Jennifer sat in her temporary haven at the most important area of the haven - the office. She had spent some time double checking that she had unpacked all of her important computer equipment. Her file of scripts. Her expensive computer. She logged in and resisted the urge to hide her VPN. As Seneschal Villairs was in charge of the Elysian fields and had asked her to perform this check, she doubted that police action would be taken. However, she did check that her PING would redirect to her old college library in San Diego; just to be sure.

Jennifer set an alarm clock to an hour until dawn to ensure she wouldn't be caught unaware. She began her work at sunset on her second day in Sacramento, to ensure many hours to work with. The Herald - Seneschal had been kind to her and any favor for her was one Jennifer would do well. Jennifer brought up the web site for the Elysian Fields and began her ethical hacking of probing its defenses; as she had been asked to do.

Should I deduce for a sys admin watching the system?

Assuming Jennifer is moving over the public Internet (that her Haven isn't close enough for wireless/WiFi access), Avalon's public site isn't difficult to find. There are a couple of links to off-site services such as OpenTable and Yelp, and she notices that it uses an IP assigned to Comcast.

Jennifer can attempt to penetrate the site itself to see if it's actually hosted at Avalon, or at an ISP. She can also attempt to hack OpenTable or Yelp for access, or go straight into Comcast.

Any of these options will be an Extended and Contested Action: she may roll a number of rolls equal to her pool per standard Extended Acton limits -- in this case, seven rolls of seven dice. Each roll will represent an hour of effort and will be compared against the successes rolled of the sysop(s) of the defending system.
