Mother Luna hovers overhead, her baleful gaze laid across all of creation. A subtle pulse runs through all present. The killing moon is felt by everyone, not just those touched by Luna on the day their lives changed forever. Yet the Rahu know that Luna's gaze may be wrathful but demands temperance. Why else would the Ralunim reign over Purity?

Down the road, past houses occupied by sleeping mortals sits a final house. Alone from the others, it sits further back on it's land. Trees and shrubbery form that invisible barrier between what is mine and what is yours. Not enough to completely hide the house but enough to show that the occupants would rather people don't see their home.

And the GPS indicates that house, that last house both hiding and lording over the others, as tonight's destination

This is for all wolves who want to participate in the planned assassination of the Pure Grandfather. Being tagged doesn't require you join, Purity before Dishonor is for those who don't wish to partake in Assassinations.

Aeneas has been waiting, all patient-like, for this moment. He was there when they first hunted this particular prey. He was there when the prey turned the tables. He was there when discretion was the better part of valour. Since then, the Pure had not given the Forsaken much opportunity for a second strike.

    Till now.

The Irraka slid his knife one more time and grinned wickedly. He waited in darkness, his pickup parked just off the road. He waited for the others to arrive.

He had his fangs. He had his claws. He had his old trusty knife. This Irraka thirsted for blood.

May Luna forgive us for what must be done.

Slick didn't like that it had come to this. That the Urdaga were launching a desperate hunt, with another Uratha their prey. Anyone who'd ever caught so much of a glimpse of her in the spiritscape could tell how much she strove to cling to Purity, and how successful she'd been at doing so over the years. The Ralunims' favor shown brightly, and thickly on her skin.

But the current situation could not continue. The Anshega could not be allowed to let spirits run amok amongst downtown Sacramento. Striking down the Grandfather had become the lesser of two evils.

But that didn't mean she had to like it. This fight had already seen one Anshega die at her paws. Occasionally that still haunted her dreams; she'd hear the whuff of his final exhale and the crack of his neck, see the glassy look in his eyes, and wake up swearing that she could taste his blood in her mouth still.

And now she sat hidden at the end of the road, preparing to end the life of another of the Pure.

Just because it was necessary didn't mean she had to like this. And she didn't, not one bit.

She just had to see that it was done.

May Luna forgive us for what must be done.

Firebringer skulks down the street, remaining always just outside the splashes of light thrown about by street lamps.

Herd, always clinging to their precious little candles, in fear of the darkness. The light wouldn't save them. They could never chase away what they couldn't understand.

Just like those cute little walls of trees. The occupants surely thought them a mark of ownership, a wall between "theirs" and "the other." He knew better, and had no doubt their target did as well. Your territory was that which you had the strength to defend. Anything else was up for grabs.

When he was done, the Pure would learn that they owned nothing. Not even their own flesh.

Tony was not happy about what came next. Killing another Uratha wasn't something the Iron Master was going to take lightly, but on the bright side? For the first time since the Crusaders ran away, Tony had an opportunity to reclaim what was his. Something he couldn't believe was lost so long ago but was the light at the end of his tunnel for the whole war.

As he approached the Alpha and Beta he arched an eyebrow, not at either of them but at who was missing. "Never thought I'd beat Dale out for a mission like this." An awkward smile formed as he looked around, wondering if the Rahu was just on his way and in ear shot. He didn't want to get pummeled before the mission even started.

Daniel was sure that he could speak for them all: none of the Urdaga wanted to kill Anshega. Perhaps he was deluding himself but he didn't think even Firebringer wanted that. More like he didn't care about the price they will have to pay tonight for restoring balance.

It was sad, really: Luna's children killing each other when all of them should be charged with keeping the balance. Both sides thinking the other naive and just plain wrong.

But despite all the reasons not to do it, Grandfather still had to die. And Daniel wasn't about to just let his Pack shoulder the burden alone. He would stand with them and, if they survive, pay penance to the Lunar Choirs later.

Despite what needs to be done, Luna would still see it as the murder of her child.

Dale had parked his bike a couple of blocks away, figuring that the roaring engine would alert their targets of his arrival. He opted for walking the rest of the way, dressed in his usual getup, and wearing his favorite black leather jacket. The old leather cut had been with him for quite some time, and perhaps he was a bit superstitious in regards to it, but he considered it his lucky jacket.

The Rahu walked up to the others, glancing up at Luna for a moment as he did so. "I have no clue what you are talking about," he said to Tony as he approached the group. He offered the Ithauer a quick smile, which held no ill will in it. Sure, they had their differences and likely much that still needed to be settled, but tonight they had a mission to take care of. They all had to work together to do what was necessary.

    Imru Nu Fir Imru

It was a point of heated debate amongst many of the Urdaga, but the Blood Talon knew how he felt about it. He didn't have to argue his stance to anyone, and found it unlikely that anyone would ever be able to convince him that the Anshega were to be considered The People. Regardless, this mission wasn't just about vengeance for him, it was about so much more.

"I gave my pack the option to join in if they like," he said to the others. While he hated the Pure, Dale was not about to drag the other wolves into this assassination mission unless they were comfortable with what it meant for their Harmony. He was their Alpha after all, and that didn't just mean giving them orders and dragging them along for the ride. "I don't know if they will show or not; but I am here to see this through to the end."

Marcus slipped in from the shadows between one of the houses. His usual sombre look only enhanced by the grim task ahead of them. He pushed a loose segment of his impromptu flak jacket back into place, the amateur stitching holding it together looking a little frayed. Another job for afterwards. Marcus thought, going along with the sharpening his trusty old machete was going to need. That was the problem with tool steel, against rust is was as fine as anything, but if you don't keep sharpening it may as well be a club after the first week.

Said machete lay in it's hidden sheath down his back, and in preparation of this night Marcus had given the old girl a little attention. It would have gleamed with the promise of bloodshed and dismemberment, had he not blackened the blade with boot polish before he set out. He joined the group assembling quietly. This wasn't a time for talking, not with what they were going to have to do. At least this time he conscience can be clear, can't get any more justified than a leader of the Ashenga. Luna would be angry, but they would have a much higher chance of making it through the next month. Fair trade?

That feeling, that urge of Luna's full attention on the world never really goes away. Each Uratha learns how to control it in their own way, but it's always there. Fortunately? the night is young.

All is quiet around the wolves. The air itself steady and calm.. or maybe just holding it's breath. Waiting.
