"That requirement would be easier to get rid of if we had a full council, especially since the person filling the last seat would be aware that they've got an expiration date on their position unless they make it a permanent change. And nothing says temporary can't become permanent, and something that's been in the first place is going to be easier to make happen than something that's never been," Avis explained in between munching on her next spear.

After she'd spoken, her right hand drifted up, trapping the toothpick between middle and ring finger, and then fell away from her mouth in Star's direction.

“A shame Idun chose not to sit with us.” The tone of his voice, however, passes judgment on the 'former' councilor. Anything he'd like to know about, however, is outside of the bounds of this particular meeting. “You have a point,” looking over to Star, “however, to many who are unaccustomed to conflict and the conflict of politics, open arguments may scare.”

“And that fear, allows others to paint the whole council in a less than flattering light. Fear,” Aquinas intones, "is not what we should associate with a council meant to protect us from the Self-Loathing, the Slavers, and the Insane. Subtly is lost on some. Strength comes from conflict and perfecting, but many are put off by the pain it takes to get there.”

Looking out towards the whole, “The fact of the matter is, these arguments should have happened when your meetings were taking place. Each of you shoulder the blame for the vehement and overwhelming rejection of specific clauses. It says to me, that none of you were looking out for your Path or the future of this Consilium. The fact that certain members took to stumping for their particular ideology further derailed this.” Eyes steadily take in the whole, “I stayed out of that meeting to allow you the chance to work on this without my meddling. Perhaps that was a mistake.”

A moment passes before he concludes, “You will go back to your paths with this Charter and Lex in hand, like I said to do in November, and you will go over this again and gain knowledge and requests from your Path. You will meet with each other, sometime in March or April and bring what your Paths have stated and fix what needs to be fixed. This Charter and Lex will go into effect, no matter what, in April's formal Consilium, warts and all. No one expects perfection, perfection comes in the Crucible of actual use.”

With this, the Hierarch rises to his feet.

“I will have a Herald spread this news to the Thyrsus Path.”

With that final word, the Hierarch makes his way from the chamber.

Less than flattering light?

Welp. Hands came to rest on the table, a silent answer to a manus-mitted message. Words had once carried the messages between them, words of crucibles. Sometimes you find crucibles in the weirdest places.

"Dude, I'm starving." True story. "Was there food? Did anyone see food? Um. Anyway." Hands pushed off, and limbs straightened. "They, uh, you know. Probably left? In Zoey's car. So, like..." A thumb spear, inclusive gesture, and questioning splay of fingers danced out the words to Avis . Because ready if she was.

"Ummm. Nous? Mace?" A tentative wave fluttered at the other two women in farewell.

What happens on the Council stays on the Council, right?

A shrug was given, but not much else for some minutes, Avis simply sitting and chewing on her toothpick. Eventually, she reached some decision, perhaps just that it was best to shelve what was in her mind for meditation later, and stood up from the table.

"We can stop somewhere on the way home," she said to Star, then turned and walked out of the building.

Avis exits the scene.

Mace sat there seething for a moment. Nothing had gone well, and the whole situation was getting to her. But the Hierarch was right. They needed to fix this. If nothing else, she couldn't step down until they did. I'm trapped here. It was the thing she'd feared when she first stepped up. The thing that nobody could have prepared her for. Except maybe Animus. He'd said no for a reason.

All that was besides the point. She sat there, waiting until the others cleared out, and her temper had cooled just a little bit. Enough, anyway, that she could make her way home without destroying anything anybody would miss.
