The hidden back alley should provide plenty of room for what the group of Changelings was planned. The low likelihood of anyone stumbling across the location was a major benefit. The location was not easy to access, nor overlooked by windows, and lacked any signs of habitation (human or animal). If Morgan hadn't decided to slip between the rotten wood fence as a shortcut she'd never have come across it.

She supposed there were better locations for practicing with knife work. Like a basement but those weren't exactly available. So, when Thao'd suggested joint knife practice, the alley had come to mind and she told him about it. The steepscrambler knew several ways into or out of the back alley. Seeing as she was guidning others, the "easier" ground entrance was the one she chose. It was still taking time though.

This meant Morgan was leading them towards an old fence with several rotten wood planks. Morgan gave those behind her an apologetic smile at the inconvenience, "Heh, sorry for trip but I s-said it was out of the way. You'll all need to d-duck a bit going through and move the loose boards of the fence. Heh-heh, unless you want to try hopping the fence?"

Going by her own mental calculations, Morgan was pretty certain they could all fit through by moving the loose boards. While she was smaller there wasn't that much of a size difference. The Beast had a lot of wiggle room going "under" the fence anyway. Hopping it would require some atheltic skill to not make a lot of noise. Assuming the fence didn't collapse. Worry over that made its way into her voice, "B-b-but I think probably good-best to just, heh-heh, move the boards and squeeze through. Less-noise and no chance o breakin' the fence down, heh-heh. Really. Don't risk hopping the fence...Please."

Dressed in a black shortsleeve and belted jeans for ease of movement, Thao followed Morgan to her chosen knife practice spot. On his hip was the Bowie knife he had bought months back for his excursion to the Hedge, holstered and freshly cleaned.

He also carried along his backpack containing a list of notes he compiled after doing some personal research on his laptop using his apartment wifi connection to access a slurry of martial art and blade proficiency websites. It hadn't taken too long, just about two or so hours give or take. Of course, the Chirurgeon brought with him his own expertise. Certain lessons in the delirious Crooked Narrow of his Keeper's domain were not easily forgotten, even through the Arcadian fog dulling Thao's memories of his Durance.

Where t' cut, where t' stab, where t' place...the knife just so. A Doctor must know how to handle a... knife in all the myriad ways, is this not so apprendisto?

The sound of Morgan's voice snapped him back to reality. Thao's glazed eyes sprang back into focus and he ran a hand down his face as the voice of his keeper faded from his memories. "Here not there. Here not there. Mah name is Thao Dinh Ngoc, born on..." The Chirurgeon quietly muttered the mantra that had kept him from greater madness in nightmarish Faerie. After Morgan's explanation, he eyed the fence warily as he took to a knee to judge the best way to proceed from here. The Wizened took to all fours and crawled on his forearms and knees through the hole. He appreciated Morgan's ability to scout out a secluded area to practice some knife-work; he didn't much care for the trip there. "Ah'm g-glad Ah dressed light..." The boards impeding Thao's path were quickly moved away as he continued on to the selected practice area.

Once on the other side, Thao bent back upwards and stretched himself out to loosen the kinks from the crawling. Given his thin frame and the sickening interesting way his shoulders could articulate given a tiny hole, navigating the fence was no problem. "Not t-too m-much t-trouble M-morgan." He looked around the hidden alleyway in approval. No windows, shut pathway, wide enough for proper swings and thrusts. Certainly not professional, but close to ideal. "Th-thanks ag-gain fer findin' a p-place fer p-p-practicin' Morgan." Thao turned to watch for the other Changelings who may crawl under the fence.

As thin as he was, Conner had little trouble working his way through the hole in the fence, and stood up once he was clear of it, doing a bit of stretching and lowering his hood, his third eye still keeping its constant vigil. "Perfect place for knife practice." His hand passed over the knife hooked on his belt. A weapon certainly gave him some peace of mind, especially with some fellows to practice with.

Ava followed along in the brigade of people making their way toward the practice spot, stepping carefully. Dressed in what she always seemed to be wearing, black jeans and thin soled boots, she shrugged her sweater a little closer to her bony body and tucked her arms close to her sides. Her mind ticked away as they walked, trusting the people ahead not to lead her astray, but her posture betrayed a hint of anxiety.

She knew exactly nothing about how to handle a knife beyond how to prepare food without cutting herself. In her defense, not a lot of people did. ...Do they? They don't, I'm absolutely certain. Decently certain. Probably? It wasn't something she'd heard people lay claim to very often, aside from the occasional tough kid on the bus that wanted their friends to know how hardcore they were. But it would be a good thing to learn, if they'd welcome a beginner.

