The Fallen Fair 2014

As the brisk winds of Autumn replace the warm breezes of Summer, a large tent is erected in the back yard of Edna's Boarding House. A pretty, but rather oily blightbent sits at a folding table beside the wide flaps that mark the entrance to the tent. She introduces herself as Emma, and puts her greasy iPhone down long enough to tell each attendee to close their eyes when they walk through the flaps and repeat the phrase, I reap what I sow. This odd combination must be the key to the temporarily erected hedge gate, for when each changeling follows these directions, they find themselves stepping out of the mundane world and into the expansive garden hollow of the Autumn Court. Amid the colorful flora, a large stone table in the center has been set up with a wholesome assortment of baked goods and fresh goblin fruit. At one end of the table, there is even a clear punch bowl filled with a chilled, blood red liquid. Some of the exotic plants growing within the walled hedge garden are still heavily laden with fruit, while others are already casting their multicolored leaves to the ground. Tables and chairs have been set up around the hollow, and there are even a few display tables reserved for those who have chosen to offer goods or services at the Fallen Fair. The Autumn Queen, Betony Rue Jasons, can be seen fussing with a few knitted items on one of the tables as mysterious candle flames burn in a circle around her head.

Tally arrives at the boarding house wearing a long sleeve black shirt with a logo with a cupcake in colorful print that reads under it 'Keep Calm and Eat Chocolate' plus worn blue jeans and runners. She greets Emma and goes through the instructions, entering the hollow. She walks forward, glancing around for a spot to wait for the others arrive as it seems that there's a slim selections of fellow Freehold members to speak with.

Seeing the table manned by the Autumn Queen, she decides to get a closer look at the items on display. She greets Ms Jasons in a polite and respectful manner, "Greetings, Ms Jasons. How are you this fine day?"

After greeting Emma, Krumm activated the key to the Hedge-Gate and entered. He paused upon entering, still finding some of the stranger aspects of his life as one of the lost difficult to stomach. Instantaneous travel into one of the most surreal and terrifying realms he'd ever known was certainly one of them. Krumm wore only a t-shirt and his hedge-spun pants, tattered drenched in the blood of the enemies he'd faced in the hedge. He didn't have much else in the way of wardrobe - hopefully his new job at the Forge and potential new lodging at Edna's could turn that around.

He'd not yet met either of the two lost Lost present, but the bitter wind of Autumn emanating from Betony Rue was telling, if nothing else. He approached the pair cautiously, nodding quietly at Tally in greeting and performing a respectful bow to Betony Rue.

"Good Evening. I am Krumm, a newcomer to the freehold. I was told to report to the Autumn queen upon arriving to this event. I take it that's you?"

    Description

Terri's Mask is that of a petite, cute woman with vibrant red hair that has black streaks throughout. Obviously athletic, her natural demeanour is friendly and she always tends to have a smile on her face.

Her fae mien is akin to a red squirrel. She has a long bushy tail and ear tufts that poke through her hair. The black streaks are actually black feathers the are a part of her mien now,; a part of her noble order.

Terri's powerful Mantle initiates itself as the smell of baking bread but brings with it the feeling of the Harvest, that time to take stock of the coming troubles.

Terri had been excited about the forthcoming Fallen Fair and had been working fervently on lots and lots of scarves. Sure, she had also been making some gloves and a couple of dresses, but mainly it was about the scarves.

It was a new Season, and everyone needed a new scarf for Autumn.

Unlike her Queen, Terri didn't use wool. Silk and cotton were her materials of choice. Upon arrival, she had said "Hi!" in passing to both Betony Rue and Emma before setting up her stall in the Hollows that she had contributed to, helping to make it slightly bigger than it had been, glad to be useful one again to the Leaden Mirror, as well as to the Freehold.

Today, she was dressed in something of her own design, and its was touched with the colours of her Court as her Mantle flowed around her excitedly. Spotting Tally, Terri gave a wave, as well as catching the Farwalker that had arrived, not recognising him at all but that mattered little to the Blackbird Bishop.

Its nice to see so new faces in the Freehold again.

Green appears, his huge frame filling the Hedge Gate - and yes, he still has to duck under the archway to fit. Its the beginning of Autumn and the giant elemental is taking one of the last chances to go about in his shirt sleeves; denim jeans and boots fit out the res to his ensemble. A battered looking sling bag bounces at his side. His lank hair is more dishevelled than normal, and there is a pungent odour clinging to him - he's tried to cover it up with Lynx, but it has not had much effect.

The Winter courtier has not come to sell, but to buy. Its obvious from the moment he steps into the Hollow: he's perusing the stalls as they are set out, slowly making his way to the central table where the food and drink lie. Once he gets there, Green... tries not to loom, seemingly content to pour some of the punch.

Wordlessly, he salutes the Autumn Queen.

Tony sauntered up to Edna's Boarding House and paused as he saw the tent in the backyard, green eyes taking in the sight. His heart was hammering but even the Ogre hid it well beneath a monstrous, if dapper, appearance and an uncanny ability to cover his emotions from scrutiny. Back in NYC, it had been a handy trick, one he had worked tirelessly to perfect. It was not easy being a Troll in a Court where your main weapon of choice were barbed words and manipulative tricksies.

Yet, he smirked just so, covering his nerves. Wearing dark-red pants, a matching vest and white shirt, a thin red tie set it all off perfectly. Tony was dress to impress, every finger covered in gaudy gold worth nothing but glinted just so, his weak Mantle in effect. Even his twin tusks had golden ringlets from his time in Arcadia, earned from being the monster under the bridge, and they glinted also.

