"So Max, tell me about yourself?"I ask with a smile to my conversation partner. "Have you been in the domain long?"
I really haven't decided yet how I feel about this city, So perhaps this one can open my eyes a bit more, give me a reason to be glad I came here, besides of course the eye candy. However, there are some holes in the cities status quo, so perhaps that is something to strive for.

Max adjusts his stance ever so slightly as the woman takes his arm so that the two could walk side-by-side, giving a dry chuckle at the woman's words. "Well, if that's your thing, no need to worry. Conflicts might be private, but the resolutions are usually quite public..." For just a moment, the Mekhet's mind turned back to the Execution Court and the mess that had turned into. He begins guiding them towards the bar, turning away from the retreating group of Kindred that was following the Reeve to one of the private offices.
"Who, me?" Max asks, looking over to Angel with a slight smile on his face. "Ehh, I'm no one important; no fancy titles or positions. Just a long suffering member of the Ordo Dracul. I have been here a while though. I've had to leave from time to time to deal with different private matters; but I first arrived in the Domain... five years ago, I believe? What about you, Angel; what brings you to our fair city?"
“Made public, how interesting. I can only assume that is a way to educate the masses.” Of course in this case, I am part of the masses. But I needed very little education. I may have a gaff or two when it comes to covenant politics. But, I should be alright with the rest.
“Five years, is that a long time for this domain?” I ask innocently.
“I had been traveling for the last few years, and had heard that this domain was … stable. So i felt it would be a good place to check out, before continuing my travels. I am on, what would my sire would call, a sabbatical.”

Max raises an eyebrow at the woman's curious response. "That's... one way of looking at it, I suppose..."
He can only give a slight shrug at her question. "Relatively speaking. There are a handful of people that have been in the Domain longer than I have, but not many. Most of the city's population was destroyed shortly before I arrived; a nasty bit of work that only targeted our kind. The Domain has never really recovered since then; Sacramento has always struck me as a way point rather than a destination; we've had more Kindred pass through than have stayed."
He listens intently as Angel discusses herself, wondering if she too would move along like so many others before her. "Stability is probably the right word for it. Prince Clarke has ruled over the Domain since before I arrived; though everyone else has changed. Seneschals, Reeves, Prisci; it's been hard to keep track of who's who sometimes. But it is one of the most politically stable cities I've been in; people have seemed more interested in dealing with outside threats than jockeying for power.
Of course, that might change given the Prince's recent proclamation..." It was still a little odd for the Mekhet to have to think in political terms; the city's Clans and Covenants had always seemed willing to leave each other to their own affairs over the years. But he had seen that changing over the course of the last few months, and Max wondered if he was getting in over his head now that he had decided to take a more active part in what was to come.
"It sounds as if Sacramento might only be a short-term residency for you as well, Angel. Do you have an destination in mind, or are you just seeing the world before your "sabbatical" comes to an end?"
I listen to this newly found elder of the domain. He certainly has interesting stories to tell. I raise my eyebrow as he says the kindred pass through. “It doesn’t surprise me to much that kindred pass through. Those who cannot find a place, do seem to move on. At least so I have been educated. It's not like we are in a hurry after all.”
I pause, and continue to listen, taking in that bit of fact,“I know that our people have enemies, but does the domain have a good deal of external threats? If certainly hope not. If a girl can't be safe, I may be moving on sooner than I had anticipated. Would it disappoint you if I said I had planned to make this a waystation as you put it?"
I point my coal daggers into his own chocolate pools and let the look smoulder. "But to be honest, I do have appointments to keep, and places to go, but a girl has to have her experiences before she gets back to work, doesn’t she… Max” I say the word, his name, as if it drips in sin. I am not trying to seduce him, just gauge his interest, after all… a girl needs to make friends, doesn’t she? And this friend just seems to be all kinds of useful.

