    Crowley started to laugh.

"This Herald is a Free Councillor..." He coughed and straightened in his seat. "Unless someone wants to take that too? Looky maybe this point is getting a little hot. Why not park it to one side and move on. I'm sure the Council. Or whatever... can work this out some other time. I think we have other pressing business to deal with, as a Charter, before the night is through?"

    Mace

Anger welled in Mace. This was getting so far out of hand that she couldn't keep her toungue or not. Despite her intentions to not add to the fight at hand, it was clear that these two were going to have this fight here and now. And that was not okay. "Both of you, Stop," she said to them. "This is not the time." Fists balled at her side. "There is no order in this room because there is no order at this table. Whatever our views on the document are, it's clear that they," She indicated the members, their constituents, "Are not happy. We will address that. After this meeting is concluded."

She turned to Asp. "Unfortunately, you're wrong as well. Your actions were not governed under the old Lex. This incident happened after Telos, at the Hierarchs request I remind you, had rendered the old Lex obsolete and placed us under a provisional Lex in order to buy us time to discuss the document before us. The provisional Lex was gold laws only, and Gold law does not establish the right of the sentinel to banish a mage. The Tetragrammaton we were using to set precedent during that time places Banishment as the outcome of a trial."

She turned to Avis. "I'm sorry, but I must vote No. We need more than a bandaid for this trial. And there Will be a trial. We, the council, need to find a permanent solution to this issue before we can allow a magus to be tried without representation of his path, and that's what the current landscape is. So No. As we are currently lacking a Councilor of the Thyrsus, I'm afraid Hierarch? You'll have to break the tie."

She turned to the assemblage. "Now, I want everyone to take a deep breath, and not say anything for a moment. Herald Crowley is right, this room has gotten much too heated. Let's take a moment to remember just what 'working together civilly' means."

Striker had paused when Star spoke, soon looking unsure of himself. The guy was right, he'd had a favour at his disposal and basically threw it away. The favour was the judgement not the whole 'thinking like a guardian thing'. Maybe he'd jumped the gun on that one but he couldn't help being suspicious of someone he knew to be a good liar. He was about to say something to Star, explain himself, maybe even apologise, when Asp backed the new Obrimos councillor up and then gave Striker news he wasn't expecting. He'd come to like the stoic sumo wrestler and thought they had some camaraderie, but apparently it was more important to let Asp know first that he was leaving. Striker turned and looked at his cabal-mate with an expression of disappointment and desperation. It felt like everything was crumbling beneath the shaman. No matter where he stepped someone was there to pull the carpet out from under his feet. Deflated, he began to quietly make his way back to his seat.

Weavebreaker's idea was interesting, but Striker was too busy considering the implications of no longer being a recognised member to give it much thought. Did this mean that since before Christmas he wasn't under the 'Concillium's protection'? Which they kept touting like an insurance salesman. Damascus raised Striker's main concern; The Thyrsus weren't being allowed representation.

And then Avis surprised him. It sounded like she was actually trying to get the council organised so everyone could have a voice. He didn't care that she was doing it just so that they could put him on trial. It seemed like she was trying to make it fair for everyone. She was dammit, and he felt like a dick for accusing Star of pushing some cabal-based agenda.

He listened carefully as Nous went on about the implications of his recognition, or lack there-of and thought he was keeping up with what was going on until the pace shifted. He realised that this wasn't about him anymore. This was about something bigger. It seemed that even the councillors couldn't agree on the responsibilities of their officials or even how to run a meeting. Wasn't there supposed to be a chairman or something? He remembered back to how much squabbling there had been at his first trial. Hell. This one's gonna be worse. Jeez. I'd rather just take a penance than listen to this lot yell at each other.

And hadn't they had some meeting to talk about the Lex or the Charter or whichever document it was? That's why Idun wouldn't give him a copy of the old one dammit because it was out of date. What did they do? Just tick and flick whatever was given to them?

Mace had her own opinions and was apparently leaving the decision up to Aquinas. And according to her he wasn't 'un-recognised'. Well bloody hell which was is it? He looked to Aquinas, one of the few mages he truly respected in Sacramento, for his decision.