Passing Emma, the Ogre gave her a dashing smile, nodding towards her phone as he held up his own. "Snap!" he joked. "Although I wouldn't dare upgrade quite yet; I have read the six's actually do snap." With a wink, Tony headed swept through the flap, muttering the phrase that allowed him through.

And stepping out, into the Hollow, Tony couldn't believe his eyes. Oh, baby.

It was a good job he brought some cash. Tony would be spending today! He thought he was early and decided to head over to get a drink before perusing the goods on display. He could feel a couple of much stronger Mantles in the area and kept clear for now, instead homing in on the giant already at the buffet, and the bubble of cold air that accompanied him.

"Good day, sir, a real pleasure to meet you," Tony grinned rakishly to Malcolm, gazing up at the mountain and offering a ring-laden hand. "Tony Shine, recently arrived and eager to introduce oneself."

The Scrivener entered the Hollow with a canvas bag on either shoulder, filled to their brims with books. Dressed in worn black jeans and pointed toed boots, a charcoal blazer with patched elbows protected her from the bite of the oncoming season. Beneath the unbuttoned blazer was a dark orange sweater, loose and chunkily knit, and her damp hair was pulled back in her customary low bun. Habitually shabby, but her posture and stride showed her to be someone that belonged where she was.

She didn't have any special acquisitions like last year, but sometimes mundane books could be almost as helpful. With a nod to Ms. Jasons' and smiles to the other familiar faces, she made her way to one of the tables and set the bags down with a sigh of relief. She unpacked them carefully, grouping them by basic genres and subjects; she had spent some time combing the lists of books she had read recently and deciding which ones seemed the most relevant to the members of the Freehold, though some of them were simply things she had found interesting.

Old cookbooks based around the properties of herbs were tucked beside books on the purported magical abilities of the same herbs, books of fairytales beside books about fairytales, the mythology of several different cultures cuddling up with modern folklore, and dog-eared books about decoding dream imagery rested fore-edge to spine with psychological breakdowns on the 'hidden language' of dreaming. On one end of the table, Ava set up a stand usually used for displaying books and placed a stiff piece of paper on it; the thin, hand-lettered block capitals advertised the possibility of beneficial Pledges. A note at the bottom of the page suggested that, if a person was interested in anything on the table, they seek out the Scrivener to make a deal.

Looking at the sign, Ava glanced around the Hollow before drawing a small, slightly comical fish beneath the note. Hopefully that would answer any questions about her identity for the newcomers. Immediately regretting that she had drawn it in pen, she stared at the fish for a moment before sighing and capping her pen.

Mask: He looks to be late teens or early twenties with blonde hair and blue eyes. He has a kind face and an understanding look. When talking with him he is always engaged, nodding and giving indications he’s listening to you. His smiles have a melancholy to them, though.
Mein: His eyes and hair turn black beneath the mask. His skin becomes paler as if drained of color, giving him the slight appearance of a marble grave statue. Two stumps with tattered black feathers grow from his shoulder blades. They can be seen pressing at the back of his shirt. The odd feather pokes through holes. Most striking though, is that he is slightly transparent in an otherworldly way. His mantle manifests as wisps of fog and mist.

Daniel thanked Emma as he entered the tent and spoke the words. It seemed an odd key. He wondered if anyone else felt like they were making a promise saying it.

He approached Betony Rue's table but hung back when he greeted the seasonal monarch so that those in front of him didn't take offence.

"Hello, Mrs. Jasons. I'd like to reswear the freehold oath when you have the time."

Morgan's ensemble for the night sported her favored jacket. The false-leather riding jacket has several lines of discoloration running diagonally on the back, a momento of a solo trip into the Hedge gone wrong. Aside from this she is sporting black khaki pants with extra pockets and a matching pair of black sneakers. Beneath the open jacket was a open blue sweater vest and a tank top. That might seem little for the chill, but given her method of getting here she had enough she felt like she needed a little cooling off. And a few deep breaths too. The final acessory was her backpack, loaded with a few things to trade in case someone felt like bartering instead of cash. After all, she still had all that stuff from the poker game that got cancelled. And some of the books she'd failed to trade off.

Though if Marcus was here, she'd avoid trading the spare dagger she'd bought from him. It'd be...awkward. Upon entering the Hollow She quickly hopped to the side, incase anyone else came through, and scanned the Hollow. She didn't spot the Metalflesh but she did see Ava. Maybe she could get rid of those game books. There were quite a few familiar faces and some new ones too. Well, new arrivals were...usually good, right?

Welp, she best stay away from them until they swore the oath if "security" was like the Symposium. The sprights might be friendly but she'd gotten on their good side. And sometimes that meant the sprights just talked way too much.

The raccoon walked up to Queen Jasons slowly, practicing a breathing excercise as she went. She stopped next to Daniel and gave a short bow, "Greetings Queen Jasons. I-I-I, ahem, am look-looking forward to repeat-swear the oath."

The calming techniques still needed some work.

    A stranger approaches.

Green isn't so guileless as to frown. Its not like he keeps tabs on all who reside in the Freehold. Instead, he grunts in a neutral manner and awkwardly salutes Bowtie with his punch. His other hand collects a tasty biscuit.

"Green," he rumbles. The Ogre has given his name, so the Elemental responds in kind. "Uh. Welcome. I guess. Ah... Glad you could make it."

He shovels the biscuit into his maw, cutting short anything else he might be forced to add. Damn its good! Grunting pleasurably, the giant Elemental gestures to the plate.
