aimed at the pair he hadn't met before.

Apollo walked into the room, having moved most of his stuff into the Circle's dorms. For now, probably until he found a cabal, it'd be his home for now. He'd had his pistol tucked into the back of his pants and shirt tail untucked, more for the sake of security having a familiar weapon at hand than expecting to use it mid-meeting.

"Hey folks" He nodded to the other three Arrows in the room and took a seat.

"I'm good, Weave. Good to see ya."

Good. Everyone she needed was here. The others? It would have been cool to have them around and all, but ultimately, they were ancillary to this. One, two, three, four - it was a good squad. One needed a chance to prove herself; one needed a chance to dig himself out of the mud. Two were new, seeking their place in the Order of things.

"All right, everyone. Have a seat, make yourselves comfortable. Introductions around, real quick, and then I'll tell you why you're here."

She chinjutted at the blonde first.

"Meet Weavebreaker, an Obrimos and our newest Master of Prime. She's a senior Talon who knows a fuckload about Banishers, and she'll be leading the operation I'm about to brief you on and reporting to me about it and your performance."

A gesture to Striker.

"Her cabalmate, Striker of the Thyrsi. Both are with the Archangels."

Then, glancing at the two established Talons, she motioned at the two new arrivals.

"These two new fellas are Apollo and Level, Acanthus and Moros respectively."

Asp found her feet and began to pace a little bit, feeling kind of like Lieutenant Aldo Raine for a second, like she was puttin' together a special team.

"Why you four are here is for assignment. The Consilium is engaged in a war against the Banishers at Sacramento State, and the Adamantine Arrow will lead the charge here. Get yourselves acquainted with the layout of the place on your own time - there are plenty of maps available online and you'll want to know the campus. The enemy is thoroughly entrenched in all levels of this university's administration: students, fraternities, sororities, faculty and the Board of Regents. Now, the Veiled Threats recently found intelligence that suggests that the Athletics Department is training up some attack dogs for the Banishers. We need to figure out who, where, for what, and who's behind it so we can eliminate the threat."

She paused for a moment.

"That's where you four come in. So far, we haven't had any incidents of Pentacle mages getting caught. People who can spell cloak spells do, otherwise they're not running Magic except in the direst of emergencies. Secrecy is your greatest defense. So, quietly, I'd like you four to get to looking into the athletics department on the campus. We need to suss out who the bad guys are, what parts of the Department they're running, and what they've got in terms of manpower and weaponry. That'll give us what we need to organize a takedown."

She paused, looking from each to each.

"Any questions?"

Weavebreaker eyes cycled through them, before she reached down to her backpack. Unzipping it slowly, she pulled out and tossed a shirt to each of them. "March Madness..." She said with a soft roll of her shoulders.

"I can cloak your auras, as well as give you cloaked sight." Weavebreaker glanced back down to the backpack, still feeling pain behind her eyes.

Obrimos, Thyrus, Acanthus, and Moros... Weavebreaker thought about the mix and how it could work. Her eyes lifted up, looking to Asp. "When we get made, do you think it will impact the other investigations?"

"Good ta meetcha Level." Striker offerred to the new Arrow before turning back to Asp.

"So recon only? We don't do anything?" he asked. He could work with that. He'd be itching to right any wrongs he came across but he could follow orders. Besides if it was just information gathering on how many they were training it should be fine.

"What's the game plan Weave?" he asked.

Asp went about answering the questions from the established Arrows promptly.

"In short, Weave? Yes, it will. The second the Banishers figure there are Pentacle operatives running around in their back yard, they'll probably step up their defences. So, don't get caught if you can avoid it. Spell cloaks are life-savers for this. The longer we're unknown, the better."

She glanced to Striker.

"If there's a really good reason and the benefits of doing a thing outweigh the risk, then do it. If you're in doubt, look to your squad leader. She's got discretion." She gestured to the formerly blonde Obrimos. "But the primary objective is to gather the intel, because if they've got thirty mages in training there, we're going to need to bring more than just one unit of four to the game."

Apollo caught the tossed T-shirt, giving it a quick look before falling into thought. It sounded like they were still in the early part of the game, so, the longer they had to prepare, the better. Even if they were potentially out-numbered, it was still manageable.

"I've got nothing to ask." He added "But I can make sure we have luck on our side." A beat, and then he realized something. The Enchanter turned to Weavebreaker "Actually, can we cloak any of my spells? I haven't studied Prime at all, so I can't do it myself." If not, then they'd just have to rely on their mundane skills.
