The Doctor and the Monk

On the second floor of the chapterhouse if one turned left instead of right at the top of the stairs, one would walk passed the closed Meditation and Restraint rooms. You would hear the squeaking of shoes on wood floor, the giggling of chains and 'thunk' 'thunk' thunk'. The door would be slightly ajar. Inside you would see a small, old, bearded man in a black t-shirt, black sweats and black slip on shoes with a woven rosary swinging as the man moved. The little old man methodically moves through a series of body blows to a free standing punching back, dealing what would rib and and kidney shots on a person taller than the monk.

One of the biggest advantages of being dead was not sweating unless you wanted. Of course, the lack of bodily functions took time to adjust to, but once you did, it became quite comfortable. Unless you were Embraced after not getting your hair cut and shaving for three weeks and getting stoned all the while, you didn’t need to spend too much time on personal hygiene.

And you could take a shower before training, not after. Which was awesome. The feeling and smell of fresh clothes and the ability to stay clean while you trained as hard as you could… This was why he preferred to do his exercise at the Chapter House: he didn’t need to worry about the Blush and other nonsense.

Michael ascended the stairs in his dark-green wu-shu kimono and soft shoes, his hair still wet and smelling of something flowery. Perhaps this made him look like a gay Succubus, but he didn’t give a fuck. After spending half a year alternating between Torpor, blood-pumping and Gods-know-what-else, he deserved some pampering. Plus, the irony of a flower-smelling corpse dressed in fresh clothes wasn’t lost on him.

As he passes the Restraining Room he starts to hear faint sounds of exercise.

Something not flowing. Rather, hard-hitting.

Michael walks into the room where Teo is training and greets him:

“Good evening, Brother Raluca. I see that you are a monk in the truest sense of the word. Care for a spar?”

To be perfectly honest, Redfill came here to blow some steam. He is still angry at not being to resist while the hunters did what they wanted to him, and there is nothing better to calm down than beat someone up and be beat upon in an orderly fashion.

Teo turned his head and the Serpent hissed and rose up. Clenching and un-clenching his fists the Dragon tightened the Coils around the demon, making it whimper and slither back into it's cave.

Turning fully, Racula nods his head in greeting. "Supplicant Redfill, good evening." He was not entirely sure what the gangrel meant by 'a monk in the truest sense of the word' but he let it pass. No doubt the man meant it in good faith or as a complement. The man's choice of attire was somewhat odd to Racula but as he always reminded himself, so was his own to most eyes. "Of course. Please." he gestures toward the matted area before tilting the punching bag back onto its wheels and pushes it back against the far wall next to the wood kung-fu practice boards.

With a smile, Michael walks over to the mats and faces the Monk.

For once, I can indulge the desire to fight another Kindred.

If his Beast could purr, it would. The Doctor takes a stance and makes a gesture with his hand, inviting the Monk to strike first.

He eyes Teo carefully to determine his fighting experience and style.

What is Teo's style?

Where as Redfill is clearly trained grace of a martial art, Racula is definitely not. It is obvious Teo was practicing for a reason, he's not much of a fighter. Keenly aware he is up against someone such as his student Callum, the monk was torn on how exactly to defend himself. Forgoing indecision when the Gangrel gestures for him to swing, Teo approaches in a stance one would have for a futball or bar fight; something resembling boxing but not quite.

His swing is a fairly generic shot to Redfill's shoulder.

There was a very specific reason Michael didn't attack first. Sparring meant learning, and when you fight someone you don't know, you need to establish their strength, in order for it to be instructive.

Teo's attack is blocked and harmlessly redirected. There isn't much weight behind it and Michael can see that the Monk's training has so far included only the basics.

Not an Eastern martial arts monk then.

It is clear to him now that Teo probably won't be able to harm him in any serious way, so there is no reason to go all-out on him. But, perhaps, both of them can learn something.

He quickly shifts his weight to the front leg goes with a straight punch to hit Teo's torso.

There are miniature delays in the Doctor's movements, as he gives the less experienced opponent time to properly react.

The Gangrel's fist connected the Monk's side and was rewarded with a grunt and a backpedal.

And now begins my pummeling. Still what does not kill in most cases builds. And too much damage I can count on my student's anger.

Taking the hint or command, depending on how one looked on it, Racula pulled his arm up and in to better position a block to his face or upper body. He toyed with the notion of Spoiling but dismissed it almost instantly. He wasn't quite at that stage yet.

Seeing that Teo took his hint, Michael shifts his position and follows up with another straight punch: exactly the same as before.

As the punch harmlessly bounces off the Monk's defence, Michael smiles.
