Their eyes slowly opened the blinding light from the sun took a moment for them to adjust too. The group were standing in a playground near the eastern side of the freehold. Why …why were they here? Each of the changelings felt for a long moment confused, lost and turned around, struggling to piece together why they were standing in the bark dust. The nearby swing set, empty was still slowly coming to a halt, and there was a tune…that murmured in their ear like a dream trying to be remembered.
The Whistler.
He had come to town no more than two weeks ago, a stranger from beyond the hedge. Baring a silver pipe he made quick work in Sacramento, four children had gone missing since he had come. Rumor of him spread fast, and the local authorities were unable to track the kidnapper down, let alone were they aware he existed. However along those touched by Faerie, those who breathed the Wyrd, rumors of his deeds spread like sparks from a flame, whispers around every corner. His silver pipe could lure a child away, dazzle the minds, and create illusions. Little was known about the individual, some said he took the children to the Flesh market, others said he took them to the hedge. The Queen of Spring, Violet had made a decree that any who should hear of the Whistler or sport him was to report their findings to the freehold or do all that a was in their power to apprehend him.
It had been a hot summer day, each of them were out about town, each for their own reasons when they heard it. A distant tune of a pipe singing out into the summer air, it would of felt perfectly pleasant, a great addition to the day, but something about it made their skin crawl and they knew something was wrong. Hurrying closer to the tune the group found themselves meeting outside a small children’s play park, realizing suddenly that they had all been drawn by the same song, and heavy weight fell on them realizing the Whistler here.
what happened next they hardly could recall. Before them was a figure in the middle of the park that had a strange red cloak on, hid from mortal eyes by the wyrd, playing a silver pipe. The parents looked away from him, blind to his presence. They tried to stop him but that’s last they could recall
Now they stood in the park their minds fuzzy, glancing around they could see that three children were missing and the Whistler was gone. The clock was set if they wanted to stop him, they had to find him and fast.
