Rooftop Lessons

[Terri Nutkins]

Night had fully descended and it was their Season. Fear of the closing nights, people hurrying along the streets with the sole intention of getting home without any trouble. Fear of the weather and whether it will change suddenly. Fear of the unknown, when things always go bump when they least expected it.

Terri couldn't help but grin as she waited on the roof of the Rose Garden, the building she once knew intimately. This was once her building until she was considered dead. Still, everything changes and Terri had suffered. Now, she was starting afresh, moving on.

Morgan would be the next step in her rehabilitation.

Wearing a pair of black running pants and a dark blue hoody, her red hair was tied into a neat bun. A well-traveled satchel was slung over her shoulder and as she waited for her fellow Beast, Terri checked that her slingshot was tucked in the waistline of her pants. She was in no way expecting trouble but this day and age, the Legate wasn't going to be caught out ever again.

The Beast hoped the shortcuts she'd taken to reach the Rose Garden would speed up her arrival. For others of Autumn, fear was a tool or a weapon to be used to their advantage. For the jittery raccoon, fear was a focus and an incentive. Her ensemble allowed her to blend in nicely with the dark alleys she traversed. Black cargo pants, sneakers, and fingerless gloves matched nicely. A long-sleeve dark red tunic can occassionally be seen beneath her mostly zipped up, well worn, riding jacket. Morgan preferred to wear it whilst doing parkour stunts for safety reasons. Her "running" backpack finished her ensemble, letting her carry some of her standard precautions with her.

Not that the raccoon expected trouble from running with the squirrel, but the small cache of supplies she often carried were just as comforting as the knives hidden up her jacket's sleeves.

She reached the Rose Garden via the back, increasing her speed from a jog to a run as she headed for the building's wall. With a jump she redirected the run from horizontal to vertical for a couple of seconds, long enough to reach the edge of the roof. Grunting, she got herself over the ledge and onto the building, plopping herself to sit on it.

Looking around, the raccoon easily spots the squirrel giving Terri a big wave hello in greeting, "Heh-hi T-terri! Heh-hope you did nada wait too long, heh. Ummm, you are looking well I t-think I should say. Ready for fun?" Morgan stood up as she asked the last question and walked over to Terri.

Terri turned as Morgan pulled herself over the ledge and smiled warmly. It was always nice to see another expert traceur at work, especially one who shared her Kith. "Thanks, Morgan. Congrats on your appointment," she added with complete and utter honesty. "It's a modest position but one that is very important. Some would argue one of the most important, but we can get to that later. Sure, fun would be good! Have you got a route already planned out?"

Morgan blinked and then looked down, blushing. She didn't think her job was that important, "Oh, um, heh-heh, t-t-thanks. Congrat-dulations t-to you too on your o-own title. Leg-leg-gate of Mists? S-sorry if wrongs. A-and n-not really clarify on my job description, heh-heh. Kinda sounded like stuffs I try to do already. Except now Autumns g-g-get a 100% dicsount instead of-of Freehold discount, heh-heh. Aaaand I answer to Ava, official likes. I...think?" She didn't sound at all certain on the last part. Clearly, she'd have to meet with Ava to get the particulars of her new title.

Ah yes, where woudl they go. The raccoon knew plenty of routes from here, both high and low roads. Morgan would prefer high, she'd talk better. "I know a few ways to go. Prefer a high road personally but i-if you want low-ground paths t-that works to. A-any end you prefer: food, shopping, theaters, caffeine?"

Hopefully Terri didn't want to do the second. Morgan was never quite sure what certain stores had until she went inside. Skylights were actually hard to look through.

Terri smiled warmly even though she always struggled with Morgan's quirkiness. She still had to slow down the sentences in her mind before replying.

"No, Legate of Mists is correct, and seeing as it's part of my job to help teach you of your job," she grinned, standing from where she crouched and checking the weight of her bag. She moved closer to Morgan.

"Before we get onto that though, let's run for a while. The high road sounds perfect. As for the destination, it doesn't really matter. Let's see where we end up!"

Morgan raised a quizzical eyebrow, not realizing part of Terri's job was making sure the newbies knew there jobs. "Thank you muchly, grateful for kind pointers afore I annoy Betony again, heh-heh. Still no-regret first time," she shrugged.

And if she didn't mind which way...Morgan tapped her index claw on her lips, head looking back and forth between two directions. She mentally flipped a coin. "Okay day Terri. Let's go-go-go that a way!" she points to the building to the lift and sprints towards it.

At the building's edge she leaps.

Terri watches as Morgan bounds off and with a big grin, the Legate leaps after her.

Yeah, why not. It's been a while!

Morgan skids at the next building and runs for the next, leaping the gap between the two with ease of regular practice.

Without a word, Terri is right behind Morgan, keeping up with her fellow Kith, arms and tail trailing behind her with each leap as she landed with a roll on the next roof top.

The next building was taller with a small gap between them. Jumping would be child's play. The effort would instead be in getting to the top of the building a good 40 feet up. Morgan opted to use her claws instead of trying a wall run.
