    Asp

Asp stood on the opposite side of the ring, her weapon held loosely in her hand. “Nice match over there against Reverb, man!” she said with an encouraging grin. “Want to prep at all? I've got an Armor and Sight up, like I mentioned earlier."

She wanted to keep things even.

Vulgar: Color drains from the immediate area and depth perception becomes temporarily skewed, everything seeming to draw in uncomfortably close, making rooms smaller and all but distant objects seem in reach.
Vice: Color drains from Avis and her facial features seem indistinct and grainy, as though her identity is growing less defined.
Virtue: Colors appear more vibrant and everything seems to become grander in scale.

Avis climbed back into the ring after her chat with the mage formerly known as Cut, looking decidedly not pumped. Not the opposite of pumped, but her features were calm, if a bit wan, as she paced out her space on the mat.

"No chance you'll drop them? We didn't use magic the last time we sparred, ya know. Well, not until we had to heal."

Asp looked around. She actually seemed a bit nervous at the concept. "I... it was different. I'm not super..."

Frown. She looked down for a moment.

Then resolved herself with a sigh.

    "If I have to."

She hated to do it at a Consilium gathering. This was where the Enemy could find them the easiest. They weren't all that safe here... but the protective armor she'd come to rely so heavily on was dropped.

For once, Asp looked uncomfortable. Still focused, still perfectly able to fight, just... not her usual self. But the Obrimos knew her Purpose. Comfort was the opposite of strife, and Existence is War. One never grew if one did not face one's fears.

"Have a great match. Shall we?"

She leveled her little sword at Avis wordlessly. A couple of seconds passed, and that look of cold, effective readiness crossed her face. When Avis was all set, she would go.

    Avis nodded
"Thanks." Avis meant it. She didn't have illusions about this affecting her ability to win, but she appreciated the gesture.

As soon as the spells dropped and Asp gave her permission to begin, Avis lunged forward, thrusting for Asp's chest. The attack incredibly obvious against an experienced combatant.

Asp leaned back and to the side, avoiding Avis's reckless thrust as it passed over her shoulder. She swung her blade up, catching the other woman in the side.

This, she could do. The feeling of a spar. It made her more comfortable, as her heart began to pound...

The thud of wood impacting her flesh and then the throb of pain that came from blunt force spread across the left side of her rib cage. Face twisting into a grimace Avis spun back towards Asp, scything her length of wood in a vicious arc.

    Asp has 2B.

As Avis's swing came biting in and hit her, Asp's usual strategy fell by the wayside. She was too uncomfortable, not in her rhythm, not willing to throw everything into just avoiding the blow. She swung with all her might at the vulnerable Mastigos --

--and grazed her. It would hurt, but it wasn't the crushing finish she had expected.

More blows were traded and Avis just continued to press her attack, trying to literally beat her opponent down.

    Asp

The huge blow coming in to knock her off her feet was enough to make Asp do what she did best.

    Move.

The Obrimos shifted her weight, snapped her blade up, and stopped Avis's attack in its tracks. That was it.

"Damn. That was one hell of a match, Avis."

    She lowered her blade.

Asp Dodges, reducing Avis's pool to the first three dice and no successes. Asp wins, 3-2.

"Always more fun when you get to see how much of it is just you," Avis returned, panting lightly. Somehow she'd managed to stay on her feet. She'd fully expected to get knocked on her ass in the first round of the match but that hadn't come to pass. It was a good match. A good defeat.

"Now all that's left is to get the champion a margarita, right?"
