Everyone goes a little mad sometimes. A momentary madness when a notion that has been lingering for a long time, suddenly crystallized into irrefutable fact. David couldn't remember when the notion slipped into his being and into his blood. But floating now beside Aileen, with his gaze on the mica spangled sky he wondered if it mattered. David simply knew he was in the grasp of a momentary madness, borne from the sudden realization of his feelings.
Submerged to his ears, the world was muffled, dulled, and a wash in the sound of water rushing into and out of his ears.
David's free hand reached up again, as though he were trying to pluck a star from the gently swaying sky. “You are an incredible woman,” the Shadow whispered to his counterpart, unsure if she had heard but no less lined with his admiration. It was something he might not have admitted otherwise, it said too much of his own feelings, and the fear of any response kept him rooted to silence. David turned his head towards Aileen, watching as her mind wandered off into the ether.
