It was all together too fitting that David saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
As he departed the screen and back into the lobby of the Movie Theater, David stuffed his hands back into his pockets. The kinship David felt with Walter also left him with a melancholy that caused him to pause by a movie-poster. Bright, neon lights and the scent of buttery popcorn filled the air. Employees buzzed about the multiple concession stands offering everything from the standard of pop and pop-corn to the trendier movie-theater fare of ice-cream, fried-chicken, and alcohol.
David found he couldn't remember ice-cream.
Though he was perfectly tangible, he was still a faceless nobody to many. A bunch of teens rushing off to see Devil's Due crashed into David. They yelled an 'excuse me' they barely registered themselves and David went over to the self-pay kiosk after recollecting himself.
The Mekhet felt slightly amused that the Kine were always looking for ways to not interact with one another. But David wasn't so amused that he went over to the woman manning the ticket-booth in silent protest.
Oscar season was upon them and David was playing catch-up. His move to Sacramento was during the height of the serious film blitz in the late fall, causing him to miss some of the more notable releases. Tonight however, was a night that David felt he could take in a double-feature; so he fed the kiosk some money and bought a ticket to Her. It would make a small dent in the list of movies David wanted to see, though August:Osage County would have to wait.
He read the play anyway.
Still early yet, David took one of the many seats in the lobby; watching the milling-crowds and rushing individuals as they went to and fro.