Max nods his head in agreement with the woman's words; it is refreshing to meet someone who could take the long view of things. "There have been some that needed a little... encouragement to continue their journeys; but the Reeve and Deputies have always done a good job of spelling things out to those who had trouble understanding Sacramento wasn't the place for them."
Clarke had even gotten into the act from time to time, but that didn't need to be mentioned in polite company...
When Angel asks about how safe the Domain is, Max can only shrug. "There have always been threats to the Domain, from within and without. There was an... unfortunate breakdown in communication recently that has allowed certain threats to fester; but I'm confident we are making rapid progress in dealing with them. There has yet to be a threat we haven't been able to overcome; so too will these problems pass." There might be a few Kindred who did not return from the missions against Khan and the Society; but that was the price that had to be paid to keep the Domain free from unwanted influences.
When the conversation turns to more personal opinions, Max can only chuckle softly. "I can't say I would be disappointed, but that's only because I've come to not take anyone's continued residence within the Domain as certain." He gives the monochrome woman a playful wink as her eyes lock onto his; the thin Mekhet remaining detached but friendly in his tone.
"But you are correct, we all have our own paths to walk through eternity; heaven knows my own travels criss-crossed the globe before I came here to Sacramento. As for myself? I'm beginning to feel the weight of my years, and there are far worse places to spend my existence than Sacramento. And who knows, even if your time here is limited, our paths may cross again some day..."
"A girl can only hope..." I say noticing that playful wink and returning it with a a bit of smoulder."Oh yes Max, you seem so old, should I get you a walker to help you out. Or would you like for me to change into my nurses dress and escort you?" More risks, let's see if he plays along. I can only imagine what my Sire would say hearing me speak like this. A proper lady I am not I guess, at least, not at the present moment...
"But in all seriousness, if you need any help with anything, feel free to give me a call." Out of my purse comes a business card, *Angel Ducard, Private Investigator* it reads. "If we become friends, I may even give you a discount..." I give him a little wink to follow it up, letting him know that I am not all business, yet...

Max continues the playful tone, giving the woman on his arm a sly look. "Nah, wheel chair; easier to run over the toes of people I don't like. Purely by accident of course..." He is about to give her another wink to let her know it was all in jest, when the woman's next sentence catches Max completely off-balance.
For a few seconds, the thin Mekhet is completely speechless; and when he does recover, all Max can do is chuckle and shake his head in amusement. "Well, it would certainly get people talking at the next Court. Depending on how you define "nurse" and "dress", of course..."
As the topic turns to more serious matters, Max reins in his joviality a little; accepting the offered business card. He looks it over for a few moments, putting it in a pants pocket after the cursory inspection is complete. The lop-sided grin quickly returns as Angel keeps the conversation light for the moment. "I will certainly keep that in mind, Angel. And I'm all for discounts; I'm sure we could arrive at a fair exchange after a little... friendly negotiation?
And should you ever need to contact me, please feel free to. I might not be anything as practical as a PI, but I like to think I have my uses..." As the two Kindred continue to walk, they slowly come into earshot of the bar. Turning his attention away from Angel for a moment, Max glances over and notices Allison and a Kindred he didn't recognize already manning the rail.
He turns his attention back to Angel, nodding towards the bar. "Shall I get you that drink and introduce you to a few more of the locals, Angel?"
Mykel, is it Allison and Cameron you want to introduce Angel too?
As my Danse partner asks for if he should facilitate further introductions, I wonder just how playful I can be. But I should probably remain at least a little practicle. After all, I am a lady."You know Max, I am enjoying our conversation as it. I met Allison at the last court, and it seems that Priscus Baldwin is joining into the conversation as well." I look into his eyes, "It seems there are two paths on this road Mr. Heinz. Join into a conversation, or keep me to yourself. Better give it some thought, it's choices like these that can alter the course of you future..." The smile on my face is slight, teasing but does not hide that I am enjoying myself. "Lead the way Mr. Heinz."
