The low fog only intensified the feeling of gloom that crept over the farmstead that day. Darkness fell quickly - the time was not clear to Crowley as he scrambled to his feet at the base of the farmhouse. Conditions were awful for seeing, but absolutely outstanding for sneaking. It seemed that Lady Luck was on the Acanthus's side.

Hours had passed since Miach had agreed to go with the Mage at the shop. He'd been allowed to get changed, and much time was spent waiting, but his new friend had been most polite once he had agreed to come along. A van had been taken, and after a long drive out into the hinterlands, the tires finally rumbled over the pebbles that made up the driveway to this place. The van stopped. The fatty got out. A gate was swung open, allowing them entry as the vehicle pierced the night-time gloom.

Unlike Crowley, Animus had been treated most courteously. As the Mistress led him out onto the steps of the old farmhouse, she smiled as she saw lights in the darkness.

"Ah. It seems our last has arrived. We're almost ready. Are you, Animus?"

Her friends trailed the Ubermensch and their leader like silent sentinels, looking on into the black beyond.

All right. The layout of this is three main buildings around a central sort of plaza - a barn on the east, which Crowley just exited; the farmhouse on the west, which Animus just exited; and a shed on the north. None of the three buildings can see each other easily in the fog and darkness (PER-5). Each building is about a hundred yards apart, and the square plaza makes up the middle. The driveway runs out the south end.

Crowley and Animus can easily see the light in the fog made by the headlights of the vehicle.

It seemed they were reaching their destination, and Miach's heartbeat went up a notch. Between the long wait that had allowed his imagination to picture his wildest fears, and the weather that seemed taken straight out of a horror movie, the Acanthus was afraid he'd made once again a very very bad call. What if he'd put the noose around his neck himself ?

Following the fatty's cues, the Enchanter went out the van too, and tried to get a grip on the place. "Well... we're here ?" he asked, rather lamely.

Crowley hugged the shadows, panting softly. He was perspiring still, his skin damp and clammy. As the adrenaline surge waned, so he began to feel cold. In the damp gloaming of the dark night he had barely any sense of his surroundings. He could only creep forward...

Fear, crawling over his body. The cusp approached. What decision would it bring, and what consequences?

The shaman walks tremulously forward, barely discerning the edges of large shapes in the gloom. Perhaps it was fitting, barely-discernable territory mirroring a crucial and uncertain moment.

"Whatever happens, I act of my own will."

An attempt to bolster and center himself. But even to his own mind, the words sound hollow.

"Of course," the Mistress said, eyes scanning in the fog. She smiled broadly at something off in the distance. "Ah, Jared! There you are, my friend. Have you brought a guest along?" she said to someone off in the darkness, over by the light.

Animus could see it, too. The smile? Crowley was over there, skulking, but not skulking well enough over by the barn. She'd seen him. And Miach was with the man who had driven the van.

"Yes, Mistress. A Life practitioner who very cleverly snuck into my office as a fly," he said with a chuckle. "He wanted to meet him. The Ubermensch."

As the two groups closed, Miach and Animus were face to face.

"It seems you have fans, Animus?"

Crowley could hear all of this, though he couldn't see the people just yet as he crept toward them...

The hairs in the back of Miach's head had started raising the moment he looked at the Mistress. "It is a pleasure meeting you, Madam." he said, bowing deeply toward the Serene woman, hoping to keep his head cool if he didn't look at her. Animus was here, too, and he seemed... well... his usual self, whatever that may mean. So perhaps he hadn't needed the extra hand. Presomptuous, of course.

"I... happen to know who is Animus, yes." he said, looking at the Thyrsus, and giving him a nod of his own. In the same boat, it meant. Though which boat it was exactly was beyond the Enchanter...

The Enchanter paused. The pea soup flowed around him, throwing his sense of direction. Once again he fought down a surge of panic that bubbled up within him. For the most part, he'd survived on his wits without turning to the Supernal. He could do this. Disoriented and mentally drained, he could only hang out for relief - that the group (wherever they were) passed him by.

And then he heard a familiar voice...

A nervous glance toward Miach, and a brief nod. Hardly a close friend, but more than an acquaintence. The Mistress' words were more convincing than he cared to admit, but she had been warned. He had no duty toward her. Miach, a member of the Consilium. There, duty was present. "I'd say 'Good to see you again,' but I think the location leaves a bit to be desired." The shaman attempts a lighthearted smile, but fails utterly. Difficult to attempt to be comforting when even he wasn't sure what might happen next.

The flicker of movement brings a slight headache. Whoever was out there could only be placing themselves in greater danger.

"So nice to meet you too, Miach,' the Mistress said. "Any friend of Animus is a friend of mine. You see, we were just about to show him what we do around here. There's a couple of fellows who we were about to free from the Lie --"

The silent man stepped forward and signed something to her, and she frowned. It shattered the look of serenity on her face, replacing it with something far more sinister for a moment before all was well once more.

"Ah. Well. Animus, over there in the fog is a fellow who is skulking about the property unattended. Would you please be a dear and bring him to me? Perhaps he may enjoy the ceremony, as well."

A gentle finger aimed out into the mist in the direction of Crowley.
