In the cellar vault beneath the Avalon nightclub, far away from the press of dancing Mortals, the lights are low.
Down in the cellar vault of the Avalon, away from the sweaty press of people and the nightclubs' bright lights it is quieter.
Here a calm atmosphere prevails.
Recessed lamps cast a soft glow and the bright and rich scent of freshly made lemonade and squeezed lemons fills the air.
tiny Martha sits on one of the three comfortable looking softly furnished sofas in a family room. Seeming youthful, sweet and innocent, petite Martha sits happily and studiously. Sitting alone on a leather sofa in the Common area of the Court she's quietly and carefully looking over a paper copy of the Wall Street Journal while maps and various official looking folders from Californian State government occupy much of the space on the coffee table.
A carafe of freshly drawn chilled water and several tall glass tumblers rest on the coffee table too.
Martha is meekly and sweetly attired in an English school uniform: a black 'summer pattern' felt broad brimmed cap of the Edwardian English school fashion and of the traditional summer design...an embroidered cap badge seems to be of some heraldic crest and is matched by that of the embroidered badge on her neat black blazer. A pair of scholarly wire-framed spectacles are perched on the end of her nose.
Her long black gymslip which shows one slim leg and its kneesock to mid calf. Her ebony black hair is tied into two long neat twin tails. Each twin tail is tied with a large black silken ribbon bow. Her left leg seems to be a new style above the knee C-Leg prosthesis. A crisp white blouse is obvious where the gymslip reveals it, as is her red necktie which is tucked neatly into her gymslip. Carefully polished black Mary Jane shoes complete her neat presentation. A simple metal cane rests next to her against the sofa.
Martha is quietly and patiently reading and seeming to enjoy this moment of calm contemplation and reflection.