Really, she wouldn't mind watching, if no one was interested in teaching her from scratch; nobody wanted to get stuck with the person who brought a kitchen knife instead of a nice blade. But the tiny, almost completely faded scars that only she knew where to find prickled, her hands itching slightly as she recalled the thorns digging into them. And then, of course, the cringing memory of trying to bite through them. Nice try, there, Fish. Mostly it had just gotten her a faceful of thorny vines. But maybe if she'd had a knife, like Jack, she'd've been able to just cut them off. Problem solved, easy as.

Or maybe not; it was just as likely.

Regardless of whether or not they had been calling out to fellow Lost with prior experience, they'd gotten a raw beginner with several different sizes and types of cutlery wrapped up neatly in her bag. Prepared to be humbled but hopefully to learn, Ava wriggled her way underneath the fence and stood, brushing herself off.

Looking between Morgan and Thao, she smiled a little uncertainly, one side of her mouth curving more than the other. "I feel like I should give you guys a disclaimer - I have no idea how to use a knife, in a fight. I'm used to aiming for things that are holding still." Like steak; she was really very good at stabbing steak.

Jack took a moment to linger behind the group glancing at the path they came. The Winter Hare nose twitched for a moment, till certain they had no one following than slipped beyond the fence.

Jack wore tight jeans and a good will leather coat, and a red scarf around her neck. Once on the other side of the fence she brushed herself off before glancing to Ava and statement about knives.

"Yeah but if you can cut up someone as bad as you do your food...gives me shivers at the thought" Jack flashed a smirk before looking to the others.

    Mal was... not amused.

    BIG surprise.

The first time she had seen the offensively green graffiti, it had been an irritating curiosity. But the things had been cropping up frigging everywhere. She had no idea who this 'Dr Knock' was - but with a name like that, she suspected it was some bone-headed thug with delusions of grandeur - neither did she have any idea how he had dragged the jittery, nerve-ridden Racoon into this. But to her, it had all the hallmarks of an invitation to some sort of demented Knife War! Never mind the inherent stupidity of decorating the city with signs saying 'HEY! TIRED, PROBABLY INJURED, COMBAT INEXPERIENCED CHANGELINGS RIGHT HERE! GET 'EM WHILE THEY ARE FRESH!'

Of course, this effort could be a well intentioned attempt to improve the latter situation, but nevertheless, these idiots needed a responsible adult, stat. And Outcast to her own court or not, it would be irresponsible for a Summer Courtier to ignore such a gathering.

The small, slight hunterheart squirmed between the boards behind Jack, leaving barely a mark on her sturdy, if rough around the edges, bomber jacket.

"The first rule of fight club," she said with the sort of low, quiet growl that still carried across the alley. "Is you don't talk about fight club."

Hah. Pop culture references. She was so 'down with the kids'.

"The second rule of fight club, is what the hell were you thinking?!" she snapped, wheeling on Morgan.

Conner stepped in front of Malory, putting on a glare as he stared at her. "I'd say she was thinking to improve intercourt relations on some level and give us all an opportunity to get better at defending ourselves in this crapsack world we find ourselves living in. So back the fuck off."

"I do not know you." Mal said, coldly, entirely unimpressed by Connor's posturing. The tiny hunterheart folded her arms and glared right back at him. Her eyes flashing gold as the even the tiniest capillaries flared with the glamour stirring her mantles' glow. "You do not know me. You have a yet to be determined number of seconds before I decide jumping to conclusions and putting yourself underfoot really offends me."

She had fought damn hard, tooth and nail, for what little status she had within the community of this city. She would be damned if some jumped up little nobody was going to talk down to her like that.

"Conner Smith. Autumn." Conner's tone was just as cold as he introduced himself.

Because nothing improves court relations like telling people to fuck off.

Ava stepped quietly up to stand at Mal's shoulder as the Hunterheart spoke, her movements firm but gentle. Any anxiety she had about practicing knife fighting had transitioned into concern about tempers; she trusted most everyone in the alley to handle themselves, but of all of them she knew Conner the least. And anyone who began their relationship with Malory Grey this way was in for something of a surprise.

Her position clearly communicating her feelings on the matter, she leant a calm, friendly tone to her sweet voice. "While I agree with your understanding of the aim, Conner, Mal clearly has concerns. It would behoove us to listen, regardless of her tone."

She got it, she did: if anyone else had come in here yelling, she might be in his position. But the fact was, this was Mal; and Mal didn't usually make sounds without reason.
