(Invisible Hands) Encounter: Rent Veils

Rina moves quietly into the room, stepping over the upturned furniture and displaced paraphernalia that lay scattered across the floor. The man was so intent on his own search that he failed to notice the Shadow's approach. With precise speed, the Khaibit struck.

Something was wrong. Very wrong. As she draws close to her chosen victim, she feels her Beast move - just like its hackles, if it had any, were raised. The precise strike should have bought the man down. He didn't fall. Instead the blade passed through a jelly-like resistance, leaving no trace apart from a cut in his clothing: no blood, no bodily fluids. The man turned, slowly.

He was smiling.

"So you have allies, Malachai?" He spoke, more to himself than the Mekhet standing next to him.

In the other room, Thomas moved quickly while the woman thing was still poised with her stretched jaw and drooling maw. He swung: technique was rusty by with Vitae burning in his veins, the force of the blow was strong. Splatter of wine dark blood, thick and lumpy, on his fist.

The woman creature responded in kind. Roaring in an inhuman shriek, she flung herself at the Ventrue priest: a whirl of fists and teeth and unimaginable nihilistic rage. No thought was spared to self preservation. There was only unthinking destruction here.

Rina feels her Beast well up as her opponent's true nature is revealed, and, as she's momentarily distracted by her need to completely reassess the situation, it comes out in a primal snarl. After a tiny millisecond's pause in confusion, Rina decides she needs to act. Pushing her Vitae into her muscles, she takes her knife in both hands and opts for a much larger slash, going for the "if-you-hurt-them-enough-eventually-they-stop-moving" school of thought for this fight.

Thomas reels from the savage assault, slams into something hard--a wall, he sees when his vision steadies--grips the edges of a side table to keep from falling over. He shakes his head, draws on the blood to keep him on his feet.

Blood Healing

As a reflexive action, Thomas consumes 1 Vitae to heal 2 Bashing damage.

A little help? he prays. He knows he won't last long if the fight lasts much longer, sees that she'd overcommitted with her last haymaker, decides to try one of his own: in one motion, he hefts the table he'd gripped for balance right at the side of the woman's knee--if she fell, it might take her a moment to rise again . . . he'd had worse ideas, but not many.

He misses, takes it back--he hadn't had any worse ideas, at least not any that come to mind as realizes he's left himself exposed to her counterattack.

Rina moved swiftly. Another slash. A hit. Cloth tearing. The same, jelly like resistance tugging at her blow. The man didn't make a sound, smile darkening. And then he struck - controlled savagery incarnate. Only her quick wits saved her from the vicious fists.

Thomas snatches the table and swings, throwing himself off balance. The woman creature lunged again, snarling, attempting to take advantage of the Lord's stretched defences. Her screams were more effective than her wild swings.

Rina was taken by surprise by the vicious assault. Especially since he was using nothing but his fists, the impact took her completely off-guard, and once more she had to re-evaluate the worth of staying and fighting. Maybe she should run, get the other man's help with the fight...but then again he hadn't seemed particularly useful in a fight either and so wouldn't be useful as much more than a shield between her and the Other. Plus he might be having his own issues, and bringing in another person to fight wouldn't help at all. Focusing for a moment on fixing her wounds before they started becoming actually serious problems, and then focused even more on the fight.

Thomas winces as the thing pounds his exposed side. He's not sure if he hears fighting down the hall, or if his ears are ringing from the snake lady serving him his penance for being angry at God. Alright, I'm sorry, he prays. He decides to stop praying for himself, to stop making excuses, prays instead for the woman in the other room. Forget it, God, please just . . . I dragged her into this; in your mercy, get her safely out.

He's a fourth-rate beast, he acknowledges--the price of clinging so tightly to his humanity. He's fairly convinced by now that his brawn is inferior to . . . whatever she is. Thomas' will and blood pool are waning. His pride tells him there's no way his discipline will work where it had failed earlier. But faith . . . is obnoxious, relentless . . . his only hope, of getting his ass over to help that woman.

Rina attacks! Striking again and again! There is no effusion of blood. The man rocks from the blow, letting the kinetic force roll through him even as his chest is torn and gashed. His dark face twists into an angry scowl of primitive rage and he strikes with renewed vigour. His roar echoes through the house.

His body fumes: thick mist, yellow tinged, cloying scent of herbs and spice.

Around their fierce combat, the shattered laboratory is rendered into flinders!

And with that last attack leaving her reeling like that, Rina decides that this 100% absolutely, positively not the time to stand and fight, but the time to charge in the opposite direction and live to fight another day. In other words, she decides to run as fast as vampire-ily possible and go use the other man as a shield and possibly at some point help him. Who knows, she was feeling generous.

Rina spends 1 Vitae to activate Celerity (2) and run away as fast as she possibly can, back to the room they entered into.

Thank God. He doesn't know how many more poundings he could have taken. Thomas has no time to doubt, to wonder whether the snake-woman will stay.

He'd carelessly walked another into a dangerous situation, feels responsible. Is she even still alive?

He turns, hurries in the direction where he'd seen her go. He comes to a hallway, lots of side rooms, hears rapid movements, at least two sources. "I'm coming!" Though he doesn't know where to. "Where are you?"

Thomas feels a pang of worry when there's no immediate answer. Please be alive . . .

Rina explodes into action. The Blood courses through her veins, thunders in her ears; the world slows...

Broken furniture and antiquated laboratory equipment tinkle and sparkle as they move in space - upturned and dislodged during the ferocious fight. Her enemy is lunging again, comically slow, caught like an insect in the amber of time; his mighty fists ready to hammer her into submission...

...and it is so easy to duck and bound away.

Rina Yui hurls herself forward, through the gaping door. She bounces along the passageway and hurtles through the living area. She flows into the open planned space, running up the sofa, leaps, twists and turns to chew up the momentum surging within her and crashes to the ground beside Thomas Galilei.

Thomas, hurrying into the apartment's interior, catches sight of the blur as Rina streaks past... and is then beside him.

There is an almighty crash from the room the blur - Rina - came from. A howl of frustration.

For the moment, the Hooded Thief is still testing the limits of her binding to trouble the Kindred... for now.