    Asp

    Asp waited the requested moment.

She spent it looking at Mace, wondering where the Moros had done her apprenticeship that these basic notions of Consilium authority over standing hadn't existed.

"The authority of Consilium officers are well known when it comes to standing, Mace. If they need to be further locked into place..." She shook her head. "It's the same kind of authority that allows the Council to vote to reduce or increase a another Councilor's standing, Provosts to reduce standing for breaking Favors, and Heralds to raise and lower standing...? I mean, unless the Council really means to tell us that no Consilium officer has authority in that area now...?"

She left the prompt floating. It was part of their lives. Officers had authority. Surprise!

If more was needed, it would have to come from Aquinas. Asp wasn't an expert on the history of the Pentacle.

Finally, the Hierarch stirs, “Enough.” Aquinas states just loud enough to be audible to the whole group. Maybe it is the fact that the wheat-grass shake has finally been consumed. “First, I told the whole of the Consilium to respect one another and yet, I have counted more than a few people who have spoken out of turn.” A snap of steely eyes look towards Weavebreaker, “Maga Weavebreaker .

The Hierarch shifts but doesn't leave his seat, “Secondly, while I'm sure we're not shrinking violets, Councilor Avis , respect between Councilors is paramount. Robert's Rules of Order or no,” A look to Star .

An intake of breath, “The Free Council are welcomed to Consilium Meetings because our goals align. Neither of our groups take kindly to the Slaves and Slavers.” Turning his attention to Herald Crowley, “It is in that Spirit that we exchange talent and welcome that talent between us. However,” eyes rove the audience finding Einstein , “if this is not something you would like to do, you do not have to join us at Consilium meetings and wish you well with organizing your Assemblies. This is not the place for stumping for your particular philosophy, this is a place to do.

Put your phone down, Emrys ( Xander ) .” The disappointment laden Dad voice doesn't even seem to give him due credit.

Councilor of the Acanthus ( Nous ) ,” continues Aquinas, “the Sentinel is invested with My trust with the ability to protect and serve this Consilium. Part of this power is removing the Acknowledged status from a lawbreaker. Of which Striker has apparently had done.” A tap to the manilla folder sitting on the table.

Finally, since the Thyrsus need to get their collective acts together, any trial for Striker will need to be tabled until that happens. I expect this to be done before our next formal gathering at the latest.

A pause, “This meeting is concluded. Go with the Oracles. Councilors remain.

Scene has overstayed it's welcome, time to wrap

Fair-skinned and thin, Truce does not appear to get out much, choosing instead to pursue more studious endeavors. He appears as a typical college student, wearing button up shirts, slacks, and a sports coat at times. His hair is dark brown and wavy, his eyes hazel.

Truce rises from his seat in response to the Hierarch's announcement. Since the meeting is concluded it would be rude to linger. He heads off towards the exit with a great deal on his mind. There would be a backlash to tonight's events. The Paths would gather and voice their concerns. If anything it would be a good exercise of their powers as Consilium members. Hopefully they would soon receive the promised Lex copies so they could review the laws in depth. If anything this meeting demonstrated the dynamics of their Awakened society, the many perspectives and viewpoints that conflicted, and the character of each speaker who shared their thoughts today on the floor.

With time perhaps Truce would have his own thoughts to share during the next meeting.

Damascus blinked, the point she’d been going to raise now apparently moot, and this moot apparently over. She turned to the others at her table and shrugged, then shrugged into her jacket; popping another canapé into her mouth before turning and heading towards the exit.

Gyges spends some time collecting and setting the scattered copy of the Lex and Charter he was given for the table into order. He'd seen a lot of things tonight, both expected and unexpected. Before leaving, he returns the loaned paperwork back to Avis with a nod of gratitude. He gives Star a similar nod, he doubted that many of the gathered Wise were wise enough to see that the Veiled Threats had just stopped Panthera Nox from seizing the Council.

    But Gyges was observant.
